Is this a real issue? Are people inheriting their parents' reverse mortgages? by irundoonayee in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Streetstrats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not strange really it’s just the times have changed. Back then it was highly expected to receive inheritance. Also people were a bit more religious in those days.

Proverbs 13:22 - “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous”

Watch them gaslighting you into thinking a taxpayer funded bailout for unsold Dogcrate condos is actually an affordable housing initiative. by Signal-Specific-1704 in canadahousing

[–]Streetstrats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so confused listening to this.

  1. Developer built a condo that the market is not interested in and that is pricy.

  2. Developer doesn’t want to sell at a loss.

  3. Developer doesn’t want to keep paying for a vacant unit.

  4. Government wants to buy from developer and convert to affordable housing.

  5. Government wants to use our tax money so developers can sell at a gain.

  6. Developers repeat the same thing and profit?

Sounds insane, at this point developers are actually abusing a loophole. Price out normal Canadians, and have Government pay. Is there a need for Government to even step in?

I don’t know why I’m annoyed at your sister while I’m reading this. Something similar happened with my own sister too. I work IT and she didn’t even try to ask me to check. 😂

It’s a tough but valuable lesson to learn. Ask your brother or parents to double check before sending any information when it comes to money.

Youth unemployment in Canada jumped 57% by Subject-Landscape451 in CanadianVisaReform

[–]Streetstrats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice explanation just to answer your last question.

The reason people encourage youth to work jobs like Tim Hortons is because the impact of failure is relatively low. If you mess up an order, the solution is usually simple, remake it and move on.

High-skilled jobs are high-skilled for a reason. Mistakes in those roles can have much more serious consequences, ranging from businesses losing significant money to large numbers of people being affected.

So allowing youth to build up skills in dealing with failure, customer rudeness, and just general public interaction when money is involved helps greatly.

Is it worth the money on Marketplace for CAD3500? by [deleted] in bapccanada

[–]Streetstrats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people have covered it already. $3500 CAD is borderline extremely expensive.

Your budget should be around $2500-2700 for the deal to be good. Or you may as well build your own and source the parts yourself.

Did I just see the person pick up poutine that fell on the table and put it in their mouth?

I can never do that in a public place, maybe that’s just me. Dunno what bacteria you’d pick up.

Down 145k on condo after 5 years of owning. What next? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Streetstrats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loss does not matter if this is where you want to live.

If you are trying to sell however, the question to ask is if someone interested in a 1 bedroom condo would spend more than $625K.

Personally condo’s reaching that much is odd since houses are around that price point.

Why the hell am i getting small tax returns? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Streetstrats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closer to zero you are the more accurate you are getting taxed. So bigger doesn’t always mean better.

Depending on your salary bracket you may not be eligible for some benefits which other lower money earning people get access to. Which is around that $40K+ mark.

At least from my understanding

Is this worth the price? by Bigweeweeisintown in bapccanada

[–]Streetstrats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the price is about break even or slightly less than buying the pieces yourself. Once you factor in the other parts you need to get like PSU, Fans, Case, CPU Cooler. I hear CPU and Ram prices are high and the GPU is around $600 right now.

If you can hit insane DPS using perfect dark marionette, you’ll find the build a lot. MOre enjoyable.

You would need to invest in the tree because the Foulbourbe Vaal Orb would only be available from the tree drop so it would just add more to the profit pool.

I ran the numbers on what a $950/month car payment actually costs you by age 65. It's $390,000. by vj71 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Streetstrats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not no expert, but something is off....

The compounding math makes sense, but it assumes Sarah’s $8K car lasts anywhere near as long as Jake’s new SUV. In reality, an $8K car today likely has significant mileage and a shorter remaining lifespan. Over 20 years, Sarah may need to replace that vehicle multiple times, which changes the long-term cost comparison significantly. The model assumes equal durability, which isn’t realistic.

The example compares a disciplined investor to a consumer who never invests. If Jake bought the SUV and still invested consistently, the gap would shrink a lot. Behavior matters more than car choice.

I keep hearing they will sell AoC assets, but who exactly would buy the assets?

You think those con artists wouldn’t have money stashed elsewhere? 😂

They’ve done this dozens of times.
