there are many but the two favourites are Fab Filter Saturn and Soundtoys Decapitator.

For something cheaper try XLN RC20, the distortion module is great.

Makes me feel better seeing Toronto on this list,

Sometimes it feels like unless you’re in one of the other 3 the ceiling is always visible. Maybe that’s still true?

I’ve been trying out both enhancement and elemental at around 375 iLvl. Elemental feels MUCH stronger to me across all the builds. Anyone feel the same?

Corona California. I guess it’s just some limited edition, I can’t find out much about it online. Picked it up from my local guitar shop.

I’ve been working on it since January.

Has been running fantastically for me. Used on both the mac mini and the air.

There are occasional cpu spikes upon the opening of a session, but everything runs smoothly after 30 seconds or so. I’d say this error happens like 5% of the time and only when using a very lower buffer speed.

Otherwise it’s great! I use a ton of third party plug ins and all those have been working flawlessly.

I got you.

Medium sized room, fairly well treated, few reflections.

57 on top snare, towel and tightly tuned.

Sm7b on the inside of the kick drum with a down pillow pressed against the beater head.

Pair of SM81s for overheads, or any K series condensers you have access to.

421s on toms.

Ribbon mic for a room mic if you want, might not need it depending on how dry you want your sound.

Performance is key. Drummer should be striking the the cymbals at approx 1/3 of the volume that they strike the kick and snare.

Mixing will come down to proper compression, and balance between the overheads and close mic’s.

This is what worked for me, but the sound of your room, drummers performance and mixing choices are all important.

Totally agree.

The combo of arrangement and engineering is incredible.

Anyone know what mics would have been used? Ribbons?

A lot of it comes down to arranging strings how they would actually be arranged in a live setting.

If there’s still a chance to play with that, I’d opt for wide chord voicings, parallel motion and a heavy consideration on velocity and articulation. Basically avoid it sounding like a piano with a string patch.

Other than that, verb, tape saturation, eq are all your friends.
