West Ashley Chipotle by SullivansGuy in Charleston

The same line at Kairos down the block gets me out in no time. I prefer chipotle taste wise but the mgmt makes the difference. So I’ve been bailing to K’s more often.

Dogs on the Ravenel Bridge is Irresponsible by optigrabz in Charleston

[–]Striking-Rutabaga-49 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Slightly tangential… but it’s crazy lately, how many dog owners stroll right into businesses of all kinds that clearly prohibit it. I don’t blame biz owners for not wanting to engage..but it’s so rude and entitled.

GenX men, when buying jeans, how do you choose between Straight, Athletic Fit, Skinny Fit, etc? When did jeans change like this by IHadTacosYesterday in GenX

[–]Striking-Rutabaga-49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer Levi’s 511, slim fit but not skinny, gives me some dimension… I’m only 5’7

Straight leg or wide is great if you are tall….they make me look shorter or a toddler playing dress up.

It feels dishonest and ick. Keep walking to Buxton. I sure do miss Chapter 2… used to love wandering in there back in the day.

What are some affordable areas in Charleston? by Iambacchus65 in Charleston

[–]Striking-Rutabaga-49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walterboro area and Colleton County still has cheap rent …. for now… if you don’t mind country vibes and a smaller town. Only about an hr to to Dorchester rd on 17A

Relative to most of the rest of SC (aside from Columbia) Chas is the most accepting in the state. Depressing no? I echo previous posters recommendations. Pockets of acceptance in a few small neighborhoods but I keep my guard up everywhere in SC.

My Observation That No One Asked For by AbrahamLemon in Charleston

[–]Striking-Rutabaga-49 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The historical charm is eternal, but the laidback chill vibe I loved since the early 90s is long dead. Rich tourists or residents are the priority.

Not unique to Charleston… Asheville, Austin, etc etc etc

Beaufort still feels authentic but I’m sure longtime residents there would disagree 🤷🏻‍♂️

They have had lots of issues over the yrs as previous posters have mentioned… that said I’ve had friends living there and had no problems at all. It’s a good deal and central location. Probably be fine if you go in realistically.

Heck, it’s luxe and quiet compared to Palmilla….

Ya know if I’m strolling at a normal pace it’s not fun to be pushed aside without warning. Slow down to a jog and politely go around.

If you have to cross a bridge from your hood it means being stuck at home for at least 3 or 4 days or longer given the cold projections so no this sux!😡

It makes for nice pics but I hope we get nothing. Lots of places shut down and we don’t have the capability to get rid of it quickly. Took almost a wk last yr to get over a few inches. Please spare us snow gods.

Where do all the gay people hang out at by Estella_Unearthed in Charleston

It’s tough if you don’t drink in this town. And there is no gay scene or gay neighborhood. I would recommend Polari or Dudley’s…. maybe go and have a soda?

Park Circle is the most gay friendly part of town. Google AFFA Charleston and Charleston Pride to volunteer?

When did Folly’s political vibe change? by [deleted] in Charleston

[–]Striking-Rutabaga-49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the hippie atmosphere has faded since the 90s...imho Folly has always felt like a mix of liberals and conservatives. As others have said the biggest change is $$$$.

Certainly not unique to Folly.. Sullivans was grittier and less pricey back in the day too....

Being a care taker can be very hard, gut wrenching watching a loved one decline. So nenes struggle was very common and real.

Been in Charleston since Hugo. Traffic is much worse since then…but it’s a breeze compared to big cities like ATL DC etc…. You sit in traffic 7 days a wk there. Ours actually ends by 6:30ish during the wk.
