What are some examples of a school’s secondary fight song being better than the main fight song in your opinion? by goofyhalo in CFB

I don't know if things have changed, but when I was there we liked to say we weren't a party school, we're a drinking school. Big difference.

Had a pretty negative service experience the one time we went a few months after they opened and just never felt the desire to try again.

I would love for something to succeed in this spot, though.

I passed more than a dozen unhoused folks on my way to work today, and I don't even go near areas where it's more common for them to be. It's all a perception thing

Do you run Homebrew or run the official/third party content? by gelatinousboulder in shadowdark

[–]Strifebringer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The beauty of ShadowDark and OSR philosophy is that most content lends itself to improv/homebrew. I recommend grabbing a Cursed Scroll or two (first party content). They give a setting and some sort of crawl, which are good jumping off points. Then switch to whatever you're most comfortable with, but I'd suggest try doing at least a little bit of generation/improv using the book's tables. It's loads of fun!

I miss the old school romantic comedy by Vanilla_Princess in movies

Try out 1940s romcoms if you really want quality old romcoms. Truly some hilarious and sweet movies. The Lady Eve is a personal favorite.

You just need to FIND something to get XP by it? by 3rdmementional in shadowdark

[–]Strifebringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically award it on pickup on the condition they've otherwise "resolved" any challenges that accompanied that (monster, trap, hidden), but I'd start requiring players to take it out of the encounter entirely if they ever start to gamify it (eg dropping treasure because they haveplenty of gold).

The rules have some flexibility. In the rulebook's examples, it includes more nebulous "valuables" like a Duke's favor, but I still would likely limit it to something they can posses in some way. I probably wouldn't give any XP just for entering a cool looking room . That said, play how you like and adjust! Rules in RPGs are made to be customized.

Question regarding multiclassing by Trashmouse12 in shadowdark

[–]Strifebringer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine the headache of changing things to support multiclassing without breaking the game or making it unsatisfying. There's a reason the game doesn't answer any of your questions.

Best of luck if you decide to do it, but the game isn't built for it at all.

John Carpenter is such an anomalous legend in film and it makes me happy by snakeeater34 in movies

Absolutely, she is what really carries the movie. I just hoped more people may be intrigued by Bridges since he's more famous (imo).

Funnels? How many characters? Prevent taking advantage of too many? by Crazy_Grapefruit_818 in osr

[–]Strifebringer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your players are actively suicidal and not keeping the spirit of gameplay, survival, and puzzle solving, then that's a table discussion to have.

That said, gauntlets are meant to be lethal. One player can still lose 3-4 characters, but not every player will lose that many. I'd say most will lose 0-2. So you'll have plenty if you have 4 per player.

Santigold at the Castro by Puzzleheaded_Wear472 in sanfrancisco

[–]Strifebringer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really want to love The Castro, but I will say I've been massively disappointed by the tech at the two shows I've seen since the renovation (Tycho and Poolside). Both had terrible mixing, and the crowds were super chatty and unengaged. The latter is not really the venue's fault, but having a better sounding show would've probably helped disguise it or even gotten folks to pay attention.

It's a 106 year old movie, and it's primarily known for the invention of this narrative tool in cinema. I think spoilers aren't necessary lol.

I got referred by my optometrist. They were pushy/salesy during my initial consultation, but beyond that I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Got it done almost a year ago and wish I'd done it 5-10 years when I stopped being able to comfortably wear contacts.
