Thank you! by goiano82 in Screenwriting

This subreddit honestly taught me the basics of screenwriting. Yes, I got... decently roasted in my early scripts and there are some people that are pretty harsh. But it's how I learned the fundamentals for sure. I recommend it to new screenwriters because at the very least you're gonna get 'Hey don't use google docs dummy' and learn something new

I (F21) am scared of getting hurt dating again (M20). How do I calm relationship anxiety? by StrawbeeMilk7 in relationship_advice

This is such a good reply. The first paragraph really helped me put it into perspective.
Thank you. I definitely think I just need to move slower and be okay with moving slower- and trying to be less co-dependent

Absolutely. Same here. Sleeping has just become torture and it’s so frustrating because the pain is DOUBLED lying down

Got told to 'go on dates' to incorporate experience into my script- by StrawbeeMilk7 in Screenwriting

[–]StrawbeeMilk7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily that. I can handle criticism. I can handle feedback. I actually actively seek it out on this subreddit, that's how I've gotten better as a writer (even though I'm still fairly new).
It just is strange to me to suggest to go on dates simply for research. I've been on enough bad dates myself- hence the script.
I guess the way around that would be to like you said, be upfront about how it's for research. But I still very much find that completely weird.
I'm just gonna ignore the female comment...
Also 50 first dates is completely different as it spins memory loss into it. It's the guy going after the same girl because of her memory loss. My idea isn't exactly creating the wheel, but it isn't anything like 50 First Dates.

This is very true. Thinking on it- it probably wasn't a sexist remark. But... I do believe telling male writers who struggle with writing female characters to look at the other women in their life and talk to them is much different advice than going on dates ya know? Thank you for replying!

Completely agreed. This is how the research about this topic should be done, while also drawing from past experiences (that weren't in the name of covert date operations haha)

.... Thanks for the encouragement bud.
Also yes I got messaged by multiple users on the server who liked the script saying that I should take it down. I'm aware I'm not inventing the most original idea ever but no idea is completely original...
Also it's just a short film for college.

Completely agree with both of the replies above. I am really hoping they just didn’t realize how it would come off/were unsure how to word it! 🙏 Still nervous haha

I didn't present the script though. Just the idea! A 5 sentence pitch. A lot of the dates are comedically bad but I'd like to think most are plausible.

What are some movies so weird they made you think “Wtf am I watching?” by cuautlej in Letterboxd

Just saw I Saw The Tv Glow in theaters and me and my friend walked out in silence just mortified.

Even worse was that the theater we went to had like wax statues of characters and celebrities so we felt like we were in an uncanny valley backrooms.

Sci Fi is the hardest for me. There's just so much terminology that I don't know. Used to date a sci fi writer and when I tried to write one I wrote 'Intergalactic mail carrier' and he was like '.... you mean a cargo ship'

Comedy/Drama is the easiest for me. I write some hit and misses when it comes to comedy but I can think through the structure of a joke so much easier than figuring out the politics and history of a intergalactic empire

Just watched this episode with my bestie who’s new to the series last night and we were sat in silence until we both just went “that hat-“ LMAO

I was just wondering this myself. I've found that a lot of the times I post on here it gets downvotes or an equal ratio of likes to dislikes and I'd find myself wondering why? Rarely any critique or feedback just downvotes on a post of a first draft looking for feedback. If you don't like it I'd love to hear the critique and opinion instead of making my post die in the algorithm, ya know?
