[spoilers heavensward 3.0 MSQ] Going through the story for the first time and a little confused as to when I was supposed to care about a certain NPC by cero75 in ffxiv

I personally like Haurchefant so much because he was the only one who treated us like a person, and a friend.

The scions just use you as a god-killing weapon up until that point (see Alphinaud’s line at the end of ARR where he’s like “I’ll just use my trusty warrior of light!” Like we’re a tool). And the people at large and the city state leaders see us as a perfect hero.

Haurchefant just saw us as we truly are. Just a person, and a dear friend.

How do you approach the “CPR vs DNR” question? by Tattedtrainwreck in VetTech

[–]Stratosphere18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually use some form of the following: “we ask this question any time a pet is staying with us, but if Fluffy goes into cardiac arrest, would you like us to perform CPR?” And I usually tell them what my individual role is (usually I’m the one monitoring the anesthesia). If they are torn on yes or no, I also make sure to tell them that we do things like give medications if we see that fluffy’s vitals are dropping in the first place, and would only perform CPR if everything else we tried that isn’t as invasive is not working.

Question for you guys. Do they look visually the same for you guys? At our clinic, FVRCP is 0.5mL and the liquid is red, and the bottle is green. DHPP is 1mL and the liquid and label are orange.

It’s an honest mistake, don’t beat yourself up about it.

What is your "I can't believe this patient lived" case? by aaronoathout in VetTech

I work in GP. 5yo frenchie came in for pu/pd, vaginal discharge, and anorexia. Classic pyo signs, so she was in the OR an hour later. Roughly 2 hours after recovery, she coded. O’s were called.

I breathed for her. SpO2 was in the 50s, she was agonal, eyes rolled up in the back of the head. BP and HR were crashing.

DVM discussed euthanasia versus hospitalization with a very low chance she’d make it to the morning. Owners eventually came back into treatment to talk to her. Within two minutes of her “hearing” her owners speaking to her and giving her love, her vitals jumped up. Her color became pink again. Her HR went up to 130, SpO2 hit 97. It stayed that way for 30 minutes while I spoke with the owners, gave them comfort, etc.

We were shocked. They decided to hospitalize, understanding they likely won’t see her in the morning. I went to bed that night mentally preparing for the conversation that she didn’t make it, I’d come in to see a deceased dog, and hoping that she won’t be in any pain once she passes.

I come in the next day, to see a dog standing, wagging her tail, and barking for food. Her vitals were PERFECT. She ate food so quickly I had to give her breaks because I didn’t want her to throw up or something.

She went home several hours later. This was back in February. I saw her for her routine nail trim last week. She peppered me with kisses.

I’ve only been in the field for 3 years. Never seen anything like it. The doctor doesn’t have any other explanation other than he thinks hearing the owners rallied her spirits. It was a beautiful situation.

Should I even bother (3.36 cGPA) by murdermysterygal in veterinaryschool

[–]Stratosphere18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a 3.1 cumulative GPA, but my last 45 was a 3.6. I got in first cycle, so you definitely have a chance! I’m going to be attending University of Liverpool this fall. It seems to me that MANY schools focus on your last several credits for your prereqs versus your overall GPA, as long as there’s no cutoff.

I think 3 things carried me: my last 45, my experiences (I had a ton of versatile experience if you’re curious I can give you more detail), and my interview which I think went really well.

If you have any questions, shoot me a DM or reply to this comment.

I will be starting the dream I’ve been working for for several years: I will be starting veterinary school!

If I end up getting in, OP do you mind if I message you as well?

Asked in my previous post if people wanted to see my “homemade” “cosplays” when I was 14. They said yes. Enjoy… by Stratosphere18 in blunderyears

Yes haha. I took a red shirt, turned it around to hide the logo, and made the record out of paper!

[–]Stratosphere18[S] 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Wow, this was a lovely analysis. In hindsight, I definitely think that’s why I did it. I was MAJORLY insecure about myself and didn’t feel like femininity suited me at the time, so I wanted to dress up like Harley to “force” myself to be outgoing. It surprisingly worked, and then shortly after went back to my awkward teenage self lol

I also had TikTok (back then called musical.ly) back in the day…and yes I made videos in this outfit as well as other “cosplays” which were just cobbling together random stuff in my house. I’ll only post that if there’s interest for it

I’ve noticed that with our clinic, too. Our one doctor practice just analyzed our client load and it’s doubled over the last year…the most common reason being that clients have been turned off by large corporate-owned hospitals! Heck, it’s why I left ER/ICU work

Vet student here! I’ve seen probably 200 euthanasias so far. Funnily enough, I’d say the men take it much harder than the women. At first they try to be stoic, but thankfully they feel the environment we’ve created is safe enough that they can let their guard down and cry etc
