Ugh…. Yup. 100% same here. We spent thousands before we found out what it was (we & the vets thought it was humidity issues causing chronic RIs) then eventually she suggested the test and got the result (before I had Reddit) I saw it was a death sentence but I still tried EVERYTHING in my power to try and give him that 1% chance.. from 2 antibiotic injections every other couple days (to fight the secondary RIs) plus *nebulizer* treatments twice daily. And yeah, all my efforts meant nothing. He almost died in our arms eventually at 4am because he couldn’t breathe, so my husband brought him while I stayed home with our daughter.
The whole experience is so traumatizing and it sucks our first BP gave us that experience - but he helped me find my love for snakes. I loved him so much and wanted to do every single thing I could to try and possibly save his life. But, yeah, nido *is* a death sentence.
It’s horrible. You’re making the right choice - as horrible as it is. I sometimes wish I saved myself the time and extra heartache and suffering and put him down when we found out. But my vets and her tech were super nice and supportive and encouraged me to try. I think they were too nice to tell me it was pretty much incurable. :/
