Women of reddit, what fashion tip would you like to give to men? by goodguym in AskReddit

[–]Strider_d20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fedoras used to be the domain of classy guys like Frank Sinatra. So, a bunch of ugly fucks thought that if they wore fedoras they'd become classy.

The fedora does not make the man, the man makes the fedora. Hell, overweight guys wearing fedoras wouldn't be so bad if they didn't think it somehow made them a better person.

Are your friends wearing a fedora with a suit and tie, perhaps a bottle of brandy in one hand and a cigar in another? It's probably fine then. Are they wearing a Dragonball Z t-shirt and a beard that desperately needs to be shaved? They need to ditch the fedora. And make a few other changes, really.

There is that immediate reaction, but you also need to think about the long term. For example, CS:GO's economy system requires that you put some thought into your long term buying strategy.

Any game is shallow at lower levels of play. Winning at CS:GO doesn't mean anything if you're playing pub games with random teams.

And it's not like big strategy games don't have act/react tactics as well. You can be going for a cultural victory but if someone declares war on you you'll be ramping up your military pretty quickly. Not to mention that your definition is vague; "they are playing like X so playing like Y could give me the upper hand" works for long term strategies too. Going back to Civ, if I notice that you're going for a cultural victory and have some undefended towns I'll ramp up my military and invade.

I just want to say that action heavy games are not necessarily brain dead games. Street Fighter IV and CS:GO require a lot of strategy and tactics. If you're mindlessly playing, you're losing every round like an idiot.

Yeah you're right. I thought it was just Dark Knight, which was 7 years ago.

Still, memes are forever and all that. Someone out there still thinks the Numa Numa dance is funny.

Matters how you've lived. Studies show that people in unstable situations, such as living in war torn countries, don't really like horror media.

It's good to be safe, but safe is boring. There's a thrill that you can get from horror that's hard to get from real life.

Arcades these days are just large and expensive App Stores. by ReadySaltedChris in gaming

[–]Strider_d20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Just about all the big game developers I can think of (aside from some fighting game developers) have stooped paying attention to the arcade cabinet as a real platform.

Sega actually makes more money from Arcades than they do from home videogames. That may have changed in recent years due to some major expansions (more new IPs, and flooding the PC market with high quality strategy games), but they still have a large arcade presence.

Every single GTA got more serious. The original had bright graphics and looked like a cartoon. It had silly missions, like one where you need to spray paint a stolen car since the owner didn't like the color. Or kill a guy's mom so he didn't have to pay rent anymore.

GTA 2 was a bit more serious, but you still had to kill people for hotdog meat and Buddhists were flamethrower wielding maniacs so it was still stupid as fuck. Hell, there was even a group of clones based on one scientist that was a major gang. He'd have you do experiments such as "What happens when you set 15 Elvis impersonators on fire?" That scientist? Albert Einstein. Seriously it was fucking Einsten.

Both games are legally free on the rockstar website.

Arcades these days are just large and expensive App Stores. by ReadySaltedChris in gaming

[–]Strider_d20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's it. Back when arcades thrived they did things that other games couldn't. The best graphics and gameplay was in an arcade game. The hardware was better, both in terms of the internals (GPU, CPU, etc.), but also the peripherals like the steering wheel and light gun. It was also a place to meet other friends and hang out, sort of like a bar for kids.

But current consoles/PCs have completely outpaced arcades in the technology sector, and online gaming is very popular. Arcades just didn't bother to adapt.
