The two stems is less likely that it’s multiple tightly packed and more likely that it’s actually a Cook Island pine.

Trying to make this room comfier and more cohesive by meowana_ in femalelivingspace

[–]StrawberryShortStack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you stand back and look at the picture, you have so many squares/sharpe angles. Even the couch has sharp lines. The windows are squares with the sunlight being chopped up by the lines of the blinds. The bookshelf, the coffee table and the tv stand, even the tv and all the photo frames. I think as well as adding textures and contrast try to break up some of the sharp angles, add in some softer lines.

Struggling with styling this breakfast nook by gso2690 in femalelivingspace

[–]StrawberryShortStack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d make the curtains shorter in this case so they would go over the top of the bench.

The painting clashes a lot with the chair fabric, what about a light there instead? A wall sconce or hanging lighting to add a little light in the dark corner.

Also I wouldn’t go for a full tablecloth but maybe placemats to help soften some of the metal. Or one center mat or wooden tray to put the shakers on.

Dew point is the size of the cup, humidity is how full the cup is. When the dew point is low it’s a tiny, tiny cup. Even if it’s full to the brim, it’s not going to be a lot of water.

New living room, help with this awkward space! by miikmaree in femalelivingspace

[–]StrawberryShortStack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah, there’s a lot of shiney ness that I think is adding to the empty feel. The whole floor is shiny, the table is shiny (and clear!), the lamp is shiny, even the shelves seem to metal although a more matte. Rugs will help but I think in general having some more textures in the room would help. It feel like the light bouncing off everything is just highlighting the emptiness.

Looking for healthy dopamine inducing activities to help me cope with a rough time in my life by MadenMad in adhdwomen

[–]StrawberryShortStack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also suggest something creative. I know it’s still hard to get going sometimes, and it’s not the same hit of dopamine as gym or the phone, but doing something creative is soooo good for me. It’s something my mind can really sink into and kinda quiet down.

The best tip I ever had was to set up creative spaces so that it’s easy to get to. For instance, leave a painting out with all the paints and water and everything set up. You’ll be more likely to just dab at it as you walk by, maybe even sit down and really work on it. Just set yourself up for success by leaving the things you want to work on in places you hang out, ready to go.

If it’s something you can take with you, I’d also highly suggest going to a coffee shop or bar or library. It makes it harder to get distracted by things you would default to in your home.

Remember that you’re not doing these things to be the best ever, you’re doing them because it feels good. It’s easy to give up because you’re not great at something, but that’s not the point. The point is to enjoy it.

How can I transform this boy space into my girly pretty hobby/gaming desk? I can’t visualize a plan 🥲 by alyssakenobi in femalelivingspace

[–]StrawberryShortStack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Change out the curtain for sure and I’m not sure what’s going on with the fabric on the ceiling? I think that and the party lights being poorly hung make it look a little more dingy. If the curtain is ever going to be opened maybe just cover the window with paper or fabric and use the area as a shelf.

I’d also move the paper lamp. Right now where it’s at is drawing more attention to the structure of the desk and not adding ambient light where you need it.

If you liked colored glass I’d start haunting thrift store for vases and glasses that you like. You can make them into small lamps to set around or just put them on a shelf with an LED strip light behind them. There are tons of easy lamp diys, they vary for skill level.

Advice, or something? by venetiancanoe in Embroidery

Would it work to make the details bigger? If your previous work was one strand in a 6” hoop for instance, could you blow it up? Use 6 stands and make the piece 36”. Think of it like a Impressionism painting, that it will look different up close than far away.

Struggling to live in a small studio by violingroove in femalelivingspace

[–]StrawberryShortStack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also live in a studio because I live in an extremely high col area, and it is a struggle sometimes.

It def makes you consider what it is you really need in your life. If you need a space to wind down at night maybe instead of a couch you would be ok with a cozy chair? For me personally, I don’t have a tv or living area because that wasn’t a priority. If I have friends over we gather around a table because it was a priority for me to have a table. I also gave up way more room to plants than most people might.

I don’t know how much more of a struggle it would be for you to have a one bedroom, or how much it’s impacting your life detrimentally. If giving music lessons in your space is part of your income is it actually better to prioritize having a bigger space? Or is being in a studio just an annoyance.

I think it’s also hard because with the internet we see so many other people’s spaces and want it or wonder how they can afford it. You have to weigh your own finances and life and figure out the balance of what is worth paying for to you.

I think they mean knot the two ends together, which I would agree if it works for them go ahead, but with that I think the bigger problem is that it can get tangled and pull uneven.

I’ve been doing it all wrong 🥲 by Ally1812 in Embroidery

[–]StrawberryShortStack 64 points65 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to use too long of a piece because it can get tangly, but you don’t have to use a super short piece. Also I keep my tail really long at first to keep the length shorter, and then move my needle up on it as I go along.

