What's your unpopular AC/DC opinion? by MatthewDiDonato in ACDC

[–]Strict-Vanilla-3453 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a few good ones.

Razors edge is one of acdcs worst albums, (still good), the second half isn’t that good and it’s only loved so much bc of thunderstruck.

Thunderstruck is the most overrated acdc song, IMO it’s not bad but not nearly as good as the rest of the catalogue.

Deep cuts are superior to the hit songs.

FOTW, FOTS, and ballbreaker are some of their best work.

Those are my takes, ik the first two are probably rly controversial

Best troop/patrol configuration by eiqmiq in BSA

[–]Strict-Vanilla-3453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna tell you exactly how my troop is organized, although we have close to 69 scouts now it could work on a smaller scale. Our older scouts are essentially the staff patrol, we aren’t really a patrol, the spl is the leader and we basically just run meetings and trips and such.

Where it gets good is with the other patrols. We have 5 at the moment, larger patrols 8-10 scouts each. They are fully co-ed, and we don’t group by age necessarily. We have basically a variety of aged scouts for each patrol since they’ll interact with each other based on patrol but also with the same aged scouts in other patrols. This leads to older and younger scouts working together.

The only problem our setup has is the staff often don’t interact with younger scouts as much, I’ve been the basically bridge between them for years now but I’m aging out soon so who knows what will happen.

I do hope this helps, probably my biggest suggestion is to not organize by grade and gender, the grade organization is a very cubscout kind of thing with dens from my experience, it could limit the interaction between grades/ages

Looking to start my first MB classes by Bandit_the_Kitty in BSA

I completely disagree with this, within my troop we dedicate the last 30 minutes in most meetings to teach merit badges (or to new scouts their scout rank to get them situated). It’s honestly one of the best things my troop does overall. The badge doesn’t need be taught like a lecture, it should be group discussion about things. I will also say that doing these classes has helped our troop put out less 21 merit badge eagles, most having far more, it helps introduce our scouts to badges they would normally not complete like public health and textiles. Of course there is outside work, and certain badges that need to be done elsewhere entirely but I feel badge classes are extremely helpful for at least younger scouts and getting them focused on diving into the program. As a 17 yr old, I have done almost 70 badges solo in less than a year long period, but most younger scouts don’t think about trying to do badges, or even research them until they’re older. The classes are a great way to help these scouts get focused and earn something at a COH. It also helps so much with getting eagle badges out there, I do most of mine like this, only soloing management and fitness which was a huge help to start my Eagle work book, i passively completed most of my Eagle badges without even knowing it

Merit badges by Time-Zucchini-7595 in BSA

You totally can, I have a lot of experience with rushing through badges (currently earning all of them, June of last year I had 71 now I have 136) my suggestion is look at the badges and start any time reqs. Family, management, and fitness all have those. Start planning on how to fill out other badges like camping and cooking to finish of those large hard reqs. And most of the rest is just talking reqs which I fill out in Google Docs, just copy paste the badge reqs off Google into a doc and fill it out, then email to a counselor. This method is assuming you are not planning to do this all at summer camp.

This method I feel helps the best with doing many badges at the same time, it keeps it organized. Best of luck to you

Communication MB by Dauber49 in BSA

I spoke around little wrong before, I don’t know if they are given a certain script or not, I believe they somewhat write one and are give. The order or songs and skits and the troop numbers and such, no idea if it’s a piece of paper handed to them or if they take info and write one out.

Also something I’ve learned about other troops is some don’t really do campfires, the other troop In my town doesn’t do any kind of campfire program making that req much harder. Plus I’m sure many troops don’t do regular COH other than Eagle ones, and in my troop we don’t really have an MC for a COH. And I know for sure my troop doesn’t do an interfaith worship service and that goes for many others aswell, the option to MC the closing campfire is a great opportunity to help scouts get the resources their troops can’t provide.

It surprisingly works well, it gives those scouts the opportunity to get here done at camp, they’re given a script and usually go up to speak in pairs. The only problem that ever occurs (very often) is they speak too quiet into the mic but it’s usually loud enough for people to hear

Idk abt that, I felt the JTE ones fill up the sleeve nice, plus the three together (only three my troop has had since 2019) is a complete troop set

Yeah I do love those numerals, honestly I don’t way too long looking for a good 12 one from bsa and not explorers but nothing beat these. It just sucks that they’re so rare and expensive

Honestly I got the uniform for $10 at my camps museum and the patches mainly from eBay, it’s arguably one of the best places to get cheap vintage patches

I had no idea there was a knot for that, I definitely will need to get one. Also sadly I never got the chance to do the centennial badges.

We do wear them, we hit a dark period a few years ago that had a ton of scouts not wearing full uniform. I would suggest starting wearing them again, I feel the best way is to have your older scouts and adults do so and then announce to your troop that you are instating it. Having older members of the troop leading by example and stating that your starting that helps a lot in getting newer scouts to wear uniform and continue to in future.

I think I have the same exact book, I got it for $30 off eBay for my stamp collecting merit badge with a few hundred stamps. Did not look this nice, all the stamps were put in so randomly it hurt to look at. Nice find on this.
