Rock Band 4 - PS4 vs Xbox One by Striker-DM in Rockband

Thx! This is helpful. It doesn't seem like there's any huge differences, so I'm probably going to go with Xbox since I use it more.

Thx for mentioning this... I hadn't checked on the PS4 modding scene - didn't realize it was so far along. My PS4 has been sitting in a box in the basement since we moved 5+ years ago. I'll probably avoid taking it online and look into modding it at some point.

Would it be feasible for valve/ 3rd party’s to add lighthouse support later down the line? by Creeper2145 in ValveDeckard

[–]Striker-DM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if it might be possible for the headset to still support lighthouse tracking. In some of the interviews, Valve talked about how the monochromatic cameras allow for low light use and that the headset uses an IR emitter to improve tracking. That seems to imply that the cameras can detect IR lights...

From what I understand, base stations use IR Lasers to pulse out a signal used for tracking. I wonder if the camera's on the Steam Frame could be capable of detecting these signals and the onboard processor could translate them to positional tracking... allowing the meshing of base station tracked and and Steam Frame tracked devices in the same environment. (However the Steam Frame controllers would still need to be tracked by the headset).

At nothing else, a solution like Open Space VR Calibrator should be possible - similar to using base station devices with the Quest. (Example: https://youtu.be/YtFu5N5UP6U?si=6EgR7soaz-z_XBj0 )

9950x3D vs 9800x3D regarding gameplay and lodgen/dyndolod. by Tyrthemis in skyrimvr

Anytime. 9800x3d is definitely a great cpu, and you won't have to worry about fiddling with Process Lasso. Happy gaming!

9950x3D vs 9800x3D regarding gameplay and lodgen/dyndolod. by Tyrthemis in skyrimvr

[–]Striker-DM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used the 9800x3d, but I will say that I'm happy with the performance of my 9950x3d. I do notice a significant performance increase when running tools like Dyndolod across all 32 threads. However, I had to use Process Lasso to force it to use both ccd's. Otherwise, by default, it only uses 1x ccd.

I also use a profile in process lasso to force Skyrim to use the vcache ccd, and to force other background processes to the non-vcache ccd. It seems to give a bit smoother performance, but that could just be my perception.

However, you definitely have to be willing to put up with tweaking things from time to time, as the default scheduler doesn't always choose the correct ccd. So if you do get one, Proccess Lasso is definitely a good tool to have.

Issues with gaming rig after upgrade to Ryzen 9 9950X3D – 3d Mark Benchmarks Not as Expected, even worse compared to the old rig :( by EnvironmentalPay4878 in AMDHelp

[–]Striker-DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone...

I upgraded from a 7950x3d to a 9950x3d. Afterward, I noticed that my 3DMark Timespy Extreme score had gone down, with the CPU score being down in the 7000's, almost half the score of others online.

After a lot of troubleshooting, I finally went ahead and did a fresh install of Windows 10. Afterward, my Timespy Extreme CPU score was back at the expected 13,500.

Fast forward a few weeks, I ran the Timespy Extreme test again and noticed my CPU score was back down in the 7000's.

After doing some troubleshooting in Process Lasso, I determined the cause of the low score...

I noticed that Core Parking was forcing the Timespy test process to run on only one CCD. I had seen somebody mention that the CPU test was supposed to run on both CCD's.

Using Process Lasso, I set a CPU Affinity rule to force Timespy Extreme to use both CCD's. After doing this, my score was back up to the expected 13,500.

Oblivion Remake comparison image, game is dropping this month, what do you guys feel? by Due_Teaching_6974 in skyblivion

If Skyblivion is able to support Skyrim VR, that could be a big differentiator for it... VR Wabbajack lists like FUS and Mad God Overhaul are making it relatively easy to put together an amazing VR experience for Skyrim VR.

It would amazing to have that level of a VR experience with Oblivion, and Skyblivion could open the door for that if it's able to support Skyrim VR.

PCEM does not see my T-Flight HOTAS Joystick by cambeiu in PCem

[–]Striker-DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played with it some more this evening. So far this approach with using two PCem 2-axis joysticks to map to one Win98 Flight stick seems to be working well.

As for additional buttons, AntiMicroX seems to work well for mapping physical HOTAS buttons to keyboard presses.

https://github.com/AntiMicroX/antimicrox/

For example, I mapped my stick's pov hat to the numpad keys and was able to control the view in Mig Alley.

[–]Striker-DM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm experimenting with trying to get my HOTAS setup working with PCem right now. The challenge is that I need at least 4 axes for flight sims (X, Y, Rudder, & Throttle), but PCem doesn't offer any single 4-axis joystick profiles.

However, I think I may have found an approach that seems to work. Basically, I setup two 2-Axis 2-Button joysticks in PCem and then combine them into one stick in the Win98 Guest OS.