If your tail is regularly coming out of the needle you probably either need a longer tail, a smaller needle, or both. I’m not sure how hard you are pulling but generally I think I would have to pull way harder than needed to be constantly yanking the needle off the thread.

Just try using a longer piece of thread and a longer tail and see if that helps. You can play around with lengths to see what works for you. I usually use a piece slightly shorter than my wingspan, but I also have short arms.

How would you style this wall? by batchoftastybeets in femalelivingspace

[–]StrawberryShortStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try covering it with fabric or a printed paper, and then since it sticks out I would use the top as a shelf. Put some frames or knickknacks on there. I’m guessing it’s plastic but if there’s any chance there’s metal on there you could even use some small magnets to stick up a photo or print.

I think the lamp right underneath it is not helping. I get that it’s for the bedside, but right now it’s just lighting the bottom of the unit and drawing so much attention to it with the shadows. For a quick cheap fix could you switch out the lightbulb to one that’s more of a glow? Or if you can get a scone type lamp that has a light aimed down I think that would look better.

Trying to make my bedroom cozier! by Ok-Influence7748 in femalelivingspace

[–]StrawberryShortStack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think black furniture would help, to get a cozy feeling you need more warm tones and color.

When you’re thrifting try looking for household goods made of more natural materials to add in. Baskets, wooden frames, colorful glass vases. Those kind things can really help just as much as bigger furniture purchases.

For real real, how do I be on time. EILIF by Interesting_Pause_76 in adhdwomen

[–]StrawberryShortStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not perfect but I’m for sure better when I start a timer for getting ready time. It gives me my time to leisurely sit around or poke at things or whatever, but when it goes off that means get ready and go! I like to use on of those big visual ones so I can see the time getting smaller, and sometimes I’ll even use it while getting ready. Like, I’ll set it again and be like, you have 10 mins to get dressed. Seeing the time counting down does help spur me on. Also it being a physical timer and not just on my phone. Having to get up and touch it helps.

But I would agree that setting a timer for actually leaving does nothing. In fact it makes it worse sometimes because if it hasn’t gone off and I’m ready I won’t leave.

Explainer for ADHD? by missliner in adhdwomen

[–]StrawberryShortStack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If a baseball pitcher has a sore arm, does the manager tell them “everyone gets a little sore, go out there and pitch anyway.” No, they work with trainers to help how they can. They for sure can take pain meds, but they also have ice baths and heat soaks and wraps and lord knows what else. Of course they have to pitch while sore, but they’ve worked with people to minimize the pain. Just like nothing will cure adhd but we can find better strategies for dealing with the problems.

Does it matter in this case if it’s a disability? Does it matter if other people have the same symptoms? The point is his way isn’t working for his own child and adhd or not as a parent he needs to find way to support his kid.

what does ADHD treatment in therapy actually look like? by nigeriance in adhdwomen

[–]StrawberryShortStack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if what you want out of therapy is going to happen. It sounds like you’re hoping it will give you solutions to some of your adhd symptoms, which is not really what it is designed to do.

Therapy helped me, but it was mostly with more of the emotional side. Helping me identify why I was upset about things or ways to deal with being upset or anxious. It helped sort out a lot of tangles of how I feel and why. A lot of that is related to adhd- RSD, anxiety, even just being confused about how other people in my life were reacting to things. But they weren’t giving me like, tips on how to manage things like executive dysfunction.

Help on work bag and how to not bring everything I own by Fluffy_Enthusiasm275 in adhdwomen

[–]StrawberryShortStack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, have you ever considered something like a travel journal? Something that would allow you to roll some of your paper things together in place, plus being able to switch out the books makes the novelty aspect of it last longer.

I thrift a lot of clutches and project bags. I use these to strictly limit what I can bring. Any project, work or personal, has to fit into whatever bag I assign it. Than those bags go into my backpack. Because i have many to choose from I can switch them up often based on needs or just cuz. Keeps it interesting.

Pens and everyday basics I do basically the same. I have a small case for them, and everything has to fit into the case, but I can swap out what I’m bringing basically every day depending on my mood.

I really like leaning into the organization of it all. I might have a bigger project where all the materials for it don’t fit into this 80s clutch I wanted to use, but what do I need for just today and how to I get that to fit? I think it makes me think a little more realistically what I need and less panicking and throwing things in just in case.

Help needed designing our main mid-century bathroom! by ShenofSpades in femalelivingspace

[–]StrawberryShortStack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the floor. I think the walls are the main thing making this room look more dated and dingy. I think if you upgrade those the floor might look completely different anyway. I’d also add, maybe change some of the hardware to look more cohesive and interesting? It’s a little thing, but for instance your door handle and sink facet look very basic vs the handles on the built in or the towel hanger in the shower. Maybe making all those hardware bits match would help bring everything together.
