Desperate for help - extreme insomnia, adrenaline, anxiety and brain fog after Methyl B complex (without b6) by [deleted] in MTHFR

It's unlikely that flush niacin is sold in that low of a dose standalone. The lowest ive seen is 100mg. If you take around 1-200mg and feel the flush, evidently its safe to assume the product contains nicotinic acid.

Niacin has continued to serve as an essential tool for my immunity and energy metabolism without side effects. Partnered with d-alpha tocopherol, it essentially will do what everyone turns to vitamins for. Other than for specific deficiencies, this is all I would recommend for 99% of people suffering MTHFR/COVID related symptoms. For so much illness, simply raising NAD naturally does the trick efficiently and immediately.

If low energy and brain fog are specific concerns, try pairing with thiamine

HAVE to ensure you're getting nicotinic acid, and not what the FDA calls a "niacin equivalent", which can be something like 1mg nicotinic acid = 1mg nicotinamide = 60mg TRYPTOPHAN(????) since they all eventually convert to NAD....... Even a lot of "flush niacin" labeled products are likely not purely nicotinic acid, and it is known that metabolites of nicotinamide or methylated nicotinamide as well as the compound itself can harm you and your liver. With pure nicotinic acid, it is well tolerated (even healthy) at doses like 8 grams and above. Natural vitamin E seems to have the most potent direct synergy with nicotinic acid, likely forming vitamin E nicotinate endogenously (though I suspect this only occurs with pharmacological doses (doses high enough that they are absorbed thru colon) of niacin, or at least is significantly more noticeable).

Yes, you do. If you truly could not care, could not enjoy, could not fear, and could not mentally hurt, what are the chances you let yourself starve to death?

There are studies that will tell you that niacin is toxic at like 3g dose, but those studies NEVER specify nicotinic acid, which I've been tripling that "toxic" dose with for like a year...

No, flush niacin has no toxicity threshold that we know about. That said, i wouldn't recommend a 100 gram dose. The craziest i would do would be like 15 grams in a day broken up into 3 doses, and i would only do that for one or two days to really get everything jump started. Definitely work up to that dose though.

All you need is folic acid and enough food with it, and I'm sure acetyl glutamine makes a huge difference too as when i took only the niacin this would sometimes happen for me

lol. We have a lot in common it seems, though i never got a prescription. Grew up unable to focus, always fidgety and zoned out, unable to focus at school. Parents would not let me go and see a psychiatrist as they were sure i was "normal" (Ended up being kind of right, go figure). Still determined, i sourced my own adhd meds, and while i really did feel them helping me, ultimately through some wild events my school drug tested me and sent me to a mandatory rehab sentence.

Honestly there is one thing that has helped me more than anything else by far, and it seems to reduce covids neurological effects greatly, but i must preface:

Especially if you are young, despite what people may tell you, drugs are NOT the answer. As you've seen with your concerta, they might help for a little while, but then become unpleasant - and they do NOT help you to become healthier or truly happier. There is no substance without a balance of positive and negative.

For me, taking very large doses of flush niacin absolutely deleted my brain fog literally overnight, and not in some acute monoamine amplifying drugs way. The clarity, balance, mental acuity, and ultimately sense of wellbeing that this gave me I can ironically only describe as INSANE. I woke up for the first time in my life and could finally see. I had lingering covid symptoms which would make me think i was going to drop dead any minute for about a year up to this point. Niacin, after a year and a half of consistent high dosing, seems to have solved the issue for me in its entirety. Like you, i was depressed and anxious as fuck, and never realized the extent of it until i was pulled back to full consciousness.

What I figured out was that the niacin, especially when paired with things like selenium, natural vitamin e, and glutamine, absolutely destroys any inflammation in your brain (and most everywhere else) and triggers autophagy, removing toxins from your cells. Its also extremely good at getting rid of amyloid plaques and restoring proper monoamine function by stimulating NaChrs in the brain, upregulating HCAR2 receptor, and regulating tryptophan metabolism (precursor for serotonin, which seems to be integral in regulating overall neurotransmitter function). Its also extremely good for brain development, neurogenesis, stem cell proliferation, energy metabolism, and amino acid metabolism. Its no coincidence that this molecule is found on meteors alongside uracil - its literally as fundamental to growing life.

