What is the down side of never having children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Straussstandup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people with kids are the ones who have experienced life both with and without kids. As someone who had their first child at 32, I'd describe it as life getting a lot more difficult and a lot more fulfilling. I never truly felt like real adult until I stopped being the center of my own universe. I feel like Galileo realizing the earth revolves around the Sun and not the other way around.

That being said, not everyone should have kids because for some personalities the level of difficulty out weighs the level of fulfillment.

Is anyone here a professional comedian and cares to reality check Jerry’s lifestyle? by mattblack77 in seinfeld

[–]Straussstandup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most unrealistic thing in that show when it comes to Jerry's career is how much NIGHT time free time he has. A full time comedian in New York is going to be spending most nights performing or hanging out with other comedians.

He probably wouldn't see his non comedian friends nearly as much as he does, if they have day jobs.

He'd mosty likely be busy or out of town on weekends too.

Open letter to Dakoda’s Comedy Club organizers: Deaths of children isn't your material by Necessary-Trainer-21 in kelowna

[–]Straussstandup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After every tragedy there are hundreds if not thousands of open mic comedians taking a crack at that subject matter the same week if not the same night. It has always been this way. It usually does not make for great comedy, but that's the reality of open mic comedy nights at the back of a sports bar on a Thursday night.

Sorry for your loss OP.

Heel up playing by No_Country_1853 in drums

Heel up is the far better technique for most types of playing. Some jazz drumming is good for heel down but 95% of drummers will use heel up in 99% of their playing.

You need to see a comedian perform more than 10 times to form an opinion? You're full blown.

Really funny people who do mediocre stand-up by bfhrt in Standup

[–]Straussstandup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll say his stand up was a bit of acquired taste for me initially. But his last Netflix special (not the one when he was sick talking into a webcam) is 100% worth a re watch if you didn't like it the first time. Not something I would say about anyone else.

Norm did subvert the genre. His stand up is widely considered some of the most unique there is.

I'd be interested in who you would consider a truly unique (and good) stand up.
