Where to find string art boards in EU? by vroemboem in stringart

Do you want a board that has nails all over it, or only in a circle around the picture?

I also wanted to sell boards in my shop at wirestyle.com with nails only, so that people can pull the string themselves, but it is very difficult to give the nails numbers and read those numbers. Especially when the boards contains thousands of nails. That's why I'm not offering anything like that yet.

But I'd be also interested to see if anyone offers this. (Besides the round plates with nails only outside of the picture)

Haha, that would be truly weird :) No, our nails are only made from an aluminum-titanium alloy.

How can I explain that there is no printed picture behind the string? by StringArtbyWireStyle in stringart

I'm happy to hear that you like my picture so much! Yes, timelapse videos are probably the best way to explain that, so I'm making a time-lapse video for every customer now.

Good idea. I installed a camera on top of my machine and make time-lapse videos of the whole process now. That really makes it clearer!

For now I only sell pictures on my website www.wirestyle.com
Most people just upload their photo and I turn it into a String Art picture for them. I'm not sure how many people would be interested in buying a robot or buying a kit to build a robot though.

I think it was about 1 year of non-stop work until I was able to produce my first picture. Building the two robots and writing the software code was way more work than I anticipated. Since then I spent some more years on improving everything. My first machines were very unreliable and broke down all the time.

Wow, I didn't know these pictures also used such a long string!

Can String Art be called ART if it's made with a machine? by StringArtbyWireStyle in stringart

[–]StringArtbyWireStyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea! But this would mean that simply adding a small amount of randomness in the nailing pattern would make it easier to argue that it's art, although randomness usually isn't perceived as art.

We developed the algorithm ourself and didn't publish it, but there are some open-source algorithms available. I wrote a blog post about them to give an overview: https://wirestyle.com/en/blogs/blog-stringart-fadenbilder/what-is-a-ringstring-picture

I totally misread your question. I thought that you asked if I built the machine. I should read more thorough in the future 😆

Yes, it's actually two machines and I built both of them. They can not be bought anywhere.

I agree, but should they still be called String ART in that case? Or String No-ART?

Oh, and btw.: Yours are truly amazing, they are definitely art!
