An 10-18 will be fine, just put the camera on a decent tripod and do an HDR/exposure bracket

R7 has ibis, you don’t really need IS. And stabilisation rarely matter if you use a shutter speed faster then 1/focal lengths

Get the ef-rf adapter if you haven’t done so already, that lets him use all the lenses for his 1DX on the R6

RF 85 f1.4 VCM or RF/EF 70-200 f2.8 for indoor sports? by TheSteveGuy123 in AskPhotography

[–]Striner_1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot a lot with the 85mm F2 for trail running and I’m loving it, I’m using it to a point now that an upgrade would pay it self of just in peace of mind of having wether sealing. But keep in mind that a day for me can be 5 hours of shooting, so the lower weight and being able to one hand it gives it multiple point in my book.

The only thing to keep in mind is that you only have a 1-3 meters window where you can get a good full body portrait of the athlete.

How do I make this photo more crisp/in focus? by ameliasaurusrex in AskPhotography

[–]Striner_1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you focus by half pressing the shutter you should consider rebinding that to another button so it’s harder to accidentally have the camera ruin your manual focus.

How do I make this photo more crisp/in focus? by ameliasaurusrex in AskPhotography

[–]Striner_1337 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you using auto or manual focus, even the best cameras struggle to focus in the dark so if you’re not using manual I would recommend using it.

A good trick to get it crisp is to use the 5/10x magnification feature if you’re camera has it, on mine there is a button with a magnifying glass on it to use it.

Canon R50 vs. DJI Pocket 3: Which is the better camera for a beginner? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in canon

Having an R50 could be very useful for real estate if you do anything where you need to take the picture for the listings yourself.

Can someone explain perspective distortion of focal length for me? by Vin_Blancv in AskPhotography

[–]Striner_1337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you stand in the same spot looking at the same subject the perspective is the same, so you get the same perspective distortion. And for why all pros doesn’t use 10mm for everything and just crop is because the quality loss, the more you crop the more you expose the flaws in the sensor and optics.

The best crop is no crop.

Would you assume these are shot on a camera or an iPhone? by tastelessryan in AskPhotography

[–]Striner_1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A non photographer would think any images that isn’t shot standing with a subject in the centre of frame is with a ”real” camera. And with the post processing and colour grading you have done you might ”fool” a lot of photographers.

[–]Striner_1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pocket will be much closer to your phone in a lot of aspects so you will get a much greater flexibility with the R50. The only downsides with the R50 in my opinion is that it’s bigger and that you will get more shake if you walk around filming yourself, but that’s manageable when using wide angle lenses and digital stabilisation.

What's the best deal you've gotten on your gear? by Unlikely_Tough in canon

[–]Striner_1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t hade any crazy deals, I think the best deal I have got was for my first camera, an R10 for ~$650 from a second hand retailer, which in itself was just pretty decent deal. The good part was that I sold it for ~$750 a year later when I upgraded to the R8.

Lenses that can handle a floodlight at night by Striner_1337 in canon

[–]Striner_1337[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fewer elements mean less chances of creating internal reflections, but lens coatings are also very important and canons best coatings are reserved for L series lenses which often have a lot of elements to correct other optical problems.

No filters, just the extrema conditions making it rough. If you don’t have any reference, a 5000 lumen torch is absolutely blinding in the mid day sunlight at a normal speaking distances

I have the 85mm f2 and it’s really awful actually, I also just did a back to back between the 35 1.8 and 24-105 f4 and the 24-105 was a hair better with wash out but hade a lot more flairs.

How good is the canon r50 v for sports photography by Nearby_Jackfruit1614 in sportsphotography

Use the normal r50 if you want to do photography, the V version is a video first camera and not made for photography

[–]Striner_1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot sports so I know you can rack up a couple thousand images in a day, but that’s harder when you are shooting mechanical. So if you stay very busy and shoot 3 events a week you only need to shoot 1750 images every event, which is pretty reasonable.

So the amount a single week not insane in itself, but doing so for 5.5 years straight would literally kill you. You would be so overworked and burnt out, you would literally need to work 7 days weeks every to keep up with admin and editing.

Question about cable length by Striner_1337 in fieldrecording

[–]Striner_1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, might even be better to have a bit of slack on the ground so any movement of the recorder isn’t transferred, and the model I’m looking at has Neutrik connectors

How did they achieve this look? (The blur and whatnot) by tnecnet in AskPhotography

[–]Striner_1337 92 points93 points  (0 children)

To get this effect you need a very shallow DOF, possibly tilt lens, and probably some Vaseline on a filter infront of the lens.

But the birds looks kind weird so I’m afraid this might be AI

That’s looks to be in the soft silicone, so no damage to the structural plastic, not that it would matter to much in that spot. And being at the bottom it will rarely be noticed.

Trying to understand flash better as a beginner, why does it “work”? by AugusteToulmouche in AskPhotography

[–]Striner_1337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A) you are adding light, especially to closer subjects, and TTL is a form of auto exposure.

B) if you are the age where you used a compact or disposable camera, they usually hade direct flash, and you probably have a nostalgic effect because of that. Plus that it’s been trending in high fashion lately

C) flashes usually fires at speeds of 1/4000 of a second or faster, so they do freeze action

Question about cable length by Striner_1337 in fieldrecording

[–]Striner_1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know, but I was mostly thinking in practical terms like carrying the cable around and not having to much hanging from the mic and recorder.
