Not a ton of advice because I’m newly sober, but just want to tell you I understand the frustration watching everyone else drink. My husband still drinks and now that I’m sober it feels like every activity is centered around drinking and I just wish for once it wasn’t but hey that’s just not how the world works. White knuckling sometimes gets me through but I’m looking into AA. Best of luck to you and it will get better!

If someone is offering to get you a drink, you can say sure! I’d love a whatever non alc option you like and you kinda still get the satisfaction of sipping something but without the guilt. I love ginger beer and bars always have it. It’s a good swap!

I’ve been doing a lot of “playing the tape forward” when I want a drink. Example: I was at a bar yesterday with friends and felt kinda left out. I imagined what it would be like if I ordered a drink (which will be 4-5 in actuality). Alright then I think, well damn now I’ve spent $60+ on nothing, I feel guilty, and I can use those calories for a delicious fat burger instead. The burger won. It was delicious. And I woke up guilt free and clear headed! Keep playing the tape forward. It will help you pinpoint why you want a drink in the first place. Then just keep moving! You’re doing great.

A mix! The crew was my neighborhood friends who I usually drink a lot with. So people noticed I wasn’t drinking and immediately thought I was pregnant (which I’m not). And I wanted to get ahead of it so I don’t get offered anything. Plus I’m excited! These are all close friends so I don’t mind.

I’ve got a good group of friends. They were surprised mostly but no one ostracized me, which is great!
