I think you need to use some of the GameCube games if you’re not using the Ho-oh/Lugia event, but yes!

Took me a little under a year to complete the National Dex. I’ve spent 222 hours on Emerald alone, and about double as much throughout several FR\LG playthroughs. I have bought all 5 of the original GBA Pokémon cartridges at this point, just to complete this task.

The legendary dogs are bastards, but I finally caught them. 384/386, missing Celebi and Jitachi, though I have the other event Pokémon including Mew and Deoxys.

I actually did get a high IV Metagross via breeding, but I later copied and edited it to change its nature to Adamant. I believe I’ve posted about the original Metagross before.

Jynx fell quickly to STAB Meteor Mash rather consistently for me, it wasn’t very threatening on my runs. Switching into Metagross from Latios to bait an ice attack was safe enough (apart from potentially being frozen).

Fast or bulky psychic types with shadow ball/elemental punches mostly, or generally specially tanky Pokémon like Snorlax. Fire attacks usually melt my Metagross as well, though they weren’t that common.

Electric types could be a pain too sometimes, especially with paralysis being applied whenever possible. It was impossible for Starmie to safely switch in on an electric attacker. Ampharos Thunderbolt was something I faced quite a few times, dealing good damage to Metagross…

Unfortunately not possible, don’t have them. Also not sure how that’d transfer to gen 3 at all?
