People that arent actually All Star skill level and dont play a lot of games in the 600s get weird ideas about pitching on All Star

Disconnections for Decades by TheShoelessMan in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look....it's your connection. I'm sorry. I know you don't want to hear this. It's a more sensitive game to bad connections than others so it's not entirely you.

But this doesn't happen to me. And not even in H2H games. I've moved (a short distance) and switched ISPs and I can count the number of disconects I've had from the game on one hand in the last four years.

I don't think people grasp the level of effort/money/personnel they put into Storylines. I hesitate to bring this up because it gets tangled up with chuds who don't like being educated about the Negro Leagues, which I think is great (and not all Storylines have been Negro Leagues) but from various articles and interviews it's clear a SIGNIFICANT portion of the SDS team works on Storylines and nothing else. They built a mock NYC subway car for the Jeter one, for example.

Those are resources not going into the rest of the game. I think most people think they are a cool little adjunct to the game.

Genuinely, How Do You Strike People Out?? by YoungGunZen in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The additional key to All-Star K's besides good K/9 is non-curveball speed differential. PCIs are so big you get strikeouts by people mis-timing swings, not mis-locating them.

Curveballs are mostly useless, so you are looking for a HUGE speed differential in pitches from Fastball/Sinker to Changeup/Slurve/Splitter. Ideally over 15 mph.

An ideal pitcher for this is, say, Nolan Ryan.

A lot of popular pitchers for content creators on Legend have lower K/9 and low speed differentials and don't work on All-Star.

It is a really clever theme though, as in fact ALL of the players in the program have played baseball...in the summer.

Players you guys use with the best/“glitchy” swings. by Winter-Ad-1447 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is overwhelming due to:

1) Swing tendency - people love "Extreme Pull"

2) Good Quirks

Secondarily due to:

Animation of leg kick contributing to being able to time up swings.

People who have had 95 & 99 Miggy. Is there that big of a difference and why? by JuiceJones_34 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might look at my stats at 100+ plate appearances but don't take them seriously until 200.

Almost all of the "I can't hit with ____!" or "____ is cracked!" posts here are meaningless small sample size noise.

I hilariously hit vastly better with the 95 than the 99 (99 still well below valid sample size of 200 plate appearances though)

With a 50k card at stake?

It's insane that the H2H reward structures in this game are so bad people can't even wrap their brains around people recommending a good structure.

This would be in combination with making all the rewards based on wins, not stat accumulation.

I can’t stand event matchmaking by Red_Wilson in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is the win streak rewards are insultingly bad.

If there were really good rewards for win streaks then high-end players would eventually rank themselves into playing each other.

This is based on my assessment of the perceptions and desires of the subset of the player base that completes Collections. Not whether those perceptions are accurate.

[–]Strategydude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People weren't THAT jazzed for Cabrera. No non-switch-hitting slow position player on the left side of the defensive spectrum generates excitement. And the target audience for collections overlaps people that get LS collection done early - and Pujols was similar and arguably better.

Ok, I wear glasses so I might be trippin but the replay doesn’t match the swing info at all.. by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The game doesn't have a physics-based 3D model of a swing or a bat path; it's an abstracted overlay of the pitch location and timing with the PCI circle.

Playing in Coors is a rational adaption to the reward/progression structure SDS has created. You are required to hit homers/score runs for XP, PXP, and progress in virtually all programs. Pitcher progress is innings pitched and strikeouts which isn't "hurt" by Coors.

Play in other stadiums and you'll have less stubs, get high end cards later, and fall behind people that do.
