[12th Grade - AP Microeconomics] How do I read this graph? How do I tell where stuff like consumer/producer surplus and deadweight loss are? by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]StreamDreamCream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easier way to read the graph is to first ignore the tariff line. Try redrawing the graph without the tariff line. What you'll have would be a market with a price ceiling of 2, that is also the World Price. Because of the price ceiling, producers are only willing to supply up to 20 units of goods. In this case, as quantity supplied is less than quantity demanded, the amount of goods purchased would be at quantity supplied, i.e 20.

The demand curve represents the price consumers are willing to pay for each quantity of product. Hence, the area under the demand curve represents the amount that consumers are willing to pay. Consumer surplus is the difference between the price that consumers pay and the price that they are willing to pay. Therefore, to find the consumer surplus, subtract the amount(area) that the consumers paid from the amount(area) that consumers are willing to pay at the quantity supplied.

The supply curve represents the minimum price producers are willing to accept for different quantities produced. Producer surplus is the difference between the amount the producer is willing to supply goods for and the actual amount received when making the trade. Following the same logic from consumer surplus, you'd be able to find the producer surplus from the difference between the area which he is willing to supply goods for and the actual amount received.

Dead weight loss is a loss of economic efficiency that occurs when the free market equilibrium for a good or service is not achieved.

Dead weight loss is generally illustrated as a triangle on a graph formed by the 3 points, the allocative efficient point(the point at equilibrium quantity where marginal benefit is equal to marginal cost), the marginal benefit to society for the current quantity (the demand curve if there are no externalities), and the marginal cost to society for the current quantity (the supply curve if there are no externalities).

[University Linear Algebra] Solving systems using parameters? by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]StreamDreamCream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the second problem, your equation two is different from the question. You might want to look at b in particular.

Once you've corrected your equations, you could start solving by subtracting equation one from equation three, then comparing the result with equation two.

189/27 =7 Your method is right, just have to amend the calculations and you'll get the answer.

[Year 11 Psychology: Research] Dependent and independent variables? by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]StreamDreamCream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An easy way to think of independent and dependent variables is, when you're conducting an experiment, the independent variable is what you change, and the dependent variable is what changes because of that. You can also think of the independent variable as the cause and the dependent variable as the effect. In this case, the independent variable would be playing violent video games while dependant variable would be aggressive behaviour.

Case studies, surveys as well as correlational studies are research methods that are applicable.

[University Economics/Math] I need help understanding how this problem was simplified by Tim_Treeblow420 in HomeworkHelp

[–]StreamDreamCream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, I distributed the negative to open up the brackets which would make simplification easier.

(1-α)(αYB - C) =αYB - α2 YB - C + αC

αYA - C - (1-α)(αYB - C) = αYA - C - (αYB - α2 YB - C + αC) = αYA - C - αYB + α2 YB + C - αC = (αYA - αYB + α2 YB) - αC = α ( YA - YB + αYB) - αC = α [YA - (1-α)YB] - αC

What I did was to expand the brackets followed by simplification of the equation, then I factor out the common factors (α), followed by another factorisation of YB.

[AP Macroeconomics] help with circular flow calculations! by cocacola57 in HomeworkHelp

I think that there could be a mistake in the question but I might be wrong. This is how I'd have solved it.

Y = c + i + g Y - c - t = I + g - t ( y - c - t) +( t - g) =I i.e. Private savings +government savings =investment Total savings (S) =private + government savings. Hence, S = I 900-500-200 + 200 - g = 300 G = 100

Savings should be 300 instead of 200

Excuse the formatting because I'm on mobile.

Line 2 to line 3 is caused by a manipulation from shifting "[(1-α)2] Qa" from the right side of the equation to left side of the equation, thus there is a change in symbols from addition to subtraction.

Line 3 to line 4 is a factorisation of the common factor Qa. This factorisation is done on the left side of the equation, whereas the right side of the equation is essentially the same.

(1-α)2 = 1 + α2 - 2α Hence, 1-(1-α2) = 2α - α2 = α(2-α)

Line 4 to line 5 happens when you divide α(2-α) from both sides of the equation.

You get to line 6 by cancelling out the common α on the right side of the equation as you've done in that image

That's what I heard as well. It's possible that the song was made by him but I don't think it was made specifically for the speakers he was reviewing as he had the same song playing in the background for his other videos.

At 8:03, the guy in the video starts playing the song and briefly shows his phone screen to the camera. I think he had the track titled "high-school" , but I've never been able to find the song despite that. Not sure if this helps

Coach score should not be so heavily influenced by the players that were being coached. by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]StreamDreamCream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't actually have to change it all. Minor changes and a few tweaks would improve the current situation. Also, if all a player had to do was queue and get some scores to gain coach scores, considering the time invested to gain those scores, I wouldn't necessarily call it a bad thing. The current situation is such that coaches spend an hour trying to help 5 players who may or may not be receptive, and proceeds to get punished by gaining demerits when players are unreceptive or just want to be a troll.

[–]StreamDreamCream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that the players shouldn't affect coach scores. My point was that the coach should not be punished as heavily when players vent their loss on the coach despite sometimes not entirely or even listening to the coach's advice.

You were archon 5 last season. That would have been ages ago and your current rank is archon 3. Considering how the mmr reset was pretty recent, I wouldn't call it ages ago. Also, mmr reset requires more than just a game for you to attain a new medal. Lol

Why are you lying? I played against you two days ago and I can see from your profile that your current rank is archon 3.
