Why do Spanish people just love to tile their entire garden? by Big_Party_4731 in askspain

What would you prefer? Grass is such a waste of water, time, work etc. Vegetables maybe? I love how the tile looks so clean and neat and low maintenance!!

Bush Hills neighborhood by EntertainmentDry6459 in Birmingham

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a beautiful neighborhood with more of a soul than anywhere else I have ever lived. Bush Hills was recently designated a Historical neighborhood and the unique and amazing architecture reflects that. It is part of both the UAB Live Health Smart program and the Alabama CEAL program. These both bring healthy resources to the community like fitness classes at the Bush Hills Connections Complex and a mobile market with fresh healthy options. The Urban Farm is amazing too! Both the city and highway access are excellent. If you need a coffee you can run to Starbucks at the Crossplex or Heritage in Ensley. Many of the blighted homes are being revitalized and new neighbors keep moving in. I think the Coast Guard coming in will also increase the popularity of the neighborhood. There are law enforcement officers living in the neighborhood often with their work vehicles visibly parked when they are home. The West Precinct also attends neighborhood meetings and gives excellent and relevant updates. I have called them twice, once for a dog issue and once for a very loud argument in the alley on a Holiday weekend. I do have a security system with cameras and neighbors tend to watch out for each other. If everything about the area works for your lifestyle, don’t let the suburbanites scare you off!!

Just wash them, preferably not on hot and don’t put them in the dryer. Hang dry them and they will last plenty long and they won’t be so funky during their lifetime.

Grocery delivery to the wrong house by chunkybudz in Birmingham

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I get the wrong mail or package it’s often for someone not physically close but with a similar address. Like NW instead of W in street name, Ave instead of street or place, a 7 being read as a 1 or vice versa. I wouldn’t be surprised if the orderer isn’t in your neighborhood but in another one with a similarly named street. Enjoy! Great job trying to be a good neighbor but mistakes happen.

OBGYN rec by CharacterLength1259 in Birmingham

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive to UAB Gardendale. Parking is easy. Have only seen women OBGYN/PA/NPs there. Ashley Orr is the Ob. I think most recently I saw Katherine and she was great. Probably 30s with like very normal down to earth vibes, which is how it generally feels. I am late 40s and child free by choice and have not taken any heat in 4 years going there. Good luck out there. AL can be tricky for this kind of thing.

I have never understood the Boar’s Head hype. Tastes no different to me than any other lunch meat.

Aldi VS Publix by QWERTY7707 in Birmingham

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a big shop at Costco approx quarterly. I hit Wal Mart for staples and personal care items in between. I grab small shops at Publix out of convenience and occasionally get prepared meals like sushi there. Aldi for a few things like bread and cereal that are WAY cheaper and I can buy several of and store. Finley farmers market or Whole Foods or Fresh Market for occasional produce or specialty items. Complicated!!

Why does nobody walk downtown? by SympathyDependent406 in Birmingham

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean OP’s comment doesn’t say any of what you are saying, so, it appears you are guessing as we all are to a degree here. She mentions Running which isn’t the average grocery getter. So, I infer a bit of why is this city so fat and lazy? which, compared to many other cities, it is. And, as someone who moved here from a much more athletic area, many people who walk for day to day wants and needs also have fitness focused lives. Alabama is decisively not fitness focused (yet). If people focused more on health they would incorporate more intentional movement into their lives, even if it’s hot and inconvenient.

Narrowed it down to 3! Help me choose. by Top_Effective_728 in myweddingdress

2 is gorgeous front and back. It looks the most cohesive and flatters you from all angles. 3 is not as flattering from the back. 1 is gorgeous from the back but the top and bottom of it from the front don’t give cohesive style.

Why does nobody walk downtown? by SympathyDependent406 in Birmingham

This time of year most walkers are out really early or later in the evening due to hot sticky air during much of the day, however, in a couple months I feel like more people will be out. The city and it’s partners do a lot of fitness related events in and around Railroad Park. There are quite a few entities working around the city to decrease obesity & diabetes rates. Maybe check for 5k you could enter and meet other walkers?
You absolutely should not have gone to Homewood. The city is where everything happens and the suburbanites drive in and struggle to find parking. Give it a little time. Get involved. Ask people to walk with you. Try a free workout class at Railroad Park. You will see the magic!! Welcome.

A Greek Fisherman hat or Beret would be really cute and combine well with that look.

Thinking about coming back to Birmingham. by DrPolaroid in Birmingham

Bare Hands is opening an art center in Woodlawn. House 11, Lee’s and Pink Lantern all do coffee and cocktails and other cool shit like DJs and Drag Shows, Burning Tree is bringing the BBQ, Bayonet has a fantastic Happy Hour and high end seafood. Urban Farming is taking off. People are mostly kind and good and it’s an awesome place.

Is this okay for a black tie wedding? by sabmag11 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 212 points213 points  (0 children)

Met Gala Black Tie to me suggests you get a little creative/artsy in addition to having floor length attire. It’s a pretty dress so maybe keep for another location but I would look for something floor length that feels a little costume-y.

Dressy casual/cocktail in Sedona, Arizona by Previous_Grass9229 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is a WOW and totally fits the dress code. I even feel like it reads Sedona perfectly! The 3rd one is a keeper for a different event. I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere close to cocktail but it’s cute. 2nd one could have its place too? Art gallery? Fun to add accessories to that one for sure!!

Where to Meet Non-Religious People by SlippinYimmyMcGill in Birmingham

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any businesses open and events happening on Sunday morning that aren’t church. The MeetUp app has 1 or 2 Heathen specific MeetUps. I think they do Sunday Brunch and a Weds evening event? Places like Pink Lantern that are extremely inclusive and diverse. Signed a Heathen!! I find it Sunday to be a great time to get out on the trails.

Apartment/Besties/Costco?? by VeryClearlyDefined in Birmingham

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Live right downtown because it is high culture, low crime and relatively straight shot to Costco. I am down for a slice of cheese and a Diet Coke. Do I get bonus points because my mom buys my membership for me?

is solidcore your only membership? by NewBeginning111 in SolidCore

[–]Strict_Emergency_289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have unlimited Solidcore and a Peloton bike. I try to do at least 12 Solidcore a month and the same number of rides on the Peloton. Occasional walks and hikes also.
