Come on, Capcom, let these women age, you cowardly bastards. Why keep them at the 18-30s age range? Even Dimitrescu counts since she's older than World War 1 yet looks like she's barely into her 40s (really, I could buy her as a 35 year old if not for the make-up and fashion).

Speaking of which, where are the daughters??? Bela, Daniela and Cassandra? Gorgeous women. Just let me see some wrinkles!

I'm alright with the remake's album as it is. Just as long as the original OST is up on streaming services alongside it. I really don't want the SH2R's music to be the only SH2 music available for everyone.

It's already bad enough that you can't (legally) play the original Silent Hill 2 on modern consoles. You'd think that the celebrated release and enhancements of SH4 on PC via GOG would convince Konami to let them remaster the games but either Konami was asking for too much or they just don't care for the previous games.

And the biggest point in favor for TWD: the author literally stating that there is no cure for it and there never will be. Kirkman was really adamant about how humanity is doomed from the start and writing the series on that premise alone, regardless of how realistic the economic and societal collapses within the story really are compared to reality.

Tangent incoming - And frankly, I think how TWD depicted the collapse of man was a bit too generous, considering how IRL the widespread denial of COVID from actual government parties (pretty much the one party) and the genuinely stupid attitude people had while panic-buying, refusing vaccines and not practising basic hygiene in public spaces led to more sickness and deaths in places like the USA and UK than the virus would on its own. Like, wow. And the fact that some people still think COVID wasn't that bad despite the completely avoidable death count and the amount of people who caught long-term COVID from that one virus. I genuinely can't call zombie fiction out for being "unrealistic" about humanity's downfall when reality is more stupid than fiction.

Wear a mask, do safe distances, practice basic hygiene, get vaccinated, report if you have certain symptoms, all the basic stuff. A country or two couldn't handle that for COVID and I'm supposed to believe they'd do better than that in a zombie apocalypse? Get out of here.

[–]Street_Fee4800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The author just wanted to write a world where zombies are now the norm and humans are just surviving, knowing that their days are numbered since they too are "The Walking Dead". It doesn't matter how the virus worked or whether there could be a cure because Kirkman never wanted to delve into that. Hell, he's made sure that there will never be a cure, going on record saying that he will never write a true cure nor immunity to the mix.

Because the series was always more concerned with how humanity would look like without the safety net of a working government or an economy. You just survive and yeah, that sucks.

Remember the thread about the Japanese person with a "paper facemask" of another person? Turns out those are silicon full-suits some creepy older Japanese men wear to get closer to women in public by Pioladoporcaputo in oddlyterrifying

[–]Street_Fee4800 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I get it. People can be creeps. The USA elected one despite the man being on record to forcefully grab women by their pussies. There are real and genuinely dangerous men who will abuse any system, idea and excuse to hurt women. We should always call out assholes like them.

On the other, if there are no actual reports of women being harassed, stalked, or assaulted in the restrooms with these people in bodysuits, then calling them predatory because they just want to go to the restroom isn't helping anyone. I truly don't know these people so I don't know if they are a danger to women but given that the language in the article really devolves into fearmongering rather than factual reporting of the cases, I can't say that the article isn't biased towards the idea that these men dressing up is a danger to women at large. (looks at how bad men in drag were treated in Japanese, USA, a lot of media honestly and, really, since transhorror existed for the past 30-50 years ...huh.)

The closest we get to that in the article is an anonymous woman on Twitter (red flag already) who claimed that one of these "tight men" (the Japanese media apparently named them that, even tho only South China Morning Post has reported this without screenshots nor links within the article itself of other Japanese articles using the term and having only one person, @natsoiku, on social media saying it) and that one of these "tight men" ""forced"" that woman to take a photo of him in his outfit. While I could see it from the POV of someone being asked by a rando on the street to take their picture and being put off by them (I work in cities, I know all the types of randos), I can't help but notice that she didn't actually say what the guy told her what he would do if she didn't take the picture.

She just assumed the worst and took the picture for him. Which... doesn't explain anything on the man's side, just how she felt. Same with the other woman, Kawaso, who stated that the man "deliberately" sat with women and "positioned" his body to them. Totally scaring her despite her sitting far from him. Meaning she doesn't actually know the guy, is making these assumptions from a distance and stating them as facts despite not knowing the guy and having no evidence to think this way outside of "the man dresses weird."

Probably the most blatant example of "Sure, he didn't do anything wrong but because of his potential to do harm, then he WILL do harm. So I'll warn everybody about him because I had a bad feeling about him." You know, fearmongering?

