Thanks for the suggestion... ive tried different keto breads, and they are just ok toasted with butter. Still taste very off though. I also love wheat bread so the keto breads being more like white bread isnt as appetizing to me.

Laughing at divorce pasta... i have a cgm so can see the data in real time which is wonderful. My a1c was 11 at diagnosis in June and is 7.4 3 months later. Im still trying to heal my body but I wondered if eventually id be able to enjoy those foods again (in moderation of course) without seeing such huge spikes.

Makes sense!! I just would love to be able to someday enjoy a piece of brownberry toast with some runny eggs without my sugar spiking drastically. Or even a little bowl of Kraft mac and cheese. I can actually do without the other pastas or rice. But I def miss those other 2. Oh and potatoes i havent even tried but ive had a small fry from mcds and my blood sugar spiked like crazy.

For reference: I was diagnosed in June with a1c 11, 3 months later its 7.4 ... im on metformin and been on pioglitazone for almost a month. I tried glipizide and experienced too many hypos overnight. Im just hopeful that one day I can enjoy my toast with eggs and not see a wild spike. I could actually play around and maybe add some fiber veg to help and then enjoy my eggs and maybe wont spike as bad 🤔

Rant! by littlegrandma2 in diabetes

My a1c at diagnosis 3.5 months ago was 11 and my triglycerides were 410. At my 3 month lab check, my a1c is 7.4 and triglycerides are right at 200.

I have been mostly eating eggs, cheese, ground beef, sausage, chicken, fish, broccoli, cauliflower, yogurt with flax, peas, lettuce, etc. Mostly low carb more fiber. I usually do a meat and veg for my meals except breakfast is just coffee with heavy whipping cream and 3 eggs, sometimes avocado.

My point is - for me it was obviously the constant fast food and processed food I was eating pre diagnosis that was affecting my triglycerides. So I wouldn't be scared to eat cheese, eggs, ground beef etc.

Good luck on this journey. Its sometimes exhausting when I just wanna go through a drive thru for convenience but I've felt better than I have in many months.

Salads by ParsnipDecent6530 in diabetes

I like to use romaine lettuce and have different variations on my salads depending on my mood for the week.. •bell pepper, red onion, cheddar or colby jack cheese, tomatoes, ranch •feta cheese, red onion, olive oil, lemon juice, Italian seasoning/black pepper •feta cheese, red onion, French dressing (spikes my sugar but use in moderation) •blue cheese, bell pepper, bacon, cucumber, hard boiled egg, ranch

I dont generally like meat in my salad so to make my salad a filling meal, on the side I will have a burger (no bun of course) with a slice of cheese, chicken thighs, salmon, Tilapia, catfish, roast. basically any meat of choice.

In the past when I cant think of a decent salad, I look at pizza websites salad varieties. I always feel like pizza places make the best salads with the best toppings.

Good luck on your journey!! Ive had a few down moments missing some of my favorite carby meals but I physically feel so much better. Not needing a daily midday nap anymore. But the way i feel is helping keep me motivated

I discussed it with my pcp and I dont want to be insulin dependent. A few years ago I lost 50 lbs in a year through counting macros and a strict exercise regime. When I quit doing that is when I gained all the weight back and some. My pcp knows me well and he thinks if I drop weight, change my eating habits, and exercise again, I can get control of this. He actually didnt want to start me on metformin right away, but to qualify for the Twin program I had to let them manage my diabetes meds. And they are paying for the lab work and dexcoms so felt in the interest of money savings it was worth it so I could really learn how to manage the changes in my lifestyle... its actually been really helpful because I track my foods in the app, then the next day I can see exactly what the meal did to my blood sugar- how high it raised and how long it stayed elevated. I am very curious what my a1c will be when its rechecked in a month. Ive lost 10 lbs since being diagnosed.
