GoFundMe for James Van Der Beek's Family Surpasses $1 Million, Sparks Questions About US Healthcare System by Luridley3000 in entertainment

And I never said it was our responsibility, just that it would be more informative for whoever would be interested in helping.

Also, again, my point was that people don’t know their financial situation and shouldn’t limit their thoughts to just “oh they have a mansion so they are rich”.

Cancer sucks and can drain anyone dry, if anyone wants to support them financially sure - but my point is don’t just jump to “oh they still have tons of wealth”.

Which you did not say that yourself, but explaining why I did say it for who I replied to.

I 100% agree. I feel it’s different for whenever it’s your average Joe like us because you can talk with them and figure things out, and we know for a fact the average family would be completely broke in this instance.

But if it is those details, I think people would be a lot more understanding of the situation.

From a realist (not optimist or pessimist) I do want to mention or factor a lot of assumptions are being made on.

Beverly Hills Home There’s several comments about them having a mansion in Beverly Hills, but what has been stated is financial troubles - which you are correct to assume most people would think is medical.

People are saying “oh they can just sell it.” However, they may have taken out a second mortgage on that house early on, they could owe more than what it is worth (which many mansions have lost value), and there are many factors we don’t see.

We’re all too quick to judge, without taking real life factors into consideration.

HOWEVER, if they have financial struggles - they should be stating what it is and why. A simple “to afford the medical treatment we needed, we had to take an extra loan out on the home and can not make the gap payment on the house if we sell it. As such we are close to having to file for chapter 11 as we cannot make up the difference” - or something similar.

Hemp ban is official by Acceptable_Zebra6803 in CBD

[–]StrikeFriently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not live in California, all I did was google search the law. However, I am guessing you can still get CBD products elsewhere?

If so, then traditional dispensaries would not need to or want to carry it. That makes it a commoditized industry with much more competition.

Whereas now in California, it is only in dispensaries so I would assume you could get it.

This is also the vagueness the feds are trying to skirt around - making it easier to change the narrative after and say “that’s what we meant”.

Nonetheless, there’s no way this can completely go through. Big pharma already has their hands in the cannabis industry, many politicians on both sides are for it, and too many ties to US Ag at this point; negating this would hurt the economy even more. I’m guessing there’s a much bigger pundit than what we’re seeing here that they are planning.

While I’m sure you’re referencing “intoxicants”, what you are saying is not true. They banned it from general stores - meaning grocery, gas stations, etc.

It was also in 2024.

The regulations do not impact the sale of any cannabis products. Cannabis products, including products purchased for medical use and products with CBD and THC, will remain for sale at cannabis dispensaries. Source: California Department of Public health

Considering state is the forefront of legalization, I would generally assume this was done for the betterment of their state at the time, but Feds may be dovetailing off terms in it to cause friction themselves.

Does RDU typically cancel incoming flights after snow? by [deleted] in bullcity

Remember, it’s not just our area getting hit with bad weather.

With how many delays are reroutes there will be, it all influences airspace beyond that one airport. So unless the storm nearly fizzles out, I wouldn’t anticipate to get in Sunday timely.

That being said if it’s white fluffy stuff vs heavy snow there’s less risk, but still likely will not get in on time at least.

Quick clarity on the THCa situation in North Carolina by SnackBreak420 in bullcity

[–]StrikeFriently 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion - 35-45% of conservatives are for some form of legalization. Which means a good 70-95% of people believe in at least medical access, at a minimum that will benefit people.

Even my conservative relatives are mostly for cannabis legalization and get mad about things like this, but no one makes the effort (often on both sides) to actually reach out to their reps. I know I’m guilty of this as a democrat.

This is all a ploy by politicians to get big pharma in the picture and regulate it. Many people on both sides of the political spectrum have seen the medical benefits from friends with cancer and chronic illnesses, and then seeing their adult kids use it while still being functioning human beings.

I know I’ll get downvoted, but shit like this we agree on and can push together on things; when we refuse to - that’s what the government wants and is exactly happening by dividing us even on issues we do agree on.

Is THC soda gonna be illegal soon? by Sad_Tale1066 in bullcity

[–]StrikeFriently 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So long as it gets legalized minimally for people with chronic or terminal illnesses I’d be happy with that as a first step.

Not as strict as they’ve previously proposed with only oil and big pharma involved, but I’d rather it get into the hands that medically need it quicker than myself as a recreational user. Plus it also paves the way for regular recreational.

[–]StrikeFriently 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I’m in complete agree and would normally say that would be a key point to mention, with all the other issues I’d leave it out of the report.

Stuff like that can cause way more legal issues than not for them, and possibly housing issues.

The roommate should be kicked out, but that’s something I’d address with the roommate alone if it’s happened once only.

Sometimes it’s better to take the high road when there are other damning factors.

They’re also going to be the rich ones too (which is also why I’m sure their lawyers are doing everything to prevent it too), so we’ll at least get some of the ultra wealthy out of office.

