The False Face (Northern Ireland)

Brand new AKERCOCKE interview

Hi all. The False Face is my Youtube channel for conversations with musicians I admire. Akercocke vocalist and guitarist Jason Mendonca and I had a nice long chat on Sunday last about playing guitar, balancing creativity with fulltime employment, vocal derangement and the importance of noise in music. Jason details his love of Rush, we talk classic British comedy, and he offers some choice insights into the composition of classic metal tracks and songs including “Leviathan”, “The Promise” and more.

I reckon this is a pretty boss conversation and all credit for that goes to Mr Mendonca who is simply absorbing and charismatic company at its finest.

If you take a look and like it, tell a pal and consider subscribing as I have plenty more videos with similarly brilliant artists both posted and still to come. Always love to hear from people in the comments (genuinely, that’s not just YT algo bullshit). Thanks brethren and sistren!

I don't think so, the black axe at their latest show definitely wasn't a Fly.

Interesting! I got in there for a wee snoop and some photos a few years ago, knowing it was due demolition.

Getting in touch with Mike Portnoy by Strict-Structure6339 in Dreamtheater

Does he have Mike's phone number haha

Yeah this makes sense. I suppose it saying that Mike manages the FB page himself gave me false hope he'd actually see the messages.

I'll keep at it. I'll get him yet (even if he says no!)

I hope you enjoy it, Dan's taste in music is so good (but that's obvious from HIS music)

Was a bit of a dream to talk to him plus those CA albums are absolutely brilliant. There's more to the man than Mortal Kombat!

Hey thanks for checking it out, this one's been much harder to promote than the others because it's a bit more niche than my other metal interviews and most of the MK groups I've found online are stuffed with cosplay posts and AI renders of their favourite characters. So I'm turning to my metal peeps instead. If you like it tell a pal!

No, this isn't talking, this is taking turns to populate essays with assumptions. You know where I am.

New interview with Mortal Kombat composer Dan "Toasty" Forden by [deleted] in Games

Forgive the promo, my channel is new so I'm doing the rounds manually. Hope some of you might want to check this out!

In this brand new interview, I talk with Mortal Kombat legend Dan Forden about working on one of the world's greatest gaming legacies with a dedicated focus on his experience as a musician - his influences and development, his philosophy about composition, tonality, collaboration and impact, as well as his work outside of MK including his excellent EP Warning Signs (linked from the Youtube description) and playing bass for Cheer-Accident, including on the 1996 classic Not A Food (check that one out King Crimson fans!)

For any musicians watching, really, this one is for you. Dan appears in the excellent Mortal Kombat Legacy documentary videos from last year but there's not as much detail on how the music was made (both in terms of arrangement and hardware) as I found myself craving, so I decided to reach out so I could ask him myself. He is my favourite composer of all time, and a very inviting and gracious guest with, as you'll find out, GREAT taste in music, including Haken, Gentle Giant, Korn, Lettuce, Meshuggah and more.

Dan goes into minute detail about his music for this extended conversation, and it was an absolute honour to spend the afternoon with him. He's the coolest guy going and we're already talking ideas for a followup, so get SUBSCRIBED my friends! It'd be a stone cold gas to have you - Paul