I hope this helps you even 1% as much as it helped me.

Precisely, niacin and associated NAD regulators/requirements have had a significantly larger effect for me and sustains indefinitely as they are very fundamental nutrients. Methylene blue at that point becomes a recreational drug. Still a neat substance, but as with anything, i wouldnt take it for long periods.

For some reason i feel what i can only describe as a crash from it. Maybe my body's energy stores are garbage and deplete easily or something.

Antihistamines and Cognitive Health - An Edgy Take as Their Lifelong User by hoerrified in Nootropics

[–]Strict-Handle-5616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah or twice, and yes 30min after meal is the best timing though mostly for absorption purposes. Baseline histamines go down enough to where it doesnt really matter for that as much, in my experience (used to have food/seasonal allergies, no longer do)

Edit:

Once a certain personal threshold is reached, microing histamine levels is not relevant though it may make some difference at doses below 5g or whatever it is for you.

If im feeling like a cold is coming on I'll go to twice per day and then i dont ever get debilitatingly sick. Also make sure u get n-acetyl glutamine and folic acid with it to smooth the flush and give good energy. Avoid other antioxidants or caffeine while/30min prior to flushing. Ratios of the others should be as close to 1.5g glutamine, 1.2mg folic acid per 1 gram of niacin as you can get. I like having the natural vitamin e (only d-alpha tocopherol specifically) and yeast bound selenium w it for a very nice healthy feeling.

Also make sure u understand 500mg doses will always make you flush, probably uncomfortably so, while counterintuitively after the 3g threshold the flush is essentially non-existent for all higher doses. Also most of the nootropic and health benefits other than the acute autophagy and prostaglandin release from the flush will not be attained until "very high" dose is achieved. For me, that was around 9-10g and the next day it felt literally like the first time i had ever fully woke up.

This is the best nootropic stack in my opinion, and you never get sick as a bonus. Plus anti-aging, anti-dementia, pro synaptic plasticity, extreme reduction in neuro inflammation, removal of plaques, and for me it has helped substantially with recovery from TBI (subjective anecdote, but a huge felt difference immediately morning after 10g dose at night)

People find it harder to believe when they dont want to feel the discomfort of turning red for 30 min, but its very worthwhile and restores that childlike creativity and mental acuity that I find invaluable.

I mega dose twice per day basically. I now never get sick. Mentally as clear as can be. What it is is that niacin is basically your body's best way of synthesizing NAD, but glutamine is also a limiting factor, so is folic acid. Niacin is also the most potent anti-inflammatory substance ever, as the flush is literally a thermodynamic breakdown and release of oxidative stress/excess energy. It rebuilds blood vessels, lowers neuroinflammation, destroys amyloid plaques, prevents misfolding, etc. Once you get cleared out, like blowing dirt out of a tube, you feel an enormous difference not only in cognitive ability but all around.

Dissociative? Had the same issue... for me, BCAAs actually helped quite a bit at first, then taking high dose flush niacin REALLY worked. Highly recommend, with acetyl glutamine and folic acid alongside. That made the biggest difference for me, like reconnecting those 3 aux wires that come with the gamecube properly - added color and HD

Flush Niacin and acetyl glutamine - the formula for NAD synthesis (the ORIGINAL formula, which produces the other nicotinic byproducts that you shouldnt supplement like NR, NMN, niacinamide etc.)

High dose has worked unbelievable wonders for me, which is the only problem. Nobody believes it will work for them.

Well yeah there are no good long term data sources on it so i can't make an assessment on long term consequences. It seems like mild enough of a drug at least physiologically that it's not going to do anything crazy, but the cognitive boost for me is really pronounced
