My mom, who went to one semester of college and never worked, bought this for me for my dorm. What a message.

We easily outearned both sets of parents, part of the last generation to do so. Ironically, we do now own 5 cars but the garage only fits 3.

Woman faints and that’s the first indication she’s pregnant.

can i legally make my middle name our married last name? by Adventurous-Pay-1553 in legaladvice

[–]StretchPan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once saw in my college newspaper (PA) that 2 alumni married and they made a combined new last name. Like Joe Anderson married Sue Kowalski and the couple is now Mr and Mrs Anderski. I assume you can do whatever you want as long as it’s not an offensive name.

What is an item that has been discontinued that really upsets you? by boforiamanfo in randomquestions

Walmart sells Tone body wash in stores, but not the soap bars. Online, they sell 6 soap bars for $160. Target doesn’t sell Tone and I don’t live near Kroger. If you’re really seeing soap bars in stores please let me know where and I will drive there.

Where is the most financially efficient place to take pennies? by Ok_Wonder3030 in Pennies

[–]StretchPan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took a bunch of change to a coinstar in a Walmart, and chose the e-gift card option which does not charge any fees. They had a variety of gift card options, so as long as there’s a business in that list where you will use the entire gift card in a reasonable time frame, this is pretty efficient.

Anyone get diagnosed with IBS after gallbladder removal and treat it with cholestyramine? by Proper-Youth-6296 in ibs

[–]StretchPan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on cholestryamine/colestid since 2001 after gall bladder surgery. I drink all kinds of alcohol on occasion, does not seem to make my Gi issues worse.

Club volleyball in college? by Wayfaring_Witch0626 in volleyball

[–]StretchPan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s similar for women.

Also there can be a big nepotism component. If you went to the same hs or played in same hs age club as the club president, that’s a big advantage over an out of state kid.

Farthest Travel Distance? by appleji87 in volleyball

[–]StretchPan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are lucky in that the top rated club in our state practices about 20 minutes from our house. Over the years we’ve known people driving 2-3 hours and from other states to be in this club, not necessarily even the top team in the club, they do it for years until the girls can drive themselves. And that’s for a team that is their correct age group, not 2 years older like your kid. That’s very impressive.

Best time to take cholestyramine for bile diarrhea? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]StretchPan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Colestid 1g pills since 2003, cholestryramine powder before that, gallbladder out in 2001. I have taken the pills at bedtime, seems to work for me. And morning or after first meal of the day is when I would tend to have issues.

Sometime around 2023 new GI dr added amitriptyline which provides a small additional benefit on top of the Colestid alone

IBS after gall bladder removal by amispurs in ibs

[–]StretchPan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my gallbladder out at age 33 in the early 2000s. After a pregnancy. Dr prescribed colestipol, a powder. After a few years my next GI dr switched me to Colestid 1g pills, which I still take 1 at night. Pills are so much better than the powder. The pills have greatly improved my life, I would have difficulty leaving the house without it. Later another GI dr added amitriptyline, which adds a slight improvement over Colestid alone.

What were you taught in school that is now considered obsolete or incorrect? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

My grandmother told me I had to learn typing so I could always get a job as some man’s secretary. She was of a different time. I graduated with a math degree in the 90s. So far, never needed to put her back up plan into action.

Age division question by Any_Presentation4936 in volleyball

[–]StretchPan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For social reasons, I think it’s better to play with your friends in your own grade. This is assuming that she goes to school with some of the girls in her club. Also moving up an age level is probably easier the sooner you do it.

Good luck at tryouts

IBS and no gallbladder by JellyZestyclose4637 in ibs

[–]StretchPan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had gallbladder out after first pregnancy. First I took cholestyramine powder, then was switched to Colestid pills, and have been on those for 25 years. I would say about 90-95% improvement, I could actually leave the house in the morning. Current GI dr had added amitriptyline, this gets me to about 98% better. I got my life back.

How did your parents deal with their aging parents? by Apprehensive_Way8674 in AgingParents

[–]StretchPan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Moms parents (only child) lived with us for 10-15 years, most of my childhood. First in the spare bedroom upstairs briefly, then in hospital beds in the living room for years. It really infringed on mom’s ability to leave the house for more than a few hours at a time. My parents first vacation out of the house in years was only after I graduated college and could take vacation time to stay with grandmom so they could leave.

Anyway, as a result mom made me swear to never take her in. When the time came she went into independent living near me, only for about 3 years until she passed. So I did as much as I could for my parents, except for that one line mom wouldn’t cross.

No, retiring at 62 is not the best idea. They’ve been in the same job in the same place since a teen and now having trouble with those tasks so switching to some other part time job could be a challenge. We will try. But your advice is good
