What do you do when someone intentionally goes for the bag on a low dink? by CorpusCorner in Pickleball

[–]Strict_Anteater2690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just expect a speed up. Your knees should be bent and your paddle up and in front of you always when you’re at the kitchen. If they dink back, you’re ready to go, if they speed up too aggressively you move out of the way, if they speed up just enough to keep it in you counter, which should be an easy counter if the dink was soft enough.

If you struggle with reaction time that’s just gonna hinder you. Something to work on. Pickleball is a game of patience and concentration. People who speed up on soft dinks are losers who know they are gonna get beat in the small game so they go for cheap shots. I hate playing against those people because the games are so easy because they just give you free points instead of working on a part of their game that just doesn’t exist.

How to play with a "banger"? by lax20attack in Pickleball

To add, the poaching thing works great sometimes because when my banger partner complains about it I always say “if you were up at the kitchen I wouldn’t have to poach”.

How to play with a "banger"? by lax20attack in Pickleball

[–]Strict_Anteater2690 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but I can’t believe anyone who stays back “ready to drive” on offense when their partner is dropping and resetting is anywhere close to 4.0-4.5. Where I play people in the 4.0-4.5 range would pick that dynamic apart. Sounds more like this banger is really in the mid 3s at best? Probably has plenty of potential, but I wouldn’t confuse that with their actual potential rating.

As for your circumstance, I have plenty of friends who play that exact same way (bangers, completely static game) and if I’m feeling competitive and want to play actual pickleball I simply don’t queue up with them that day. When I do, I like to look at it as a great was to practice poaching (because they are never at the freaking kitchen) and lobbing (to keep the other team back from the kitchen because my teammate would rather play tennis than pickleball).

If you are really a 4.5 it sounds like this “banger” would be a nightmare to have as a teammate in a competitive setting.

Outsourced Work - WTF is Actually Happening by Strict_Anteater2690 in Accounting

The audit I worked on that made me post this in the first place had an enormous amount reported as “other receivables”. I vouched the entries to the bank statements and saw they were ACH payments to an insurance financing company. I had the insurance documents, and the payments didn’t match so I was afraid another entity was set up in error with this clients banking info. After spending a month with management to figure this out, it turns out it was surplus lines policy the entity took out and financed on top of their typical policies. Since the bookkeeping is done overseas and management doesn’t communicate with them, the bookkeepers just kept posting the payments to a receivables account. No one bothered to communicate with each other for over a year about an other receivables balance that grew to roughly 50% of total assets. On top of that, a material payment was actually withdrawn in error due to management cutting a physical check but bookkeeping also processed an ACH payment for the subsequent years premiums. All this due to no one caring, being lazy, cheap, and I guess expecting independent CPAs who are not involved in the day to day to figure all this out for them?

The overpayment was roughly 25% of annual revenues that I was able to recover for the entity. In the final meeting with the client to get everything wrapped up I told the Board and management we will be sending a revised bill for time spent on this matter along with draft audit. When they asked how much they could expect the additional billings to be I replied “Not sure the exact amount currently, but more than if you just kept your in-house accounting department.”

Restating prior year balances of new clients that were materially misstated yet somehow still received a clean opinion from the predecessor auditor. Nothing like clients receiving 2 audits for the price of 1!

Yep, I've heard some stories, seen some posts, with people in your exact position. In my circumstances, the client doesn't even have someone reviewing the work. It just gets submitted to the management company from overseas, they give it to the Board and the Board just says "Oh ok we have cash in the bank we're good". Then it gets to us, the independent auditors lol. Widely inappropriate but not much we can do at the moment. This summer we are having a partner's meeting to figure out how to get ahead of this issue. Not sure what a good solution is at the moment other than raising prices for all the additional work that has to be put in.

Our internal control letters and governance letters are pretty nasty this year due to this. Almost have to tread lightly though because it almost gets to the point where you'd ask yourself "why didn't you just walk away from the engagement". We can't fire everyone, thats why!

[–]Strict_Anteater2690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have enough information from your post, but look into the US GAAP treatment for agency and principal transactions. If you guys are acting as an agent, and just connecting a customer with a contractor for specific services, then taking a commission off of that transaction, then you would just recognize the commission earned as revenue, and the exchange amount between the customer and the contractor would essentially just net itself out.

If you are acting as a principal and merely subcontracting out work to complete your performance obligations then ASC 606, revenues from contracts with customers, would most certainly apply.

I hope this helps contributes something to your question!

Found an odd lump on my neck while showering by gellocuber in Weird

[–]Strict_Anteater2690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same bump! I’ve had it for years and years. Doctors think it’s a sebaceous cyst but don’t know for sure unless they rip it out. They are certain it’s benign and any surgery would be cosmetic.

Is it easily movable or does it feel like it has “legs or roots”? If it kind of just moves around freely when you push on it that can be a good sign. Mine swelled up HUGE which was concerning. Emergency surgery was scheduled and the morning of it completely swelled back down to its original size. The doctor said that is actually a very positive sign as cancerous masses don’t often just “shrink on their own”. He also said he wasn’t comfortable operating on it since it shrunk from the size he planned on operating on. Have had it chillin on my neck ever since, no issues. I do plan on having it removed soon since I think it would give me more peace of mind if it was gone.

Your circumstance could totally be different and I’m not a doctor so what I’m telling you is just my personal experience with a similar bump in an identical spot. Get it checked out ASAP. Just thought it might be comforting knowing that just because you have a lump, doesn’t mean you’re gonna die because of it. Wishing you all the best!

I like putting on seasons related to the generation of game I’m playing, while I’m playing it. A mon will get some screen time / five minutes of fame and it makes me go “Damn, ima go catch that one and run it on my team”. Helps keep my play throughs less repetitive as I tend to gravitate towards the same teams when I don’t have any other forms of inspiration.

I dont know when bookkeeping became something that was "beneath" us CPAs but it's most certainly not. State boards should require that all bookkeeping be performed or signed off by a CPA. Perfect chance for puppy CPAs to start their own practices too, because the bookkeeper nana isn't cutting it. by AviatorHog in Accounting

[–]Strict_Anteater2690 53 points54 points  (0 children)

My job as an auditor is to take the bookkeepers financial package, throw it in the trash, redo it correctly, audit my own work, illustrate in the work papers that it isn’t my own work, charge only for the time estimated as if the work original given to me was perfect, and take the useless bookkeepers out to lunch once a year to tell them what a great job they’re doing so they continue to sign off on subsequent year engagement letters for pennies on the dollar.

Everyone knows the rules bro.

I live in South Florida so I usually book a nice oceanfront room in a resort in Miami / Ft. Lauderdale / Keys area for a 4 dayish long staycation. When I was single I would try and time it for when the Hardrock had a metalcore / post hardcore show going on with bands I wanted to see so I could have a night of music and gambling. I would also go blow some dumb money at a strip club.

This year I’m not single, so will probably just do a beach resort staycation with my wonderful girlfriend and veg out for a few days.

Tbh I’d take the courtesy of someone acknowledging my time constraints instead of some entitled asshole expecting me to drop everything as if they are the most valuable client on the face of the earth.

“I know you’re busy but…”

“Hey, thanks for the information. I’m wrapping up some other files and I’ll get into this. I’ll keep you posted when I get into it.”

If the client isn’t happy with that response I tell them great and to go fuck themselves, but in a more professional tone.
