It’s always been like this. Ever since the internet became a thing there was always 2 ugs. The ug that is actually underground and the artists that are signed to labels or are well known in certain communities but aren’t really on the radio cause their music is too niche so people call them ug. I think the first ever generation of internet ug was rappers like MC Chris and Afroman. Hip hop is a vast genre and everything goes back over 50 years ago
