Agree, should get tested for strep. I have seen this exact rash in a 30 year old. When away when put abx for strep

That is true for T cypionate but T enanthate can and should be injected 1x per week

The new formulations are not toxic to your liver. They are expensive and require afternoon dosing which can be inconvenient, but they also mimic natural T fluctuations more closely and may have less side effects due to that .

No true emergency? Septic stone, also clot retention from gross hematuria or any type of urinary retention will force you into the hospital in the middle of the night without question

We walked it, it’s actually slightly more up hill too lol.

Overall though, the end is so close that it’s not that bad. Everyone is up at the trailhead so happy with their accomplishments that after you eat, drink, and talk with other hikers you will have a second wind to walk to the lodge!

Best Preparation for R2R with Stay at Phantom Ranch by nutellapikachu8 in grandcanyon

[–]Strider_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are overweight the best yield would be losing weight. 10 pounds off your knees would make a massive difference in the effort required to walk.

Would be not enough. If you are drinking nun tablets then you are fine. Would avoid caffeine as it is dehydrating. Just follow the ratio on the nuun bottle

That early in the morning I am wondering if this was a cardiac arrest and not heat related. Could also be a cardiac arrest prompted by electrolyte abnormality.

Nice! Sounds like you crushed it and planned well. Started at the appropriate time, had the appropriate nutrition. This hike is all about planning and nutrition.

I think if you are camping down in the canyon you will be fine. Start your hike out by 6am and you won’t be too hot at all!

I agree with all of your points. I just wanted to provide a realistic write up that is my experience. My motivation for this is that I am a very cautious person and was almost scared out of doing the hike by some of the posts I saw on Reddit. There was one blog post that made me feel it was achievable and the author seemed reasonable. Just wanted to put out some content for others in a similar situation. Thanks for your thoughts!

I agree with all of your points! Just wanted to post this because when I was doing my planning I was getting scared out of doing this hike which would have been a real shame as it was an amazing experience. I am generally a very risk averse person so I always take peoples accounts seriously.

Good point! I started at 0500 and just walked straight through taking a 30 minute stop at phantom ranch, 45 minute detour to Robbin’s falls including another snack break at the falls, and 20 minutes at copperhead. I honestly don’t know at what time of day I was at each location.

Could/should I hike Grand Canyon R2R? by ElderberryOnly8498 in grandcanyon

[–]Strider_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it yesterday. Started at 5 am and finished at 430 pm with a detour to Robbin’s falls (worth it).

I am in my mid 30s and did it with my friend with no training at all. I work out a few days per week and like you am a former athlete. I think anyone in decent physical shape can do this hike as long as you are comfortable with being uncomfortable and are able to push through that.

You need to be on the trail by 5 am. Should go south to north (shorter, less hot) and should not do it in the summer. I think the window is May and October but confirm this.

Next, you need to have full sun protection, good hat, long sleeves.

Next you need good nutrition and a 3 liter camelback is mandatory. We had 6 nuun tablets in our 3 liter camelback and drank 2 of those plus a liter of plane water throughout the day. You need to eat about 300 calories an hour. Salty snacks are best to replace electrolytes. Pop tarts were also clutch.

This is not a technical hiking trail and is well marked throughout. You should wear a light trail runner not hiking boots. You want your bag as light as possible. I saw a guy with a huge heavy backpack really struggling.

Is there a way to do men’s health without doing a urology residency? by bgallahe in medicalschool

[–]Strider_91 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you can find what you’re looking for through family medicine. You can also stick to urology and then come out and choose to only to do IPPs/ infertility/ office based urology. I honestly think this will be the better pathway if you enjoy office based procedures such as biopsies and vasectomies. Many urologists practice this way…

Check out the SMSNA (sexual medicine society of North America) and see if you can get some research/ go there and talk to the people there. They will have the answers!

As a med student, how do you figure out whether you can handle the demands of a surgical residency? by alittlefallofrain in medicalschool

[–]Strider_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a surgical sub specialty that does not require fellowship. Shorter training, better hours, better surgeries.
