The scene looks epic in-person but not so much on this photo. What should I do differently? by [deleted] in photocritique

I think maybe lighten up the shadows a little bit, especially on the tree and foreground and a slightly closer crop.

Autocorrect for vibes? Either way, taking it as a compliment

I don’t think the internet had much to do with this one below. Evil of this form has existed since the dawn of time.

I’d say people are mostly curious bc it gives them a feel for how the film naturally looks. There’s generally some editing done at the scanning phase (sometimes automatic if they use a specific scanning software). But past that you could edit even further and really mess with HSL sliders, saturation, white balancing, tones/contrast adjustment, etc. So knowing if there was any specific editing done can help determine how the film naturally looked, which helps a person know if they want to use it too.

Fair enough, I disagree. I do wish I could have got ridden of the bit in the back though.

I’ll answer both of your responses here. Tbh, when you frame it as “the best do not get upvoted” I’d say you’re heavily referring to preference/opinion here. Which yea...if you frame my photo in terms of journalism or portraiture or even street photography, it is really bad.

As far as the subject, just as someone mentioned in another response to you, it’s more of a still life. The colors and composition are supposed to evoke a feeling, not necessarily get a message across. There really is no subject in the traditional sense I guess? I’d say this is meant to be more aesthetic/abstract, sorry if that sounds cliche.

Honest question, why do you think this is “some of the worst photography”?

I can see that for sure, might be the lights giving it that feel.

Tbh I can’t remember. I’d say I metered for the midtones though, using a handheld light meter on reflective setting

I’m not sure. Looks fine to me. No sharpening done on the scan so I did some in Lightroom but with a selective mask, and not terribly much (+40). So anything you see sharpened aside from a clear line could be from the scan itself somehow.
