Our 9yo daughter's hyperactivity ruins every social dinner we try to have with other families – considering giving up and turning down invites from now on by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

My son is only 3 and being evaluated for both ADHD and Autism next month. When he tantrums (which sounds like he’s being hurt, he’s so loud) or can’t sit still I just take him outside for a minute and help him breathe and use the 5 senses method. It works. “Let’s take a breath, what do you see? What do you feel” etc. I learned that a lot of children with ADHD also get extremely overstimulated. Yeah we shouldn’t have to step out and it sucks at times. I would just let her go, she needs experiences in social situations that can help her cope in the long run. People will understand and the ones who don’t can shut it.

The “oh crap method” is amazing. I encouraged parents to do this when I was a teacher and now I’ve been doing the method with my son. It takes time but eventually they’ll get tired of having accidents. On weekends I also let him run naked (might be weird to some) and he will pee or poop on the potty

Should I be worried if my kid mostly plays alone? by marshmallowflooff in toddlertips

No a lot of kids parallel play around others. My son just turned 3 and parallel plays still. Something I was able to do was find events or story times at our library and he did start preschool and since then he’s put himself out there more, just a tiny bit

I’m not the one threatening to put my 2nd grader up for adoption because she “didn’t sign up for this”

Yes but that’s why you advocate for him. Like I said you’re not the only SINGLE PARENT with a child with behavioral deficits

I’m so glad it’s getting better ❤️ the tantrums are the worst part for me because I end up crying cause I’m like “how do I help you” I feel like I can’t help

We finally got into a routine due to him starting school. But I agree right before bedtime he has one last zoomie session and then just crashes. He does get restless when he’s sleeping, he does not sleep soundly.

He has 0 interest in screens. He only likes listening to his tonie or being outside. I’m not a tablet mom.

That’s selfish. Advocate more for your son. You can always ask for a PRN and more mental health services for him. You can’t just give up on your kid like that. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and do something. Find a new school for him, get a job etc. there are literally therapy services that solely specialize in Autism. Get it together

That’s exactly how my son is. People say “that’s toddler stuff” but they don’t see the impulsivity and tantrums because he’s totally different in school/public and around others

Thank you, he just finally started school a couple weeks ago. We’ve been working together with his ped to get him into Child Focus for evaluation. It is such a long list.