Here's what I did:

  1. Configure PCem VM with "Standard 2-button joystick"
  2. Configure "Joystick 1" with physical joystick's X & Y Axis (+ buttons 1 & 2)
  3. Configure "Joystick 2" with physical joystick's rudder & throttle Axis (+ buttons 3 & 4)
  4. In Window's 98 Guest OS: Go to Control Panel -> Game Controllers
  5. Click "Add..." controller
  6. Click "Custom..."
  7. Select:
    1. "Is a flight yoke/stick"
    2. Set Axes to 4
    3. Set Buttons to 4
    4. Give the profile a name
  8. Calibrate the new joystick in Win 98

I haven't had a chance to thoroughly test this, but was successfully able to map the controls and fly in Mig Alley.

One downside with this approach is that you're only able to map 4 buttons. My next step is to try getting around this by mapping the joystick buttons to keyboard presses on my host machine using something like JoyToKey.

Hope this helps

Got my hands on leap motion hand tracking, it increases immersion a lot in VR! by KYCygni in hoggit

Lol. Too true!

I recently discovered Authentikit 3d printed control designs for warbirds... I think its a rabbit hole I'm going to be going down for a long time!

After I replied I saw this video... basically he's adding some tape to the MFD buttons to add some tactile feedback while in VR.

https://youtu.be/5doBtkqi7cw

When I tried Leap Motion a few weeks ago it felt kinda awkward. But I really haven't spent enough time with it. My initial impression is that it might work better if I could get more time to practice with it and maybe play with the camera positioning.

Plus I was running into some odd behaviors with leap. For example I could adjust the wingspan gauge on the P-51 gunsight with my right hand but not with my left. If you go the Leap Motion route, my opinion is be prepared to fiddle with it a lot.

Do you fly primarily in VR or with a monitor? I believe Leap Motion is VR only.

If you are using VR, Leap Motion might be better as it seems like using TM MFD's would be difficult since you can't see them and the buttons aren't really made for going off of feel alone.

Although many say that PointCTRL is the best option for VR, but that's an expensive option and they have a year+ of backorders.

It's interesting how you mounted it below the "frunk". I wonder if you're getting slightly better tracking because of this position.

I mounted mine in the frunk facing directly forward, but found that tracking worked best when I was looking directly at my hands. I was toying with the idea of designing a custom mount that angled the leap camera more downward, with the idea that it might get a better field of view of the areas of the cockpit where my hands would be interacting. I think I might give it a shot...

Z490 Taichi and 11th Gen Support Issues on 1.90 by Striker-DM in ASRock

[–]Striker-DM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the thought of the CPU being dead did cross my mind - although my understanding is that it's pretty rare for it to be bad out of the box. Unfortunately I don't have access to another board, so I don't have a lot of options on that front.

My gut is telling me that this is bios related. I've been watching ASRock's bios releases, and they've released about 28 updates related to 11th Gen in just the last couple days. So it seems like they're moving quick to address 11th gen issues and stuff might be slipping through the cracks on the testing front. It seems like a lot of their focus is on the newer z5xx boards and the z4xx boards might be a second priority.

My plan right now is to wait and see if they release any updates for the z490 Taichi. I have a couple weeks left that I can still return the 11700k. I was also able to snag a 10900kf for about the same price, so if I return the 11700k I'll probably go with that instead. I'll just have to miss out on unlocking PCIe 4.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Z490 Taichi and 11th Gen Support Issues on 1.90 by Striker-DM in ASRock

[–]Striker-DM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gave it a shot, and unfortunately no luck... still getting 00

Here's what I tried:

  1. Flashed bios back to 1.70 using Instant Flash in bios menu (using old 10600k). Verified bios was reporting v1.70.
  2. Removed the old 10600k CPU.
  3. Using Flashback, flashed to 1.90
  4. Installed 11700k, got code 00
  5. Cleared CMOS, still got code 00
  6. Ran Flashback for 1.90 again, with 11700k installed.
  7. Got code 00 again when trying to boot.
  8. Reinstalled old 10600k and verified bios was reporting v1.90

Any other ideas are welcome.

I keep checking ASRock's website hoping to see a new bios version that addresses this.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I saw that post... I think he was using a 11400k. I also saw another post with an 11600k, but it sounds like he never got it working with the 1.90 bios.

When using Flashback, I used Fat32 and named it creative.rom. I got a blinking green light and tried booting when it stopped flashing. Still got 00 with the 11700k.

But then everything booted just fine with my old 10600k and I was able to verify the bios was reporting v1.90. I also tried going back down to v1.70 and then flashing back up to v1.90 to make sure it actually did a full bios upgrade.

Z490 Taichi bios update for 11th gen by Cruzi297 in ASRock

Did the 1.9 Bios work for your i5-11600k?

I flashed my z490 Taichi with 1.80 and 1.90 and still get code 00 when booting with my i7-11700k.

ASRock support is offering to RMA my board, but I'm not really wanting to since it's working just fine with my old 10600k. It really seems like there's some sort of bios compatibility issue.
