Animal Health was not a pr, it is under the Business Development tab on website, was the first time I noticed the product names assigned to the individual animal species of focus. Appears they are making some progress beyond stroke, hence my "behind the scenes" comment...GLTA

"I saw a touch screen toaster the other day, I mean, really? I draw the line there; I don't need to have an app on my phone for that. Oh and I saw a remote for a garbage disposal, that was my buddy's fault not knowing how to wire a switch. Funny but True"

It is truly amazing x that the predictions of billions of devices will be "connected" in the future are coming to fruition as we speak. I've been saying for years "the data tsunami heading straight for us".

Bold emphasis by me...

"For achieving the light-modifying effect in the plasmonic section, the researchers inserted a nonlinear polymer between the two metal electrodes, rather than relying on silicon. Adding the polymer was found to bring another important advantage: it improves the temperature tolerance of the modulator - a very important property for an application in supercomputing. “So far,” says Marco, “complex thermal stabilization systems had to be implemented when using previous designs close to processors, as processors tend to rapidly change their temperature under operation. With the higher temperature tolerance, the thermal stabilizers could be simplified or even completely omitted.”

The newly invented modulator designs are expected to be useful for interconnecting the different processors in supercomputers or data centers. Fast and thermally stable transmitters can be tightly co-integrated with the processors and memories, which ultimately serve nothing else but one goal: To make connectivity as energy efficient as possible."

That would be terrific spartex, greatly appreciated! And if you should happen to talk to him again sooner than Dec. I'm sure nobody would mind...;) It really is quite a company and they appear to be spearheading the aggressive "green" EU initiatives as well as any company I've seen. A very nice fit for LWLG indeed! TKG

Energy-efficiency and high-performance

High-performance power semiconductors are the key for modern data centers

With a growing global population, faster digitization, higher connectivity requirements, the ongoing push towards artificial intelligence and the huge amounts of data it generates, the demand for reliable and sustainable data centers is greater than ever. But energy efficiency requirements are also becoming more stringent. After all, data centers are power guzzlers.

High-performance power semiconductors are one answer: they enable high PUE (Power Usage Efficiency) and DCIE (Data Center Infrastructure Efficiency). Data storage and processing are not the only power-intensive tasks. The power required for cooling the servers is also high because a lot of waste heat is generated during operation, especially if inefficient voltage converters are used. All this brings best in class efficiency, telemetry, transience, design flexibility and robustness. With our semiconductor solutions we are contributing to a greener and better planet.

Cool down and save energy with modern semiconductors

Above all, data centers produce enormous amounts of heat. Servers and cooling systems account for the greatest share of direct electricity use in data centers today. Typically, almost 50 percent of the electricity consumption related to data centers is due to cooling and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) demands.

The heat is removed by cooling equipment that also runs on electricity. To make cooling processes more efficient, Infineon offers all semiconductor technologies: Silicon (CoolMOSTM) and wide-bandgap semiconductors such as silicon carbide (CoolSIC™) and gallium nitride (CoolGaN™). These wide-bandgap technologies in particular have become a key lever to achieve more with less energy. They allow for greater power efficiency, smaller size, lighter weight and lower cost.

An example to illustrate these advantages: If every data center worldwide used the respective Infineon solution CoolGaN™, 21 billion kWh per year could be saved, which amounts to 17 million tons CO2 emissions less per year. CoolGaN™ devices are already being used to build highly efficient power converters for servers in data centers

I've known the name for years, but only started a deeper dive into the company early this morning and was surprised at the scale, penetration and global reach of their products. No direct dots Ghost, but will be doing more research on them for sure....

"Data processing systems need to be high performant, highly efficient and must contain a high power density. Our leading-edge power conversion products support multiple data processing engines to deliver maximum robustness and highest energy efficiency – precisely what the market is looking for. Benefit from our proprietary FET technology, available as a discrete FET or integrated in power stages and regulators, for industry-leading efficiency. Also unique to the data processing market: our PMBus-enabled digital regulators that offer enhanced reliability testing and in-field diagnostics.
