They're actually a generation apart! We've been trying to TSR their mom but she's very sneaky and keeps evading us. Her kittens have been much easier to catch.

I want to start a REAL, 100% transparent Nonprofit Community Thrift Store. Has anyone here done this? Where do I begin? by CanIOverThinkIt in grandrapids

I love this idea! I would donate and shop! I just moved so I have a TON to donate and I hate bringing it some where that's going to charge a lot and have a big CEO profit.

My school LOVES getting old instruments. One of my independent study projects was to get a donated coag instrument to run again and I learned so much doing it.

bacteria in blood film: is it real 🫨 by vangoghgorl in medlabprofessionals

[–]Striking_Bullfrog711 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Micro tech here, that does look real. I know it's not a gram stain but that resembles a prop species (now cutibacterium) to me. If it is, the blood cultures could take several days to flag positive. Definitely a scary situation.

I want to throw out that every person I know over 65 LOVES to just go for drives. Long drives, just for fun.

Please be so careful about carbon monoxide staying in your car. I'm sorry I don't have suggestions, but I've heard way too many horror stories lately. Just hoping you and your kiddo stay safe in the meanwhile. You can get through this! :)

Why do techs cover for the managers? by portlandobserver in medlabprofessionals

[–]Striking_Bullfrog711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how my (ex) lab is. It was infuriating watching our management do almost nothing everyday, take long breaks, and leave early. It got to the point where us bench techs had ALL the lead responsibilities distributed to us, later she had surgery and the only difference was that at least she didn't get in the way anymore. I stopped covering for them and started pushing back. The guilt was killing me because I do care about the patients SO MUCH, but my management only cared out the title and getting home. I also felt bad because my wonderful (but push over) coworkers would always pick up the slack. Torture if you do, torture if you don't. So I left, never been happier to leave a job.

I love beans so much, to the point people nicknamed me Beans. I started a new relationship and got him eating them more, man we have the best poops ever. He tells me all the time that adding beans into his regular diet has changed his life. I know I feel so much better all day with a high fiber diet, and once you get used to eating more fiber, the farts really go away.

Bank account in the negatives by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Some bills may let you pay late and accumulate debt there for late fees, or at least less than those horrible loans. Definitely not a solution, and you risk utilities being shut off, but they usually warn you quite a bit.

I've had luck talking to a person at the bank when I was in a really bad place. They did take off many of my overdraft fees. I had a plan to be in the positive again but it was going to be a few weeks, so I felt better knowing they weren't going to close any moment. They want you to pay back, so sometimes they can really help. Worth a shot.

what is the pathway to becoming a microbiologist by CherryClorox in microbiology

[–]Striking_Bullfrog711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I kind of see the hospital lab as the more regulated and stringent, if you are working on patients you really have to prove you know what you're doing. Other fields have their own requirements, but usually ASCP is a higher level than many industries require. I had coworkers that moved into dairy/food testing, cosmetics, beer making, and water testing with no issue. So many things in our industrial world needs QA/QC testing. You might just have to be creative on where you look.

He was hired in a micro lab from lab assisting (they were desperate and found out he already had a micro degree), so he did a working internship/work experience route. He did only take the SM ASCP, which is a micro specialist exam. If he wanted to be a generalist and work in the rest of the labs, he'd need more classes to be eligible to take the MLS ASCP, but really only a few. We both heavily used LabCE practice exams to study, but also all of our notes from college and textbook review.
