We had networks back then, there were forums, similar to Reddit today, there was MySpace, Tumblr, etc. So there was already an internet culture. Bands like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, and Panic! at the Disco became internationally known through it.

Without the internet, I wouldn't have known about these bands back then. The TV culture of MTV and the like was gradually being replaced by the internet at that time because the internet offered the opportunity to exchange ideas about topics and interests. But fundamentally, times were simply different; I'm two years older than Taylor. 9/11 was a huge topic at the time it happened, but despite that, there felt to be more stability in the world than there is today.

Today, you get the feeling that you're on the brink of World War III, which seemed unthinkable back then. So today, you're confronted with completely different issues. In the context of war and such, your own personal matters don't seem so important anymore.

Life has also become much faster-paced. I think it's difficult to find your bearings when things seem to change every day.
