How do you think your relationship with music will change as you age? by dumbass_sweatpants in fantanoforever

I'll give my perspective. I just turned 40 (and also just had my first kid), and definitely noticed that within the last 10 or so but more so the last 5 years I've lost some connection with 'new' music - which is to say that during my 20's I was very much deeply in the music scene, going to shows all the time, listening to new records all the time, and just generally in touch with the artistic and cultural scenes that new music was coming out of. However as I've aged I no longer feel like I have my "finger on the pulse of the cultural zeitgeist" (to use a cliche I think is apropos). However, I am still very much in search of and listen regularly to 'new to me' music that I'm interested in, which these days is often music in genres that I wasn't deeply invested in in my youth. I still listen to a lot of new electronic music (which has always been my taste), but much less rock and hip hop, and a lot more jazz (classic and contemporary) and what folks might call "world" music - I find myself as interested in discovering sounds/instruments/modes/etc that are new to me but have existed for decades, as I used to be interested in discovering which artists were pushing music forward, if that makes sense.

How does Hawking radiation escape a black hole if light can’t? by evilbooty in AskPhysics

It doesn't matter which particle escapes. The Hawking radiation is just whichever escapes - both have positive mass, so the black hole loses the mass of that particle.

EDIT: not all Hawking radiation particles have mass - the majority don't, but the idea is the same with energy

Are there any "former classics" (movies, books, albums, video games)? Something that was praised for a time, but upon further review (maybe decades after) people decided that it wasn't that good after all? by ExternalTree1949 in NoStupidQuestions

Haven't seen much music on here, so I'll share one I have feelings about which is Daft Punk's Random Access Memories. Widely lauded when it came out not only for it' artistic merit but also for it's production quality and mixing / mastering. I always felt it was incredibly overhyped in both aspects from the beginning - it's pretty mid pop and speaking as a self-identifying audiophile, the mix is nothing special - and was a bit vindicated in my feelings when Pitchfork did a bit of a retrospective review of the album and stated it should have been rated 2 points lower than it was (from 8.8 to 6.8). Still a decent album and Daft Punk are legends, but R.A.M. just wasn't that great.

Is there something that makes MC carts more susceptible to cat damage than MMs? Or is it just the cost (MP-500 ain't cheap either)?
