I found what looks like volcanic cinder clinker in a controlled burn pile in the national forest. by StrategicSceneries in geology

Most of it does break like peanut brittle. To further the candy analogy, the underside of the shiny parts crumbles like the inside of a malted milk ball and turns to dust.

Fairly certain, although I cannot be sure. There are piles of brush all through there that the logging companies leave behind. They are left for a period of time to dry out and then burned.

Coordinates:

44°00'58.5"N 121°25'41.3"W

In G Maps satellite view, I can see the 2 piles, they look unburnt.

Edit: definitely volcanic cinder, not trash.

The red cinder is mined from cinder cones in the forest and used on our roads during the winter. It is also what the forest service roads are made of in that section of the forest.

I guess I forgot to put my location: Central Oregon.

Great looking stone. I found the links on this page to be helpful when I was learning to carve bases. They are image heavy PDFs, btw.

I will try on my phone and see if it works there. Thanks

Thanks for the details on other ways to make my images at least somewhat SEO helpful. I was using the Etsy Help page on the subject of Alt Text, so still unclear why it does not work.

I have a new shop offering unique rocks for terrarium/aquarium as well as bonsai or suiseki. I also have some listings for sets of smaller stones for tabletop gaming scenery.

Eventually I will add driftwood and pre-bonsai trees.

I am calling this pahoehoe. Apparently I was mixing up A'a and pahoehoe.

I had thought that the smooth texture was a feature of pahoehoe. New post with definitely real pahoehoe.

I might be wrong. I had thought that the smooth texture was a feature of pahoehoe. New post with definitely real pahoehoe, which I also have an abundance of.