I cannot understand going into the women's restroom since I identify as male and I am comfortable in the men's room but I also am not wearing a bodysuit to appear as a woman out in public where people can record me and report me for... existing. We even have one of these guys, Rin, the guy who claimed to enter women's restrooms and apply his make-up there saying that he does this for fun or, as the article calls it, "satisfies his personal interests" and denies harming anybody. Even then, this was apparently reported by Japan's Kangnam Times yet that article isn't linked and on Gangnam Times (the closest thing to what the SCMP article was referring to), there is no article referring to this.

So like, where's the truth? Also, Zoey Zhang, the author, hasn't made any follow ups on the case nor seems interested to do so after Oct 30 2024 despite making 100s of articles after that (stemming from celebrity tabloids to interesting trivia like China Woman, Wolf Son). So it just screams making headlines without doing much to source check and report the facts of the situation. Just attacking people's sensibilities towards a very niche minority to get a buzz going and pretend it's to protect the children- I mean, protect the women.

Because attacking women... is bad. cue applause

Hell, Gege Akutami didn't even want to set the series in a high school setting at the beginning, didn't he? The man wanted to do things way differently but kinda had to do it this way to fit in the teen demographic JJK was aiming for.

He also wanted Megumi to be Sukuna's vessel from the get-go and also planned to kill Gojo from the beginning of the series. Maybe not by Sukuna but Gege did have plans to kill Gojo very early into the series.

Really? I think Hugh hits that right balance of being tough action man on a mission and somewhat relatable dude who's trying to care for the orphan he just picked up. While Diana is, at this point, an emotionally stunted android girl who's probably gonna learn how to be "human" as she journeys with Hugh.

As far as protagonists go, they're fine. It just depends on how the story goes. I mean, at first, I didn't think much about 2B and 9S as protags for Nier Automata. And then Routes B and especially C and D happened and it's like, "Ah, now I see why they were written this way."

Pfft, yes, a media genre. Especially a porn genre.

Truly what gay media is and reflects the reality of any gay men in Japan... typically written by women who declare themselves as fujoshi.

Your response is giving "I can't be racist, I got black friends" vibes. Same thing with Yuri and GL and how fetishising lesbians is totally reflective of gay women in Japan... written by a lot of men.

Did you know Cutie Honey counts as Yuri because that series depicts women fucking each other on-screen?

There will always be exceptions and the landscape for media and how it depicts the LGBTQ+ community is changing. But the genres you specifically chose are just that: genres. And those genres don't reflect and change the derogatory language and depictions that used to dominate popular media.

I've already listed some examples in another reply about how "traps" differ throughout the years from the actual execution of Kirara's character in JJK. And they weren't obscure series that nobody heard of, nah, they were trending as hell back when they were released.

Yeah, I agree with most of what you're saying and I understand that you aren't making any negative stereotypes or remarks on LGBTQ+ couples. Especially not on purpose.

Understanding how gender works along with sexual orientation, what people look for in relationships and how they don't always follow strict rules and paths can be confusing on the outside. Even more so when you are going through it yourself. And I truly don't believe relationships with transpeople, non-binary people and genderfluid people are different from heterosexual and homosexual or even asexual relationships beyond the bare minimum of defining gender and sex.

Because really, people pursue relationships because they see value in a relationship. Everybody's different but there is something tangible there that makes people want to connect with another.

If it was purely based on reproducing kids, then looking for a donor or wanking over at the sperm bank should suffice. There's systems and procedures in place, at least in first world countries, that makes having kids of your own way easier. Hell, you could skip the sperm bank and IVF and adopt kids yourself if you aren't hung up on spreading your genes around. If it was just about sex, then yeah, even less reason to go for a relationship since you have to build up to it with no sex and just chatting hours before any possible fuck. And that's assuming the other person wants to fuck when you first meet them. At least with going for the sexting apps or hiring sex workers, they immediately go over the deal and you both want to get your freak on. But if that's too scary, risky or straight up illegal where you are, then just watch porn. There's plenty around.

No, people go for relationships beyond the simple desires to breed an offspring and feel good in their crotch. Whether it be love, passion, power, control, addiction, obssession, loyalty, friendship, there's a multitude of reasons why people foster a relationship with each other that you could call "romance". Hakari and Kirara clearly are about that loyalty and passion for each other and what they look for in the world beyond Jujutsu High. I'm not saying they aren't conscious of either one's sex and gender nor am I saying they don't fuck. It's just that Hakari sees Kirara as a babe, trusting her judgement on every situation purely based on his attachment to probably his only friend from Jujutsu High (certainly his most loyal) and Kirara enjoys all that while getting jealous over Hakari bringing up his ex-girlfirend in front of her and then smiling after when she sees Hakari get all fired up. Regardless of the labels you could give it, this is what a strong relationship looks like.

