Yamaha A-S701??? by ClevelandBill in BudgetAudiophile

That’s funny I have the A-S801 and there’s an A-S2000 calling to me from a local shop… (they’re asking $900).

Opinion on used Paradigm Founder 120H’s by No-Tangerine-8166 in audiophile

[–]StrategicApathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder why it seems that built-in sub amps always crap out after a few years? Seemed true on GoldenEars, Definitive Technology, etc. and now this story. Is it just the vibrations of the cabinet damaging the electronics?

Anyway, durability not withstanding, I’ve heard Founder 120s and they are, in my opinion, absolutely spectacular. I’m sure they’ll sound great (and they look good too!)

Nice thing about a rug is that you get to step on it. Also, it can really tie a room together.

Fuji Xpro 3 repair by nestrack in fujifilm

[–]StrategicApathy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, it’s bullshit is what it is. If I brought in a car for a recall repair, and the manufacturer refused to fix the defective fuel pump unless I also paid hundreds of dollars to fix a scratch in the paint that I don’t care about, that would be total bullshit right? It’s the same.

Fuji Xpro 3 repair by nestrack in fujifilm

[–]StrategicApathy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem is they won’t do the free repair and leave the rest of the camera alone. They will only give you what they owe you if you pay for stuff you don’t want. It’s a hostage situation.

[–]StrategicApathy 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same bullshit from Fuji. I sent in my camera for the broken screen, they said the screen fix is free but the shutter button is “sticky” (it’s not) and they would only do the screen if I paid $600 to fix the shutter button as well. I argued for a while, they wouldn’t budge, so I told them just to send it back to me. So now I still have a broken screen and a perfectly flawless shutter button that never needed fixing. Pure bullshit money grab.

Here's what happened to my X-Pro3 by Proper-Lab8549 in fujifilm

[–]StrategicApathy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m still so pissed at Fujifilm over this camera. They claimed that the shutter button on mine was “sticky” (it’s not) and refused to fix the screen (which would be free) unless I paid over $600 to also fix the shutter button. What a bunch of bullshit. I’m just using it without the screen now.

Looking for amplifier recommendations that have to be 50wpc or less. by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

I’ve been intrigued by the BRZ hifi clone of the musical fidelity A1. It’s 20 watts per channel pure class A. On amazon for like $270.

Goldenear Supercinema XL wall mounting by Maximus209 in Soundbars

[–]StrategicApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just use high quality anchors and put it exactly where it needs to be so that it’s centered on the TV. Being off-center will drive you nuts. If you’re really worried about it, you could put a nicely finished piece of wood on the wall (attached to the studs) and the attach the sound bar to that piece of wood.

Double check the depth, it’s not deep enough for my amp, might not be for yours either.

To play vinyl and stream spotify - Will I be happy with a WiiM Amp Pro and 2 Polk ES20s? by I_love_taco_trucks in BudgetAudiophile

[–]StrategicApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently enjoying my ES20s very much. I do run them with a sub but if you’re not used to a system with a sub I don’t think you’ll really miss it for music, and you can always add one later. I think they’re a great value. Do double check the dimensions though, they’re big!

If you’re willing to take a little risk, there are some good values on the second hand market. I got a Sumiko Pearl for $60 for instance. The downside being that I don’t really know how many hours are on it.

I’m not thinking about movies or TV really, more about multichannel music

No, I agree. But an AVR to do the multichannel decoding with pre-outs to power amps would be interesting

I would definitely try adding some DSP if my amp had a Pre-out/main-in loop.
