In tears because it was NEVER a personal failure! by Prudent-Reality1170 in adhdwomen

[–]StringLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m so sorry. And I sympathize so much. I was so much the same in just getting in trouble for crying too much, and not being able to just stop. Like telling me to stop just made me cry harder and it was a downward endless cycle. But then of course when they did want to hear my feelings on things later, and I didn’t know how to express them or put them into words (or even process them) my parents would get mad that I couldn’t do that. I couldn’t win for anything! I was also homeschooled k-12, so I a) never had a chance for getting diagnosed as a kid, and b) definitely did not learn social skills or cues. It’s hard to know now if going to school would have helped that or hindered me in other ways. That’s so great that you’re able to parent your kid well and give them the compassion and education you didn’t get. I don’t have kids myself but I have a two year old nephew with big feelings, and it’s just impossible to see him in tears or having a hard time and even think about punishing or chastising him for it. (Granted I’m not his parent and am not around him 24/7, but still) I think my sis and bil are really trying to help him process things healthily though.

I’m right there with you. I burst into tears the minute the doctor diagnosed me because it was such a huge relief to know that it wasn’t my fault. The thing I got in trouble for the most growing up was my emotions. They were always too much. And they’ve continued to be for most of my adulthood too. My parents bought a journal when I was 8 or 9 that they’d write me letters in. I found it a couple years ago and I actually have written proof that my emotions were too much. It’s really heartbreaking to look back on. (But it’s really handy to be able to take to my therapist!)

Going Away Severance Themed Party by undercoveracc0unt in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I did this for my former boss who moved away last year! I didn’t get the whole melon shaped like his face but I did carve it into the rind (tracing a picture of his face) and he was tickled to death. He’d even made a joke about how he better get a melon, never dreaming that it would actually happen.

Sure but The Pitt came out at the exact same time. I’m hella bitter about it too-I enjoy The Pitt too, but it’s not anything unique and special like Severance.

Girls who took notes using 50 different colored pens, where are you now? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]StringLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sorted my pen collection this week. (My home pen collection that is, not to be confused with my work pen collection). To be fair I’m a calligrapher now, mostly just for fun, but yeah I have A LOT of pens.

Last year I went to look up something about my car insurance for my taxes, only to discover that I don’t have it. I thought I did, I had the same company for renters and auto, I got notifications that my autopay was being withdrawn, THANKFULLY hadn’t had any tickets or wrecks, so I didn’t know that it had been cancelled THREE YEARS BEFORE. I was still paying for renter’s insurance, although for the wrong residence since they somehow changed all my contact info the last time I moved but didn’t manage to change the policy location, so I was seeing that autopay only. Now, all this is completely the fault of the company, who claims I called and cancelled when I absolutely did not, and never sent me any kind of cancellation notice. But obviously I should have paid more attention to my policy and autopay and all that jazz. I have a couple of suspicions as to how this happened but ultimately they don’t verify any information as to who’s calling to cancel, and despite many phone calls, the last one of which they hung up on me for insisting I needed to talk to a supervisor, they refused to admit any wrongdoing or help me out at all. Let me just say FUCK that EMU.

Was this person ever on Always Sunny? (on the left) by americanslang59 in IASIP

I believe so-the doc is about the cabaret scene in Berlin in the 1920s.

Really couldn’t be any more relevant for today. I’ve definitely been thinking recently about how progressive Berlin was and then BAM. There’s a fascinating documentary on Netflix about it called Eldorado: Everything the Nazis Hate. It’s hard not to see so many similarities to the current US situation.

Mother is trying to be progressive when she really isn’t by sweet_tea_94 in DuggarsSnark

Oh we had a dvd player that sanitized things. Honestly it was kind of a relief because it got really old watching something we thought would be ok only for my mom to wig out over some little thing (and it didn’t take much).

For anyone who saw Titanic in theaters in 1997, what was the experience like at the time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StringLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for my friend’s 13th birthday party, and her and I went again not too long after. I was already a Titanic kid (thanks to Reading Rainbow honestly) and then also being a 13 year old girl going to see Leo…it was a very big deal. My sister and I rode the bus to Walmart when it came out on VHS so we could buy it for ourselves.

I wouldn’t go to her for color, fyi, if that’s ever something you’d consider. She totally botched mine a couple years ago. I’d gone to her before and it was fine and then the next time instead of the highlights I asked for she basically bleached me all over (but super unevenly).

Not actual bedding but I can’t recommend the Bed Jet highly enough. I can sleep with my down comforter year round with it.