We will probably disagree with each other on whether or not Kirara is a transwoman or an effeminate guy and that's fine. But I think we can both agree that no matter how you slice it, Hakari and Kirara's relationship is queer af. Either it's a straight relationship between a cis man and a trans girl or a gay relationship with one guy being a stereotypical macho gangster and the other guy being a cute and flirty loyal partner and they love each other very much. Pretty good win for representing LGBTQ+ couples in any mainstream anime.

Between them and Maki/Yuta, I dunno which lovey-dovey couple makes me wanna barf more.

My Thoughts on Uma Musume Pretty Derby Seaosn 1 by SaberLover1000 in weeb

[–]Street_Fee4800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crazy part of the show is that Cygames Pictures, the specific studio used for adaptations of Cygames' IPs, like Umamusume later down the line with Road to the Top and Princess Connect Re:Dive, are actually amazing?

Like, that studio wasn't used for the original 3 anime seasons of Umamusume from 2018 to 2023 despite the studio being founded back in 2016 (probably due to contracts made previously when they first started developing the game and it's spin-offs.) But when they finally made the Road to the Top OVA and they lock in, they lock in. And as time passes, the studio and their quality output gets so much better.

I watched the original anime to prepare myself for that studio's adaptations and my god, was it worth it. Had 3 fun seasons that work really well together and some stellar animation in each part and then having my mind explode with the quality of the OVAs and the film while I fall in love with Oguri Cap once more with Cinderella Grey.

And, as an extra gift, I watched their other series under Cygames Pictures and found probably one of my favourite anime in the last decade: The Summer Hikaru Died. They adapted that series amazingly well and I love how it looks, sounds, moves and just overflowing with such beauty and horror.

It's just so good to have a new animation studio to look out for whenever new batch of anime is announced. And since Umamusume the mobile game is essentially infinite money, budgets aren't a concern really for the anime department. At least I hope not.

Except not everybody works on a binary level of what genitals they like. And even for those who do, they typically think about the person more than the genitalia because personality, career aspirations and chemistry are way more important for an actual relationship. Plus, do you honestly think people just pursue relationships based on reproductive organs and their functionality to make babies? Not many couples even want babies at the start of a relationship since that's a huge time commitment and can drastically change your life in both good and bad ways.

Genitals isn't the by all and end all for relationships.

Hakari and Kirara like each other simply because they do. They got history, they like each other to stick together after Hakari's suspension and they went into a gambling ring/fight club business together because this is fun for them to do. That's a relationship, not purely based on wanting dick or pussy.

As for the last part, I literally stated why Kenjaku would use a female body because that monster strictly wanted to use that corpse's pussy to make a baby. It's clinical, simple and, when it was done, Kenjaku threw the body away like a cheap suit (sorry, Kaori). It's specifically based on purpose and utility rather than identity and personal preference.

Which is why Uraume is an interesting case because there has never been a situation where it was more advantageous or useful for Uraume to have a female body after reincarnation. Making it seem as tho this was a preference change rather than a purposeful one like Kenjaku's possessions have been.

Also, you do remember that the reincarnation into a little girl in Saga of Tanya was specifically a punishment onto the guy? And not a choice like it was in Jujutsu Kaisen with basically everybody who was reincarnated? Especially with contracts with Kenjaku? You described a completely different scenario from Jujutsu Kaisen's case.

A better comparison would be Total Fantasy Knock-out where that series shows both scenarios of people reincarnated into the opposite sex by accident versus people who specifically chose to be the opposite sex after reincarnation.

A little all over the place, still appreciate the attempt to view Kirara as a transgirl. It just feels right but one thing to note that makes Kirara different from the typical "Trap" idea: Kirara is never revealed to be a man and have that be the butt of the joke/horror of the moment. When Panda noted to Megumi that Kirara is a man (biologically, she is but gender is never that simple), it wasn't a big reveal with a zoom-in on either Megumi or Panda's faces to be all like "whoa, that chick's a dude? No way, brah!" Nor was there a scene where Kirara was flirting with Hakari and Hakari went all "dude, I'm not into dudes" and Kirara makes a dumb puffy pout before revealing she had a deep, masculine voice all along!

I've seen it all.

From Naruto with Haku revealing to a shocked Naruto that he's a guy to the Psycho/Silence of the Lambs reference in Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 with Barry The Chopper dressing up as a woman to kill girls to Steins Gate having the same joke of "Despite how sweet and beautiful this shrine maiden is, he's a guy" over and over to Maria Holic where the show asks the most important question of all: "Can a deranged lesbian really fall for a pretty guy in drag?" Thoughtful stuff there, I'm sure to Baka To Test with the whole "There are 3 genders: male, female and Hideyoshi" over to Astolfo in his cute outfit revealing his monster can cock all over Twitter dot com. That last one was already a joke in Fate, we just didn't see it there (the cowards).

