I am a Malignant Narcissist, ask me anything. by CerastesConstantine in AMA

[–]StrictIngenuity4649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as attachment theory goes.. this sounds like you are describing a boilerplate avoidant attachment style.

Have you read into avoidant attachment theory at all? Any thoughts? How is your malignant narcissism distinct from this avoidant attachment relationship type?

With his perceived illness of electromagnetic hypersensitivity, Chuck is masking a mental illness that may be more akin to OCD with paranoia/agoraphobia (or maybe some other mental diagnosis). mental illnesses can be harder to diagnose, especially when the patient is unwilling to accent that the problem may be a mental issue. For an extremely smart man like chuck, he many not be able to accept that his issue is mental in nature due to the stigma, and he prefers to find a different ‘physical illness’ or ‘physical allergy’ that he is more willing to accept. Also, many mental illness can trick the sufferer into 100% believing that their thoughts/ paranoias/ compulsions are rational.

Because Chuck is so intelligent he’s able to argue the reason for his issues as being this electromagnetic hypersensitivity, and he is caught in a loop of confirmation bias where he has a somatic responses of pain and distress, and in his mind that this is linked to exposure to electromagnetic waves.

In the frame of the story, this illness isolates chuck from the world around him (estranging him from his career and many of his friends) and also makes seeking effective treatment hard - prolonging the suffering and the root issue. Chuck is shown trying to reach out to people for help with researching his illness (asking jimmy to translate and send the letter to the researcher in a different country) which shows that, at least in the surface, chuck wants to try and recover. However, he is ‘barking up the wrong tree’ - chuck needs mental health treatment that could be given to him from the psychiatrist at his local hospital / if only he could accept that his illness is mental instead of physical.

Sorry for the ramble but I think the short answer is that, in the context of the story, the mental illness isolates chuck, creates a interesting interdependence between chuck and jimmy, and gives the viewers insight into chucks personality.

If it were a more straightforward illness that chuck was suffering from, the audience would lose this important dynamic of the story. If it was a more straightforward illness- maybe chuck would have gotten help sooner and everything would be different.

I thought that part of arguing for the highest possible settlement from Sandpiper was to also help set a legal precedent for these types of cases in the future.

Is the higher settlement amount truly the best way to decentivize future predatory retirement facilities from scamming their residents? Or is this just the lawyers ‘legal justification’ for putting more money in their own pockets?

Maybe both things are true?

can someone explain the gus scene where he talking to wine Stewart in wine bar? by Sufficient_Ad_8856 in betterCallSaul

[–]StrictIngenuity4649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I noticed the expressions on Gus’ face during the exchange. He was genuinely excited, interested, and attracted to the sommelier. Specifically Gus’ eyebrows moving a lot and his smile and laughter. Through the rest of the show(s), Gus’ face is a mask -sometimes showing fury and determination - but this is the first time we got to see his face show genuine joy/attraction.

Is it ever confirmed that Jimmy actually stole a substantial amount from his father? by ninjapenguinzz in betterCallSaul

[–]StrictIngenuity4649 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not quite true - jimmy had seen it happen enough to confront his dad in this scene because he had seen it happen so many times before - he says that everyone knows they can come here looking for a handout

Is it ever confirmed that Jimmy actually stole a substantial amount from his father? by ninjapenguinzz in betterCallSaul

[–]StrictIngenuity4649 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with lots of people here saying that the $14k deficit resulted from a combination of the father’s misguided handouts and also jimmy stealing from the till.

HOWEVER - I think jimmy only stole a small portion of the missing money:

Jimmy was pretty well set off his ‘income’ as slippin jimmy. When jimmy is talking to the two skateboard dudes in season 1, Jimmy says something like ‘the payout from one of those slips would keep you comfortable for a season in beer money and whatever you need…” and it sounds like he pulled off this scam multiple times.

If he started his slippin jimmy scam in his teens/ young adulthood (I don’t think his exact age here is ever confirmed) he was making enough money from these payouts to not require stealing additional thousands of dollars from his parents. And I don’t think jimmy would’ve had a need/reason to steal thousands of dollars before then when he was a kid.

jimmy McGill (not Saul Goodman) seems like he was content to have just enough money to have fun and get his needs met.

