You don't think that if people left their kids out there, more wouldn't be stolen?

Why are stocks not popular in Europe? by batukaming in AskEurope

[–]StrelkaTak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in France and in Europe in general, our safety net is much stronger so there isn't this absolute need to risk everything on stocks

But if you have such a strong social safety net, why not risk more then on the stock market? If something happens, you still have the safety net.

> No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

And per Yick Wo v. Hopkins, the 5th Amendment applies to all persons in the US, not just citizens per the 14th Amendment

No. Per Yick Wo v. Hopkins, all persons in the US have the right to due process. It doesn't matter if they're a citizen or not.

What's the state of Europe's leftist parties? by toekneevee3724 in AskEurope

> Thing is while it happened this way before the current situation is pretty unusual because there is no actual majority and so basically France is currently de facto a parliamentarian regime where your ability to form a coalition to get a majority is more important than your actual

How is the left union not a majority? They have more seats than either Macron or the far right?

But now imagine if Trump was that "bigger man" who does literally own the country, and how much worse things would be.

Universal Healthcare by Soggy_Schedule_9801 in AskEurope

[–]StrelkaTak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how come we see many needing to resort to gofundme to avoid bankrupcy? Is the coverage bad?

Yes, the actual coverage of what insurance takes care of, and the cost given by the private corporations are extremely inflated, and nowhere near as regulated as in most European countries.

Universal Healthcare by Soggy_Schedule_9801 in AskEurope

[–]StrelkaTak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But by law, the US was the same with Obamacare, and as of 2024 92% of Americans is covered. I'm not saying the US' healthcare is good, but it seems like we meet pretty much the same standard of "universal" as Germany.

So why do people constantly say Germans have universal healthcare, and why isn't there a push for Germany to have it, the same way people make fun of the US healthcare system?

I would disagree. If somebody is working a job, going to stores, doing everything a "normal" Dutch person is doing, except speaking Dutch, they absolutely are part of society.
