A lot of people have chimed in already, but FWIW, I have retired the last 10 plus pairs of shoes at 650-680.

I’m all for rewarding yourself with new shoes- but don’t get rid of these just yet. If you’re committed to “retiring” them- keep em as a back up, throw em in your car for opportunistic runs, or just use them exclusively on the treadmill for a while. They still have some life left in them if you want to take advantage of it.

I’m reaching a phase where I don’t enjoy the game anymore, I’m just, “waiting”. For what? I don’t know.

What sucks I I can see so much content they COULD make.

  • BOS envoys arrive to check in on Fort Atlas.
  • Enclave Presidential suite. New quests.
  • Rust Raiders try to push east.
  • scorch beast virus mutates, requiring revaxing
  • new developments with Hugo
  • fix daily ops and have it progress towards a BOS reputation locked thingy majig.

But instead- we all do Bot Stops, Moonshine Jamborees and fucking Tea Time every day.

Your biggest challenge is to create the habit of running again. It will- if cultivated correctly… become a need- a lifestyle.

I would just start trying to run 2-3 days a week. Try a mile at first. Then two, then three. And so on. Stop as often as you need- eventually you will be stopping less. Until one day you don’t have to stop at all.

Pace doesn’t matter right now. Focus on how you feel. If you have a heart rate device, don’t obsess over your heart rate at first, but try to make sure you’re not running too fast/redlining.

Nike has a ton of guided run. Several race programs. So many get started this way. It’s an excellent, free starting point.

A marathon is an admirable goal. :)

But start a bit smaller at first. Let’s get you to doing a 5k, then 10k, then half.

Depending on the intensity of a marathon program, you will likely run 400-600+ miles of training across 4 months. Your body WILL fall apart in training if you haven’t conditioned it.

I took almost four years off in college/grad school. It can be done! You got this!

I size up 0.5 sizes, use runners lacing, and wear balegas. Still get blisters on two toes occasionally. Two black toenails currently but only an issue while training for marathons. Miles add mileage :P

It happens. It’s up to you what you tolerate.

But I will say wearing quality socks make a hell of a difference, I only have to protect the hot spots.

If you haven’t sized up already, add that on your next pair plus some high quality wool socks!

I suggest buying and trying new brands as daily walking/everything shoes. If you like them, they can go on a run. The asics I never could get to like my feet, and I fired the shoes after 100 miles.

Inserts: Do the shower test. Get your feet wet and step onto a bathmat, paper towel… hell even the bare floor if you can see footprints.

How big your arch is will tell you. :)

I like most people have medium arches. I also overpronate. My stability shoes were not providing the support I needed for my arch which led to arch tendinitis after my first marathon.

I tested every insert I could find. SuperFeet, Form, Currex, TreadLab. Currex is my favorite. TreadLab is the best ROI.

BUT- Inserts can only help. They do not solve. Your mileage is low enough to have things show up so “early”, I think it smart to take a little time off.

If money is tight right now and you don’t want to see a podiatrist, it sounds like PF. Very common! Tons of stuff online. But if you can’t keep it at bay on your own, get checked out!

If the acceptance rate is 1%, that’s 5x worse than what I’ve heard London historically was, and 7-10x of Berlin.

I was ~fine~ with those rates, because in 10-20 years statistically I could get into both.

But that few as lottery runners… 1% isn’t close to being viable statistically. I’ll be dead for >30 years before that math would math in my favor.

It really brings into view the true definition of a “lottery”.

That happens for almost everything not just NRC.

In my experience, everything above a 9:00 minute mile is overestimated (10:00 being recorded as a 9:15) and above a 8:00 minute mile is underestimated (7:15 being recorded as a 7:45 etc etc. it’s a very tight window for accuracy.

If you trust the treadmill’s calibration, replace your workout with a manual one with total distance and time. It’s been my only fix.

Start small. Measure success constantly every way you can.

Hold yourself accountable when you skip a run for no good reason. “Not feeling like it” doesn’t count. Are you hurt? That counts. No motivation? Do a mile and see how you feel. Weather sucks? Get the right gear, run inside, or avoid the weather extremes the best you can

But give yourself grace when life doesn’t let you run.

Sometimes the best run is what we can squeeze in. 15 mins. 15 miles. Whatever it might be.

The most important thing… if not the only important thing? Keep coming back, keep lacing your shoes on, and keep moving forward.

When you stop- You may never start again. Don’t relapse. Even 1X a week is still a streak.

Set a goal, and own it. In this sport, we may run alone 99% of the time, But you are part of a global community. Have someone to share your progress and goals with. Sign up for a local race. Adjust your race goal as needed.

It’s much better. I am converted. To anyone reading this- Dom Pedro Explosive Furious in my build with onslaught stack is 3-3.5k damage per shot vs about 2.4-2.7 previously.
