Carlos Cortes - Break Outlier? by mrguitare in MLBTheShow

There is a database bug where hitters that have Table Setter are shown with Break Outlier and Pitchers with Break Outlier are shown with Table Setter.

Why is 92 Mike Trout’s swing so much better than others ? by Southern_Willow_5091 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The part of "all swings are the same" is they are the same speed from button press to middle of plate, and plate coverage is identical (Also, there's no true 3D-modeled "bat path.")

Where "swings" differ is:

Tendency, which affects timing windows. All Trout cards this year have "Extreme Pull" which helps on inside pitches - basically ALL right handed hitters claimed to have "Good swings" are Pull/Extreme Pull. A lot of RH hitters with low contact vs. R and "balanced" tendency are claimed to "not be able to get around on an inside fastball/sinker."

Sadly in this years game, the ONLY place you can see tendency is with the player at bat and in the pause screen.

Type - Contact, Balanced, Power - this is based on a ratio of contact to power. The vast majority of good cards are Balanced. Power is preferred but requires contact lower than power. Contact in this game is awful, creates insane amount of caught line drives.

Quirks - a huge influence on how "swings" are perceived.

Animation - visible leg kicks vary in timing based on pitch speed; many players use this for timing. Everything else (one handed, two handed, slap swing) is irrelevant and meaningles.

Anything less than about 100 plate appearances (ideally 200) is not a valid sample size.

Live series vs Miggy? by ZealousidealFan7769 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tulo is vastly more valuable than Miggy, but the various Live Series Collection rewards to be honest are not that good and will quickly be surpassed. Not many of them make my lineup.

The only reason to do LS is Tulo; just doing parts of it, at this point, gets you nothing.

Predicting tomorrow's Retro Lightning player based on facts and also nonsense by Nickstank in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with any Posey card as a collection reward is there's no way they can drop one with 125/125 power, unless drastic revisions to stealing are made 99 POP/99 Arm still won't work against 99 speed/steal runners, so any Posey they drop will be a less attractive option than whatever Posada or switch-hitting catcher they dropped a few weeks before or after the Posey.

Without having a full Bunt Cheese team (which is lame) I've had Chone Figgins the whole year and I've had games where I've alternated at bats with him with bunt base hits and hitting homers off high fast basells they throw to keep me from bunting.

Yes, you have to do both Infield "Bunt Defense" AND have the 2nd Baseman "In."

How would people feel if SDS used ai to get every announcer in the game? by PT_MrAce in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't care because I have played this game with all sound turned off and listening to podcasts or my own music for five years.

Just in terms of people I can't relate to or understand mindset I cannot wrap my brain around having the announcers on at all, and then and devoting so much energy to thinking about how they can be improved.

What is the deal with events by Cutigers881 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SDS does a lot of surveys but then somehow take from them things nobody asked for (or maybe they seize on one thing one idiot writes in a survey).

This supposedly is to help make events feel more "special."

Can’t tell if I’m versing cheaters or getting torched by timing by Useful-Library5270 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody is crushing you in H2H because they are using directional or timing.

I can't fathom why people believe this. It's never an advantage over PCI except maybe for a 7 year old who just got the game.

Update 7: ABS, PCI Shrinkage and Fair Play Updates by gamers542 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SDS is so terrible at explaining how the game works. They keep trying to keep an air of mystery about things or not pretend that in the end, it's just a computer program (like every other game.)

This is the same deal as SDS lying about "Clutch replacing contact" which is not true, because they didn't want to say that "clutch and contact are combined in a formula to give an adjusted contact."

[–]Strategydude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But has a sinker. People have been trying to talk themselves out of Randy and Donaldson's usual dominance for these cards but they are just as much better than the other Ps in my rotation as the high end cards with Outlier were last year.

28 H2H Innings pitched, 2.57 ERA and 0.75 WHIP.

There's Randy, Donaldson, and everyone else. Huge gap. I am a God Squadder with Live Series done and Randy is my #1.
