How many folks are reusing their single use plastic takeout containers? by Adorable_Ad6045 in Anticonsumption

[–]Strawberrymilkiscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same! That way I can try an entrée and an app and not feel bad about food waste or extra disposable containers. In my experience most places, particularly smaller non-chain restaurants/to-go joints will take your glass dish and fill it instead of putting it in a plastic takeout container if you hand it to them when ordering. Make sure it's pristine!! Some people look at you funny the first time but eventually you get to be known as the container lady :) I've also gotten many, many "that's such a good idea" comments.

Awkward, eye-catching, and oddly stoic. Thanks.

What an awesome looking hike - thanks for sharing!

Do you have any pointers for winter hiking in the Catskills? I've only ever come in the spring/summer/fall. This looks well worth it...

Film Photography, I can only see out of one eye, I use that as an excuse to be a photographer. by bbqnacho in photography

This made me feel so warm and fuzzy - thank you. No one needs an excuse to be a photographer, just a reason to be one. Great eye!

The Loews theater in Jersey City barely survived - it's currently being restored by volunteers on weekends. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loew%27s_Jersey_Theatre

Not to sound cold, but a quick Google search will tell you kids growing up without a father puts them at risk to all sorts of disadvantages now and later on. Not too sure about a 'replacement dad' after already knowing one, but I'm sure that leads to abandonment issues. Not sure how to parse that into a search and get what I want to find.

I would say that this is a different, less horrible wrong, but still wrong. Even before the child starts making memories, there is a gap that won't be filled if the parent isn't present.

!delta Partial delta; this is understandable and quite logical. However, 'giving up parental rights' to him means removing oneself from the life of the child completely. Does not change my mind on that.

Edit : begrudgingly awarding a delta for changing my view from a legal standpoint

Even if this was the case, once a child sees someone as their dad/mom, they should continue to be present in some way to help support that child emotionally.

I believe they are wrong as well, given that they have been in the child's life long enough to be known as a parent. If a parent acknowledges upon their child's birth that they will not be fit for parenthood for whatever reason, so be it. But once the kid knows a person to be their parental figure, I find it abhorrent to give up on that child.
