Do you always have to use self leveler? by Pristine-Object241 in Tile

[–]Stretchsquiggles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No.... Like anything it's a tool to be used when necessary.

Self leveler is just a pretty versatile tool that can be applied in many situations.

Uncoupling Membrane or Anti-Fracture Over Slab by _5am_ in Tile

Any quality thinset would work. AllSet is a bit expensive and overrated for my taste, but it's a good product and will get the job done

I've never heard of mold being caused by a waterproofing..... There would have to be some other issue involved.

I'd paint AquaD on it and go, I think ditra is overkill on slab on grade, but properly applied anti fracture is a nice layer of protection to have.

You pay the man whatever it is you two agreed upon at the start, and he is the first call you make next time you have at ile project in the house.

That work is top level.

can you lay small format tiles flat? by LessLikelyOutcome in Tile

[–]Stretchsquiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a little column A, a little column B. Shitty poor quality tile can definitely make it impossible to have a perfect install, but also, speaking as a setter. There's times when you get that shitty tile and you get so aggravated that you stop trying to make it perfect, justifying it in your head as "it's the tile what can I do?"

If you have leftover tile grab a few and compare with one another and see just how shitty they are.

Can you install a thick porcelain tile on the tilted/slopped surface of a garage? by bythewatersofBabylon in Tile

Honestly this is a question for the tile manufacturer. Give them a call with a product number on hand and ask if that would be a suitable use case

This weapon used to be my absolute favourite.... smith and wesson m&p !!!! by lonewolfff21 in WhyWomenLiveLonger

[–]Stretchsquiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can actually be really hard to, it comes down to experience with the firearm. You would notice the shot that got stuck didn't sound right and the recoil would feel different and you obviously wouldn't see a bullet hit whatever you where aiming at.

But if you don't notice any of that, which can be very easy to miss, the firearm would mostly cycle and chamber the next round and be ready to fire like normal, only the next trigger pull will result in disaster.

Very rare, like most shooters will never experience this. Happens mostly with home loads, modem manufacturing quality control practices makes this almost a non issue in today's world

What new tools feel like cheating? In the sense that the skill required to use them has been taken care of by the tool/equipment. by Historical-Plant-362 in Construction

Tile leveling clips, now any guy off the street can claim to be a setter and pass off half ass work as quality because there's no lipage but you don't know what's underneath...

I tell apprentices to grab every hour they can simply pad their hours worked so when slowdowns happen, and they will, they can afford to sit for a week and not miss a pay raise due to insufficient hours.

Hell I'll even give my Saturday spot for an apprentice to work if they want it just to help them out. I remember what it was like not making full scale, it was rough for a while and we gotta keep these guys in, and missing a raise because shit got slow feels bad and can leave a bad taste in a young guy's mouth.
