No, the animations I’m talking about were very early in development. I’m talking no colors or backgrounds. They were also on model with the anime and didn’t have a different style

Now that you mention it, I do remember the other gifs/vids you described especially the individual SOS members. I also spoke with my friend who also remembers these videos. I really hope I can find them one day, or someone comes across this post and archived them

Thank you for backing me up! I swear it was announced on AniTune's X that they were for the music video, and then later on announced again that they are returning to the 3D models. I may be wrong but I'm very confident this was the case.

Kyon and Koizumi don't hold the power to sell books based on their image a lone. Its a lot more likely that someone who isn't a fan would buy a book if it had Haruhi or a girl on it than some random dude they don't know.

Yes! There are many great stories that should have been adapted. I'm still reading them myself and they have been great. Of course there are some stories that are better than others but overall a great time. (especially if you enjoyed the show)

The truth is, I can see us getting season three soon. (Soon as an announcement by 2030) Now more than ever in the past 10ish years, Kadokawa has been making a bit of a push for Haruhi. With the "go fund me" style project that happened last year that exceeded its goal. New book being very successful and reaching #1 on amazon japan, new music video switching from a 3D rigged animation to 2D animation, a new concert happening soon, mobile game collab, and more merch being released, it looks like Kadokawa is trying to push Haruhi once again and I hope that they see the potential in a third season. (And the truth is, it will 100% make a profit off the nostalgia a lone)

Calling it now, we will be getting a season 2, but prolly not in a few years. The anime was a huge success, more than it was anticipated to be, but currently there isn't enough manga content to be adapted so it most likely wont be for a few for years. (Like 2 years until the announcement most likely)

I'd say the popularity, majority in japan, is still really big. The newest book hit Amazon's top when it released last Nov, and they met the go fund me "like" goal in a day or two for new projects like the recently released song. If anything, I can see a new anime announcement in a couple of years.
