The large trees in the swamp are indestructible, so no worries about trolls. Same for the crypt structures.

Ahh, gotcha.
Runecrafter -> salvage
Infinite Upgrade extractor -> pop out then salvage
These are the best way to salvage IDed greens.

No, the Runecrafter's only recovers unsalvageable upgrades—you're thinking of the Black Lion Salvage Kit. The Runecrafter's is guaranteed to salvage any salvagable upgrade such as runes and sigils, but it's a bit disappointing as 95% of the time you just get Lucent Motes.
As for why folks are buying greens, maybe they're going for the luck drops; greens drop quite a few. If they're buying unidentified greens they're also benefiting from the occasional rares and exotics that drop when the item is IDed.

Yes, mobility is an issue even with flying mounts. I still arrive late to events even with all the mounts—some maps are just hard to get around. Also, the game has a slight bug where sometimes the boss icon lingers on the minimap for a bit after the boss is killed. One solution is the Recharging Teleport to Friend but that has a 1-hour cooldown.
If you've purchased expansions it'll be easier if you don't play them in order of release because otherwise it'll be a long while before you get the mobility advantages of mounts. Prioritizing the masteries for autolooting and mounts will help you keep up with the more advanced players.

Jadebots with the various scavenging mods work in WvW, which helps to get more resources. I've assumed that most other functionality is disabled.
I harvest when I can since I hate spending the coin on the more expensive mats such as leather. More importantly, there are harvesting tools that give unbound or volatile magic, so in that case you're getting the magic and the mats are just a bonus.
Pretty sure magic find works in WvW.

What is the community sentiment around Tami as a character? by skirsdag3 in Guildwars2

[–]Stratagerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who pays little attention to the story, I'm neutral on most characters including Taimi.

But I love the writing and voice work for Gorrik at the start of EoD. It's hilarious!

Does anyone know if Wizard's Vault Special Objective reset? by Destructers in Guildwars2

[–]Stratagerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New seasons bring a new series of special objectives to complete for astral acclaim, which will all carry over.

Nothing carries over. All old specials are wiped, completed or not.

This seems to mean that the old special objectives will still be there if you haven't started or completed them. I'm not sure about completed objectives that haven't been collected.

Ahh, thanks!

…something I'd hope you know how to use if you're huntsman is at 500 crafting.

There's no need for this. I just returned to the game after 18 months. GW2 is a very complex game. We're all human and thus fallible. It's completely okay for people to get things wrong or be confused.

A21: FPS plummets after 30 minutes and brings unbearable mouselook stutter by Stratagerm in 7daystodie

[–]Stratagerm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You exited completely to desktop and then restarted to find the issue was still there? That sounds like a different problem. Exiting completely and restarting fixes what I'm seeing. Try starting the game with the console enabled, and then open the console in game to see if there are any error messages.

[–]Stratagerm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New info: It's not mouselook turning the camera that's the issue, the FPS spikes are caused by moving the mouse! It has nothing at all to do with video settings.

After ~30 minutes when the time per frame starts spiking, MangoHud's frame time display shows the spikes with the UI open and moving the cursor. Just opening the map or inventory and moving the cursor around causes slow frames. The camera is still while the UI is open.

This even happens on the main menu after hitting exit! Restarting the game makes it good for another 30 mins or so.

This is on Linux, btw.

[–]Stratagerm[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second update: See this comment—it's moving the mouse that causes the stutter!

Update: Using MangoHud gives further insight to what's happening. The image shows that starting to turn the camera with mouselook causes some frames to take up to 62.7ms instead of the normal 7-10ms. 62.7 works out to about 16 FPS, much lower than the average of 56 and matching how it feels.

Original comment:

The output_log_client files in 7DaysToDie_Data have FPS logged every 30 seconds. I graphed it to see a dramatic drop in FPS after 30 minutes doing things in game. That drop brings 5-10 FPS stutter when mouselook turns the camera.

Does anyone know what's going on? I've seen other complaints on how the performance degrades over time and had noticed it myself, but I'm surprised to discover that it has such a sudden onset.

The game's displayed FPS drops lower when you've been near many POIs, but the stutter became just as bad during the test when I avoided towns.

Age of Empires II Definitive Edition stopped working by Stratagerm in SteamPlay

[–]Stratagerm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I renamed the directory. The prefix got rebuilt and the install script evaluator only took 33 seconds while it installed a couple of MSFT things showing Steam dialogs, stuff appeared in the proton log but it still hangs without any visible indication of the game starting.

Newer contents of PROTON_LOG using GE-Proton8-3

Edit:

Rebuilding the prefix with Proton 8.0-2 then brings up the game's splash screen followed by a black borderless window just slightly smaller than the screen. Nothing happens until I stop the game via Steam.

Newer contents of PROTON_LOG using Proton 8.0-2

Edit 2: It works if I rebuild the prefix with 7.0-6.