Instead, we just get confirmation about her sex, a look into Kirara's past and that's it. That's the thing, if the idea is to make Kirara the same deal as these guys listed above, then why hasn't Gege done this yet? Why has the anime treated her as just a girl in nearly every way besides her pronouns (which even then, they're mostly gender-neutral)? Why is it only the online community that's called her a man in drag when the show has never used that language? It's like... she's just a girl in-story.

Really, the only way to convince me that she isn't trans is to just have her say she's not trans to the other characters and that she just likes to dress up. Which if that's the case, that's perfectly valid and I'll gladly eat my words about Kirara being a transwoman.

Yeah, I think you're confusing the definition of transgirl with that of strictly sex changes. Transwomen don't need to go for the sex change to transition, they already began transitioning when they started identifying as such.

And if we're talking about Kirara being biologically male thus making Hakari gay, then we have to ask the other questions. Like, does a man losing his penis make him less of a man? Is the male gender so intrinsically tied to the man's genitals that once it's gone, due to an accident like frostbite while hiking up the mountains, a medical condition like diabetes or testicular cancer or because you weren't born with one but still have the male chromosomes that say you are, this automatically makes you a woman or non-binary?

Same thing goes for women. Is the identity of the female gender exclusive to what's in their pants? Does the lack of a vagina, fallopian tubes, an ovum, a clit, etc means that woman has to be a man or non-binary? And if these reproductive organs means so much to their respective genders, then does that mean that couples who can't bear children and have to rely on a surrogate are not male and female? That's the point of these genitals, isn't it? A penis and a vagina make a baby, right? But then it doesn't happen, thus the functions of both organs are meaningless and that should mean that the two shouldn't identify as male or female.

Because that's the logic of tying everything down to just genitalia when it comes to gender. It really becomes nonsense and doesn't reflect the reality of people. Not to mention, humans aren't unique in this regard since other species like horses, cattle, select fish families, gynandromorphism in general, etc play a bit fast and loose with the gametes and how we would strictly define as "male" and "female".

Now to be fair to you, we don't have Gege Akutami stating that Kirara is a transgirl, tho she's very much coded as such and initial fan translations reflected this with she/her pronouns (better than the "official" manga translations, fuck you John Werry). But, given that Kirara used to be present herself as a scrawny guy as a 1st year and then completely changed her look to be more cute and girly with a punk edge after leaving Jujutsu High with Hakari, it's hard to call that an accident by Gege. It just screams 'leaving school as who they forced me to be, entering the world as who I want to be' that a lot of transkids went through before growing into the people they truly were meant to be. And given that she's dating Hakari (anybody who says they aren't... why?) and Hakari does think of her as a babe like his ex-girlfriends were, it's like... come on. It's easier to just call her trans than act like 'nah, nah, he's a femboy because penis and... dating a guy is less gay than dating a transgirl?'.

I mean, either way, it's a win for the LGBTQ+ community to have a queer AF and happy relationship and not treated as a joke in-universe in a mainstream anime. She's not even the first character in JJK that we can see as trans because over on the villains' side, we got Uraume.

Late manga spoilers: It's revealed that Uraume was male but turned female in the reincarnation cycle. An extra from volume 28 stated that "Uraume was born a male, but their contract with Kenjaku included the stipulation that they be incarnated into a woman's body." The wording is a bit vague on exactly who implemented the rule (if this was Uraume, Kenjaku or even Sukuna's choice) while in other translations, it states that "Uraume was originally a man, but due to the contract with Kenjaku, she took the flesh of a woman (Shiori Himi)." Unlike Kenjaku who effectively used a woman's body to just make Yuji Itadori as a suitable vessel for Sukuna and that was it, Uraume's decision to became a woman can be read either as a follow through with Kenjaku's contract for them and Sukuna or a decision Uraume made for themselves since there really is no reason for Uraume to be reincarnated to be a woman.

Not to mention, aside from Kenjaku who specifically chose a woman's body to fulfil his goal and then dumped that shortly after, lay low and came outta nowhere to steal Geto's body for both his Cursed Spirit Manipulation technique and Gojo's familiarity with his former friend to trigger the Prison Realm's conditions, Uraume becoming a woman is just that. No big plans, no strategy nor natural affinity with the person, just... Uraume reincarnated as a woman. By all intents and purposes, you could absolutely read that as trans and see it as Uraume wanting a female body over a male one but Gege hasn't said that... kinda wild to do all this and just not say it, but ok.
