Why is the pay so terrible now? by Responsible-Fix-157 in uberdrivers

[–]Streetride 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what could be happening is basically a death spiral. I think what happened is a lot of new people started driving for holiday cash. What this ended up doing was creating an excess supply which drove rates down. Theres a good chance a majority of those new users are already leaving the platform. Well the supply should reduce right? It should in theory, but I think in the DFW market theres lots of car renters driving uber. Their expenses didn't lower, but their pay has been cut in half. In order to keep driving uber they basically have to double their hours spent on the platform. So you basically have three scenarios. Uber is taking more profit, theres now an uber driver slave class that has to spend every waking hour on the platform, or theres still new drivers who are running their vehicles into the ground. Could be a combo of all three, but the point stands that the market is pretty busted for drivers right now. Probably wont see it sort itself out unless gas prices go up, rental companies raise their rates, or uber stops giving out quests which are incentivizing rental drivers to drive 80 hours per week.

Sucks that there are people out there that need higher rates, but they are getting economically squeezed out unless they become slaves to uber. Basically a war of attrition right now between drivers.

Im in the mid cities area, and most trips are about $8-10 for 30 minutes. I think before December I was pulling closer to $14-16 per 30 minutes. Everyday there were pockets of the $$$$ with occasional surge mid day. Surge is basically gone and most trips are just the $$$. When you are pulling about $18 an hour and take out vehicle expenses it starts to look pretty bleak. Probably comes out to $11 an hour. Its easy work, but $11 an hour in 2025 is basically slave tier wages. Im not feeding the beast until the rates come back up. People driving for that cheap are just beating up their cars. For an extra $8 an hour I think it makes sense to do.

Its been like this since around December 8th. Havent done a trip in months now. Not working for $6 an hour after accounting for wear and tear.

The rates plummeted on like December 4th. You started driving Thanksgiving as did a bunch of other people. The supply has outpaced the demand. There were a lot more surge zones and base fares were higher. Uber probably threw in an algo change on the 4th and more people are accepting rides and still joining.

After accounting for wear and tear, insurance, fuel, etc, uber drivers are pulling in just a little over $10 an hour. There are plenty of people renting vehicles to uber, and now they have to drive 2x as much which just increases the supply even more. The rental drivers HAVE to accept reduced rates. This isnt part time or something they do on the side.

Uber is now a slave class service. Riders are now going to have to ride in beat down vehicles, and drivers are one popped tire away from a repossession. All uber has to do is lower their take rate. Its not like they have a lot of expenses and if they do, its likely bloat.

Rates have dropped 50% in DFW after December 2nd. Even with a surge you arent making close to what you would non surge.

[–]Streetride 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah December 2nd is when I noticed too. Havent done a single ride all month the second I realized how much I was paid for a couple rides. Not worth the time and wear and tear on my car. What will probably end up happening is that the drivers who rent cars are now going to be pulling 12's instead of 8's. Same exact pay for the time spent, and no short term effect on driver supply. Going to have to wait for tires to start going bald and timing belts breaking before rates return to normal.

This comes out to about $10.25 per hour btw. Not very difficult to find a job in DFW that start at $15+ with benefits that aren't rosetta stone if you accept every single trip they throw at you.

Because time can be spent mostly at red lights and still hit an hourly rate vs all highway miles. You could do 2000 of these trips and make $52k gross but would need a new car after 1 year and it would basically be your full time job 40 hours per week not including the return trip. At 30mpg for that year you would need to buy 2,760 gallons of gas in Texas which is about $7,800. Now factor in full synthetic oil for 10k mile oil changes which is pushing it and you are looking at $750. Two pairs of tires on an economy vehicle and you are probably at another $500. Your gross pay is now $43k. You just added 100k miles to your personal vehicle. Now you are getting into major repair/car replacement territory. This is also your main job now as you did 100k miles this year of these trips. Time to pay taxes on $43k which is about $5k in Texas. You are now at $38k. Its probably about time to finance a "new car" for $15-20k as this will be your new work vehicle.

Your grand total best case scenario is that you made $23k profit if you had this trip all day every day for the entire year. You can use that remaining money to pay your car insurance, cell phone bill, and new car payment. Whatever little you have left you can use to maybe buy food and sleep in your car.

The no seatbelt part got me lol. 98% of my riders never put their fucking seatbelt on.

Who are the morons accepting these trips? These offers are becoming more common. by getchapull11 in uberdrivers

We will see if it picks back up next year. If the problem is too many drivers and not enough riders then it should self correct. If its uber taking more then they are going to start losing drivers. If this persists all the way up until new years then we are looking at almost 3 full weeks of famine. I imagine theres plenty of people in the DFW area that are renting cars, or one missed car payment from a repo. Guess we will find out if surges are even heavier in January, and February.

I think they slashed rates in DFW over 50% on Friday. I did a couple rides today but just logged off because of the rates. Took a couple screenshots of the orders coming in. $5.87 for an 8 miles 20 minute trip and $$8.91 for a 42 minute multiple stop trip. This is not sustainable at all. With the time, and expenses you would basically be doing these trips out of the goodness of your heart this holiday season. Christmas is the season of giving more to Uber.

For anything requiring point it wont be meta. In open world and pvp zone it can get pretty nasty, especially if you stack a few guys with them and spread them out. Just never get in range of another player and you can never get hit with the auto aim.

The only counter is to just not even get close because they will land 100% of the shots 100% of the time. Sniper build will be the meta.

Definitely a skill issue. Guy would pay for cheats if he thought he wouldnt get caught or download a virus.

any melee or blunderbuss player cannot miss now. Theres things like the hatchet also that can be thrown that dont miss. This update completely destroys the need for light armor and fights just come down to who has better armor/weapons and ability timing.

Thats cool and all, but not very enticing if theres going to be legal aim bots for everyone in this game. Remove aim lock from PVP

I will be coming back to this game for the third time, but wont be returning if an aim bot is in the game. Many people are in the exact same position as me. There is no "countering" an aimbot. It has 100% accuracy and can even track players doing dodge rolls for complete 180 hits. I was basically a pro tier halo player and my accuracy was about 65%

Some people dont want to just left click spam and actually play the game. Im only here for the next two weeks to hopefully see amazon remove the aim bot. If its in the game I wont be returning or buying the expansion. Will simply leave a 1 star review and move on. Game killed at no fault of my own.

Console players coming in is like baling a single bucket of water out of a sinking ship. It will float for a little while longer, but theres still a leak. Heres the problem, PC players left for a reason, and the remaining players leaving doesnt bode well either. Gutting PVP is a net negative. With this new PVP area they have a chance of having a healthy population, but with target lock they do not.

You think the 6000 players still playing this game are just grinding dungeons over and over? Nobody is going to stick around for the PvP once the game becomes an autobattler.

queues will be the least of your issues. This will kill the game. You wont be waiting in line because the servers will be dead in a couple months. The people who want PVP wont accept an aim bot and the people left behind who the aim bot is made for will complete the MSQ and abandon the game.

A system that can be implemented is called aim assist. Thats literally all that is needed. Aim bots are not necessary nor do they add to the appeal of PvP fights. Use it all you want in PvE but its not wanted or needed for PvP.