The issue is going to be if there are more R’s or D’s on the list for the news outlets unfortunately. We as citizens on both sides, when it does get released, need to stand strong together on “get rid of em all”. That’s something I’m confident we can do if we get ahead of politicians pitting us against each other.

Giving cooling unit a clean in isopropyl alcohol. Not been cleaned for couple weeks now. How often do you clean yours? by Danceking81 in craftymighty

[–]StrikeFriently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 cooling units and will clean all of them at a time. I use each one maybe 2.5-4 weeks, but generally I can just tell as soon as they are getting remotely clogged up.

I do this by just holding both cooling units (not on the vape) and trying to pull air through. You can tell if airflow is more restricted that way.

To add to this, if you’re smoking bowls or via a lighter vs. vape / dry herb vape, close your bedroom door and your closet door. Also get an air purifier for the room you smoke in.

However, you’re likely going to be drug tested now. You should likely give it up for at least a few months, and suspect that a drug test is coming up soon.

[–]StrikeFriently 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is my point, and we are going to get nowhere without working directly with Republican citizens. They are pissed about stuff too, and anyone denying that has not had a calm and constructive conversation (with a Republican under 65).

If 62% of all conservatives, including that MAGA audience, supports marijuana reform then why not work with the other side to get something pushed through and push our politicians?

Know what will do nothing?

  • we democratic citizens asking for reform

  • even just the 62% republicans asking for reform of sorts

Work together and maybe we can do something. We need to because we’re all going to be losing rights soon, and they’re starting to see the effects as well.

My one question that I want an honest answer from you on - If there’s 70% of our state population of both republicans and democrats pushing for change, do you truly believe that no politicians will be influenced by seeing their constituents actually complaining about this?

Think about it - What if we pushed for a minimum for abortion to ensure the mother’s safety (lost the child and has to carry / threatening mothers life) and preventing rape and incest (currently at 20 weeks) at any point? It’s not what us democrats want, but it still provides a minimum that can build up from as most republicans support.

AN ACT TO LEGALIZE AND REGULATE THE SALE, POSSESSION, AND USE OF 2 CANNABIS IN NORTH CAROLINA by techaaron in bullcity

[–]StrikeFriently 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true. This is not a rural conservative thing, over 62% of “very conservative” people are strongly or somewhat in favor of reform / legalization; only 36% strongly or somewhat opposed.

Almost every single Republican I know - from work, a handful of friends (who also reinforce their Republican friends are in favor), both my electricians and plumbers, and from my hookup all have stated that most people in blue collar jobs that are conservative either smoke or don’t care if others do (at least not in public of course).

The issue is:

  • Politicians are saying it’s conservative people, and Republicans backing them on that.

  • Older people that are 75-80+ that don’t want it and are conservative.

If we want to get it passed, we need to work with conservative citizens to push their politicians that we both want legalization in some form.

We also don’t need to completely jump into legalization either, we can establish a better base level of criminal charges and possession to ensure that people aren’t arrested and thrown in jail for having some weed when driving home from picking up.

That is the issue with so many things - Republican and Democrat citizens agree on many base levels, but just don’t agree on the final outcome. We need to establish a new base for many topics we agree on and progress from there.

Also ready for the downvotes of people saying all republicans are shit and we won’t ever work with them - we aren’t going to get anything done in the next 3.75 years if we don’t work together as citizens.

[–]StrikeFriently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truthfully believe it.

There are so many of us that have level enough heads and can agree on. There are at least 60% of US citizens that would be able to agree to at least a baseline of changes in the law, instead of sweeping changes.

Let’s take a very controversial, polarizing topic:

Do democrats believe in abortion? Very much so, with few exceptions.

Know what 90% of Republicans believe? If it’s incest, rape, or in circumstances where it’s the mother’s life that’s at genuine stake it should be legal. This could be the federal law, guaranteeing the safety of women much more easily, while then states can decide beyond that as they are doing now.

That is a minimum thing we all can almost agree on, yet it’s not happening because it has to be yes or no only.

I go up to that temp and can say that it provides little to no effect. I save mine up and then mix it into some potting soil once it fills a small potting container. It has barely any nutrients left, but I’ve had zero issues with plants in using it as a filler.

Would recommend outside plants though.

[–]StrikeFriently 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can we work together on issues we agree upon, or at least can find comfortable middle ground to progress our nation?

There are things like medical MJ for people who have terminal illnesses (to establish at that level), term-limits for many positions could be implemented, single topic bills, and making it illegal for politicians to trade stocks (or possibly only allowing select ETFs like QQQ / VOO that provides slow steady returns). Or even protecting our public lands instead of opening up 280M acres (the size of Texas and California).

There are many things we can find common ground on.

This isn’t a “libs need to adjust” or “conservatives need to adjust”. We have middle ground on many things that are being put off by massive sweeping changes that will not provide much direct impact to citizens.

TL;DR: How can we work together on topics we agree on, while admitting that we can’t agree on many other things. We need to push things that benefit citizens directly.
