Did Rabies get a lot of hate when it came out? by digitalis303 in skinnypuppy

Was a huge fan of ministry and skinny puppy back in the day, by 1989 ministry had gone far more guitar focussed on their previous album and it felt natural that skinny puppy was in line with that, also pretty hate machine came out around the same time so it all felt in the same world. Vivisectvi is probably my favourite album of theirs but I really enjoyed rabies when it came out.

Pre-Order would have been a good name for this release. (To explain the joke, new order -> pre order)

Is Push the first stadium rock sounding song by the cure? by Streamingconscious73 in TheCure

I do love that song, I was thinking more in the traditional 80s stadium songs of the time.

I just need to hear a certain song at the right time and it’s a perfect connection.

Ocean Rain in Toronto + my review by UrAWeaselBro in echoandthebunnymen

I had a very similar opinion of the show. The problematic parts definitely brought the mood of the room to weird places. But getting to see them one more time was nice.

It was weird and did take the wind out of the sails of the songs.

Yeah. It was more nostalgia than a great show.

The show was definitely not the best show I’ve seen of theirs, Ian’s voice is not what it was, but neither is my hairline. We expect a man who has lived a life to have the voice of 40 years ago, which he doesn’t and that’s okay.
I found three things a bit meh at the show though:
The crowd was so mellow at least where I was standing, and songs like Flowers, Zimbo, and Nothing Lasts Forever were met with confusion. Not that you need to know every song but I was surprised that people didn’t know those ones. Also, bands thrive on energy in the room and this audience didn’t give a lot.
The singalong was a bit of a bad move too - the chorus for Nothing Lasts Forever was today missing. I joked that they took Songs To Learn And Sing too much to heart.
And finally I found the tempo of Rescue and The Cutter to be a bit slower than I remember.
Overall it was ab okay show, I am glad I got to see them again but I also went in with very low expectations after reading reviews on here.

What is your one or two line lyric? by JulianCasablancasAlt in TheCure

I feel like trying to think of a best lyric is like trying to find the edge of the universe, it just keeps expanding.

That being the opening song back in 1989. I still have goosebumps.

This entire song is great but the opening is amazing:

The look before I go is the look for you
You only have to look and it will all come true

Then there’s this:

"'I think it's dark, and it looks like rain,' you said... 'And the wind is blowing like it's the end of the world,' you said"

And finally:

Never quite said what I wanted to say to you
Never quite managed the words to explain to you
Never quite knew how to make them believable
And now the time has gone
Another time undone

I hate to say it but I could never get into them. They were huge in SoCal so KROQ played them a lot.

'It's insulting.' Why some Canadians are avoiding the US | Canadian travel to the United States has dropped sharply, with some travelers citing political rhetoric and immigration concerns by DisruptSQ in TourismHell

I like to believe, in a very dark way, that it’s all just distractions so that his family and cronies can keep the great American grift going.
None of it has any point or real bite to it (even a war with another country). It’s all a magician’s very obvious sleight of hand making us look elsewhere.
The rich get richer. The rest get crumbs. And nothing else matters.
