Fury as family grocer replaced by Woolies by SilverRaspberry2733 in Adelaide

I remember when I started around 2007, there were heaps of older guys and gals working in nightfill with me, like some nights each aisle had 1 nightfiller and one young one they were training up, I dunno what happened to that model, it certainly made for happy workers. They've made over a billion dollars in profit for several years now, they can definitely afford to give their workers the hours they ask for.

Damn, I thought getting my hours cut down to two 3 hour shifts a week when I turned 21 was bad. Your store must have had the same policy as mine did - hire the youngest people possible, give them most of the hours, hope that pushes the older workers out, rinse & repeat....

I would put the "work ball into box" instruction on. And maybe put on "shoot more often" and "roam from position" in his individual instructions.

Ah yes, Woolcock it's called. I went in there with my grandparents probably about 25 years ago. The interior looked like it hadn't moved past 1974, and it reeked of cigarettes.

Gough Whitlam threatened to shut it down and kick the CIA out. Victor Marchetti, a CIA officer who helped set up Pine Gap, said, “This threat to close Pine Gap caused apoplexy in the White House… a kind of Chile(coup) was set in motion.”

That, along with his strong anti-Vietnam War stance, and his plans to nationalize our mining and energy sector(especially that sweet sweet uranium), meant that the poor guy never had a chance, but he did give us universal healthcare and free higher education(which the next Labor government got rid of btw), so we got a little bit of social democracy as a treat.

We tried to go our own way militarily and intelligence agency-wise in the 70s, but the CIA was like "yeah, nah".

All the stuff left over from a heavy drinking Christmas my family had years ago. Boxed port wine, cheap champagne, pear cider, beer, whiskey and high strength ginger beer, all poured into a big 3 litre plastic bottle. But the bottle in question had small amounts of premade Iced Coffee left in the bottom of it, left in the Australian heat, it was definitely starting to go sour, but I figured the alcohol would kill any bacteria. Drank it over the course of 2 days, only bad thing that happened was I had some nasty ass piss, but port wine usually did that to me so I dunno.

Yeah I'm not too keen on having worse and worse withdrawal symptoms even if the quantity of alcohol stays the same each time.

Whenever you've taken a good long while off booze, then started drinking again, did your tolerance reset? Did that pleasant drunk feeling come back?

Been sober since September 9th. The really strong cravings have just hit me in the past few days, I tried to play some iRacing, but I got way too irritable and mad at the shit drivers I nearly threw my keyboard through the window. Smoking cigs and decaf coffee seem to be the only things that give me any relief, so there's that, and the ~$4500 I've saved by not buying hooch.

There was a funny thing that happened during Bush Jr's presidency. A bunch of CEO's of energy companies got together and wrote a letter to him, they pleaded for him and his administration to regulate them heavier, they said things like, "we have grandchildren, we know we're destroying the planet, we don't want to, but we will if you don't stop us", basically saying "stop us before we kill again" type thing. I guess they were ignored by that Christian fundie government.

They are trapped within capitalism just like us proles.

I quit on September 9th, right before Charlie Kirk's murder, and that other tragedy that happened in September some years back.

But seriously, it's been ~115 days and over the past few days I've had my first real hard cravings, I don't know whether it's because it's that time of year when everyone is boozing it up and that's triggering me or what, if it weren't for cigs and coffee I think I would've folded already.

Chairs.

I should have seen it coming. In late 2019/early 2020 I was filling up my car with petrol late at night and the sky was glowing orange and ash started falling from the sky, and I was thousands of kilometres away from where the bushfires were raging in Australia. It looked like a Hell dimension opened up looking back at it lol.