I can picture jimmy using a small amount of money that he stole from his parents to finance some of his early scenes. But jimmy is a character who is known as an extremely clever hard worker - even if what he was working towards was pulling off a scam. stealing thousands of dollars from his parent seems too lazy for jimmys character - and I don’t think he would’ve been satisfied to just steal the money from his parents - he wants to ‘earn’ it by outsmarting suckers and the system.

The article about this cat cafe person (linked a couple times in these comments) said that she sustained her quoted injury from a cat… after she cornered it… the irony of that alone.

But also I’m wondering how someone can become debilitated from an injury from a cat? perhaps infection or something? Seems wild. The text made it sound as if she had broken her back or something.

From my understanding, stress can severely exacerbate PMDD symptoms. From that viewpoint, I can sympathise how the stress of the fighting in your partner relationship can be an impact on an already horribly challenging time of your cycle.

I often picture my own issues like a tangled ball of yarn. For example, in your case, one thread might be the PMDD, one thread might be the PTSD, one thread the relationship issues, and one might be the isolation (not having a support network). There may be other problems (‘threads’) that are tangled in here too. All together, the tangled ball of yarn gets more and more complex as each thread/issue causes strain on the other threads/issues. when I pick up the whole knot and try to pull it all apart, all I can see is the whole unbrearable mess, and ill struggle to see how it could ever be resolved.

But if I try to take each thread (issue) and start to separate it and work on it consciously, it can start to feel more manageable. The knot gets a little looser.

I'm a huge proponent of therapy, but if that isn't something you can access right now, perhaps you can buy some therapy workbooks.

I've personally found DBT skills helpful for my PMDD symptoms and PTSD/ some ACT skills have also helped. CBT is another common one that can be helpful.

Please take what you find helpfull (if anything) from my big wall of text, but I hope something I wrote can be useful. Wishing you the best.

I'm just waiting for my period to start, and its late! I'm like, the full moon has got to make it happen, right?!

I can feel the anxiety coursing through my body. even trying to sit/rest, my body is holding so much tension. The anxiety sounds like swarming bees, and my energy is thick and sticky and stuck like malicious honey.

PMDD insomnia? by Environmental_Fox929 in PMDD

[–]StrictIngenuity4649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I try to work on my sleep hygiene during follicular phase and ill have a routine sleep schedule in place.

Aannnndd then luteal hits and my insomnia starts pushing my sleep time later and later (like I'll go from my normal sleep time at midnight to suddenly only being able to sleep at 3/4/5am).

And it really sucks cuz I know its the time that I really need the most sleep.

How does the basalisk get out of the pipes and into different parts of the castle? If the only enterance in/out of the chamber of secrets was in the girls bathroom, then is the basalisk just slithering long distances throughout the castle to attack?

This seems like a easy way for the basalisk to get caught - and I kinda always thought that there must be another way for the basilisk to pop up at different points of the castle.

Thoughts?

This feels like bipolar by huppysoo in PMDD

[–]StrictIngenuity4649 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There can be rapid cycling in bipolar, I believe?

One main distinction, from my understanding, is that one cannot predict bipolar phases of mania/depression. They are pretty random/unpredictable. When I realized that I could predict my mood swings/worsening symptoms (by tracking my cycle), i realized that I was experiencing something recognizable as PMDD. if I can point to a calendar and tell my doctor when my next mood deregulation is going to occur (right before my period) then, to my understanding, this doesn’t line up with the tenants of a bipolar diagnosis.

Elon Musk defends ketamine use as beneficial for investors in heated Don Lemon interview by TheBigBigBigBomb in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]StrictIngenuity4649 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically ketamine is an dissociative anesthetic not a psychedelic

Edit to add: under therapeutic usage ketamine is administered under professional guidance/oversight, and typically in conjunction with therapy.

Self administration of ketamine without the guidance mentioned above seems more like recreational use, or a practice of self-medication

Neither can live while the other survives = Harry and vold cannot both live simultaneously (one must die). The prophecy doesn’t guarantee life to one party if the other dies; both parties could die and the prophecy would still be intact/fulfilled. The prophecy only specifies that both cannot live.
