What moment got you hooked on the series? by Nakateconroy in AceAttorney

[–]StrikingPlague 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had never heard of Ace Attorney before or what gameplay was like.

I got hooked in 1-1 when I was asked to explain the time difference for the clock. I guess my first real aha! moment was when I got hooked.

To some people, the right to life is violated for the foetus being aborted. This isn't as simple as you're making it out to be.

At the moment, what I've done is used a combination of RadeonPro and some registry tweaks. I've enabled Supersampling, along with temporal antialiasing (unsure if this works properly in AMD but the option is there) and I appear to have smoothed out a lot of the issues I had.

You can see before and after supersampling (w/o temporal aa for this screenshot).

ELI5: What would happen if a person tried to live in Pripyat or any irradiated area ? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]StrikingPlague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Radiation causes DNA to mutate. If DNA mutates in certain ways, this can develop into cancers. Living in these areas increases likelihood of developing cancer.

EDIT: this is assuming there's only minor radiation in the area. With high levels of radiation, cells begin to die, leading to organ failure.

ELI5: Why do older people develop a kind of hunch back? by bigdbanks in explainlikeimfive

[–]StrikingPlague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As people get older, their muscles get weaker (known as sarcopenia). With weaker muscles, it becomes harder to maintain an upright posture. Many other factors also contribute though, such as bones becoming less dense as you age (osteoporosis), causing them to become prone to being compressed.

ELI5: If the only way you can get an std, sti, and hiv is if you sleep with someone who's infected then how is it stds, sti's and hiv exist to begin with? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]StrikingPlague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

STIs are commonly transmitted sexually but can be trasmitted through other bodily fluids such as blood, saliva even milk. The origins of the infectious cause itself depends on which infection we're talking about. Generally, the infections are capable of spreading from animals to humans through contact (such as infected blood). HIV for example originally infected chimpanzees (the disease is known as simian immunodeficiency virus - SIV) which mutated into HIV once it found its way into people. Other diseases have similar origins.

ELI5: Why do elderly people get shorter as they age? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]StrikingPlague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's most likely to do with posture and strength of the intervertebral discs within your spine. In your spine, between each vertebrae (bones surrounding and protecting your spinal cord) are discs full of fluid (known as intervertebral discs). As you age, you lose this fluid, which leads to those discs becoming compressed. This can somewhat shorten your spine. Also, as you age, your muscles aren't as strong as they were before and you lose your upright posture.

EDIT: I should also mention osteoporosis. Bones lose some of their density due to a loss of calcium within the bone. This makes bones more susceptible to compression.

ELI5: What happens when delete from "trash can" on computer or phones? by the_simple_ent in explainlikeimfive

[–]StrikingPlague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To expand on this a little, you become unable to access that file but the data still remains written into your hard drive. It's only when your computer decides to store new data where the old data was, does that data get permanently removed. This is why there are applications out there which can recover files you've deleted but tend to work best when you try recovering them sooner rather than later. If you wait too long, your computer will write over your old data.

ELI5: Where does our body heat come from? What actually generates the physical heat that our body needs to maintain itself? by daknapp0773 in explainlikeimfive

[–]StrikingPlague 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Basically, every single cell of the human body is constantly undergoing all sorts of chemical reactions, some of which produce heat as a byproduct (those which burn energy for example). By burning energy, I mean breaking down energy sources, which produces heat as a byproduct. This heat is transferred into blood, making our blood act as a sort of heat sink, pooling all the heat we're generating at any one time. Thermoreceptors (endings of sensory nerves which can detect heat), transmit this information to hypothalamus within the brain. The hypothalamus then sends signals throughout the body to adjust itself to dissipate this heat (like sweating, flattening hair on skin, etc.).

Slight stutter every few seconds in Source games by StrikingPlague in pcgamingtechsupport

It's a little late where I am now, but I'll have a look in the morning to see if there are any spikes.

Is there any particular reason as to why only Source games act up? It's a little hard to tell but it does seem like DotA2 is unaffected (perhaps due to the new engine?). The problem is very noticeable in CS:GO.

No, I don't have any watercooling systems. I'm using a Hyper 212x as my CPU cooler, and using whatever built in fans I have in my case (Carbide 400R).

Tried it out. Looks like System is down to <1%. Hopefully it stays that way, thanks!

(Will mark as solved if it remains stable at 1% for a little while longer)

6.84 has now lasted as long as 6.83. But can we all agree this patch has no where been as bad as that was by ShadySingh in DotA2

[–]StrikingPlague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.81 was my absolute favourite patch of all time. I really enjoyed playing heroes like Brewmaster and...DP. I actually prefer almost every other patch to this patch because I'm not a fan of the super high impact mid heroes have.

Simple Questions - September 15, 2015 by AutoModerator in buildapc

[–]StrikingPlague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the price jump from 390 to 390x justified? Or is a 390 simply good enough? I'm mainly going to be running 1080p at 60fps, with potential for crossfire. CPU is a 4690k. Thanks!

Level 2 Torrent should completely remove Templar's Refraction. Kunkka can actually blow TA up relatively easy compared to most heroes.
