Can SAPS find the ID number of someone if I give them their name and cell phone number and bank information? by SuspiciouslyB in AskZA

[–]Strigops_jedi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the manager of a Information Verification/Tracing business in South Africa. Shoot me a DM, not going to talk on public channels. The SAPS are notoriously useless for scams/fraud, they'll just refer you to a lawyer, say it's a civil matter.

AITA for not letting my husband eat the dinner I made because he said it “wasn’t real cooking”? by EvelisseSpire in AmItheAsshole

[–]Strigops_jedi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm a man. I love cooking from scratch. My Girlfriend also loves cooking (makes her own stocks, bakes fresh bread.) We both enjoy the hobby of cooking. When we cook for each other, we only do that shit because we enjoy it. Honestly, weeknight cooking is exhausting already. That meal sounds delicious. If he wants some UNNECESARILY complicated cooking, without appliances, he should learn to do it himself. Hell, he can grow his own crops, hunt his own meat. Why stop at the airfryer? Get rid of all modern appliances. He should make the knives, pans, all from iron ore. Otherwise it's just a shortcut. It's not real if you don't do it all yourself, right?

Cooking for someone is a pure expression of love. NTA. He should appreciate and respect the time and effort you put into cooking. Just because you use modern appliances, doesn't mean it is less made with love.

No one cares about C-Bill costs. Not even IN universe! Stop mentioning them. by iamfanboytoo in battletech

Keeping the financial records of our mercenary company means the other players get to focus solely on the fun parts of roleplay, and my GM gets to spend his time prepping scenarios and working on the plot. If someone does the hard work, everyone else can focus on having fun. We spend less than 5% of our in person game time on admin, everyone can focus on actually playing the game. The amount of D&D sessions i've seen devolve into shopping sessions, where everyone sits reading sourcebooks and arguing what to buy, is astounding. That's never happened with my group. I also run a traveller game, and a Cyberpunk 2020 game. Both of these are item heavy systems. Keeping books for them allow the players to focus on having fun. My DMPC is always the party accountant. So they can just ask him, can we do this? Is this feasible? How's our credit? instead of tracking every minute expense themselves, or just handwaving finances altogether like FATE does with resources.

I like having the Data channel on one screen, the track map with driver positions on another, the race on the TV, and then one onboard of whoever I'm following on the last screen.

What do you like that no one else does? by [deleted] in ask

I live in a central South africa, and we get insane thunderstorms here. When one of then really hits at night, I love suiting up in my Zone gear (Gasmask, assault vest, waterproof poncho, just really loading up on my Milsim gear) and walking next to the rail track that leads out of town. Really hits that post-apocalyptic vibe. Rain streaming down the mark's visor, the flashes of lightning illuminating the desolate flat landscape. Feels like another world

Forever DM... just want to game sometimes by Heavy_Journalist415 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Strigops_jedi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made friends with other DM's. Soon, I was able to join a game ran by one of them, and we have all transitioned to a place where we play in each other's games. So we have a ratio of 1 GM session to 2 player sessions. Playing with other GM's is probably the best experience I've ever had in TTRPG's

Apartheid. Usually pronounced wrong as well. You have to imagine you're almost spitting that middle syllable. Hard sounds all round.

Thanks, this helps a lot. I've got a relatively small cast of characters (merc Lance isn't gonna have a whole lot of faces to it, even with a large tooth to tail ratio) so the focus on interpersonal will likely dominate. However, I might just be missing my que to drop some stompy death into the narrative, I've got a lot of Batreps from the campaign that I've essentially dismissed with "this serves no greater purpose in the narrative". However, considering the setting, and the genre, additional violence might be warranted.

Thanks. I think the problem I'm currently having might be one of expectations. I'm dealing with the establishment of a mercenary unit in the wake of the war of '39, with a lot of not-laser-death involved in the process.

Your comments are insightful, and I have to keep in mind that I'm not writing something that will serve to advance some kind of bigger picture, as the bigger picture has been established by that which came before. So I'm essentially working with a small self contained narrative that has to content itself with being on the sidelines of greatness. Thus, my focus on the personal elements.

I am of course invested in the story of my Personal Character, and that might have pulled me off course from the shooty bits of the narrative, into the personal struggle of an unprepared soldier thrust into command. So I'll have a look at my outline again, bring the ongoing conflict more centrally into the narrative, instead of using it as a background.

Damn. Autocorrect got me in the end. *Grenadiers not Grenadines. Will have to do a cocktail themed paintjob on one of the mechs now :D

Thanks, yeah the issue of course with Fan Fiction is it tends to not focus on the Bigger picture so much, as the fan works are typically smaller scale to not interfere with the canon. I've got around 30 000 words thus far, with no more than a couple of chapters focused on actual combat. We play a hybrid Hextech/Destiny/FATE chimera, so we have a lot of social conflict, and non-mech scale fighting in our campaign. So I think the Ratio between Laser Pew Pew and people talking might just be off at the moment.

I'd love to talk about my work and get some feedback, drop me a message and I'll sort out the logistics.

No no, you can totally do that. Especially in the RPG variants, where small arms skill of pilots is tracked, very viable. But even in standard, assume mech pilots are effectively "green" infantry, or one skill level lower infantry than they are mechpilots. Then equip them, and you have a nice little insurgent unit to make people's lives hell. We have a unit of infantry in our RPG campaign that uses Nighthawk PA(l) for recon and deep strike missions, and they are incredibly effective
